Didn't vote for any of the above at the poll.

I can go and bring and overwhelming bit of evidence in the form of links for each product mentioned above.

And that has to do with the actual owners.

All I have to do is go to two forums and bring in the truck load of info from the two sites.

I own Taurus a myriad of Taurus products and know a lot of the Hi-point owners as well.

Same can be said for the Charter Arms owners as well. The caveat is that these are Charter Arms owners who have bought them, use them, and still have them. None are Charco products at all.

My vote goes for all three companies.

If people want to be gun snobs, "anointed ones", or such then so be it. Looking down on others who use these products is a dis-service and disrespectful of the owners and users.

This is being mentioned because I've seen this kind of thing happen all to often. That includes those "anointed ones" who claim that their word only matters and all others are irrelevant. No kidding. Been here at this forum when it happened.

The actual owners and their use of the product were considered irrelevant and were to be disregarded totally.

I am not saying anyone here has done that up to know. In no way. Just that these three companies put out decent products that get the job done and do it well.

If these companies were not doing something right they would not be in business. We vote with our wallets and will not bet our lives and those who are important to us to sub-par guns. It isn't in the cards.

Good Lord! Your poll is like choosing between Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer or Diane Feinstein!

There are plenty of other, more preferable choices that are available for under $200.00, and certainly better ones available at less than the price of a new Taurus.

Obviously you missed the key point there..
Yeah, but only because the goal post apparently moved on me... Uh, actually... you missed mine, or shall I say; my point to you is similar to your point to him.
What defines quality? Yeah, your gun is good enough for piddling around, but when it comes to serious work? Quality isn't an absolute, or maybe it's the reason I keep buying all these "crappy" pistols, or maybe it's because I have too many fingers, or maybe they just aren't failing me hard enough fast enough.

I think of all these, Taurus is the one company that continues to show marked improvement. I had no troubles with my 2008-09 model Millennium Pro, and the 709 slim looks even better in fit and finish. I really think that Taurus's reputation is worse than its products. They're certainly a cut above Hi-Point, I know cause I've had both. No one is going to say Taurus is as good as Glock or S&W or whatever, but they are the best low-price alternative.

If buying a pistol for strictly home defense it is best to go with soemthing well made and extremely reliable. Cheap whould not be a consideration. I will probably be a once in a lifetime purchase and should not be taken lightly. I also believe that there is no reason to spend $1200-1500 on a high end 1911. I would probably recommend a ruger, taurus, or rossi revolver to someone that may not be all that familiar with handling semi auto pistols.

I still must ask this question: How much is your life worth?

It doesn't matter how much you think your life is worth. You can't spend what you don't have. Sorry.

Save up you say? Then you have NOTHING while you're saving. How much good will that stash of money you're saving, do you when the gang of dopped up zombies comes kicking down the door?

Personally I'm for getting something I can afford NOW, and saving up for something better NEXT time.

Taurus's design is definitely better.
Their fit and finish is generally better(it seems there are a few periods where it really lacked)
I don't think their QC is better. I don't hear many stories at all about NIB HiPoints not working.

Taurus is the leading handgun maker in the world, which is why you hear so many horror stories.Only Remington , when you include rifles makes more. I have a HP 995 carbine, dressed in a ATI stock that is by far the best 9mm carbine for the money.I also have a Taurus PT 24/7 Pro Ds in 9 mm, once the the shipping gunk is removed, it is an excelllent pistol. I had to clean mine three times before I went to the range. The s/a trigger is a short crisp 3 lbs, although take-up is long.POA is right on the money on mine.It has all the other bells and whistles, decocking safety, loaded chamber indicator and striker engaged indicator.Great for home defense, a little large for CC, but I have carried larger.Never owned a Charter but they are nice looking, whereas the HP pistols are flat out ugly, but seem to go bang every time you pull the trigger.I also have a Keltec P11, cheaper than a Sigma, but even it has a better trigger.I have a SAA clone with a trigger job, 2.5 lbs, can hit six of six soda cans at 10 yds, from the hip, in less than 5 seconds, fun for showing off! I'm not a Bob Munden, but fast enough to impress most.Bob can hit hit four in less than a second, If you ever get the chance to see him, do it, although he is like me oetting old!Semi -retired...

I'd be very interested to see your sources for that claim.

Taurus Revolver - I don't have any problem with Taurus Revolvers for self defense - just with Taurus' Beretta knock-offs.

Hi-point (probably a 9mm) even though they are butt-ugly. But I'd at least investigate a Charter Arms .44 Special bulldog (I'm not sure if they're making those again.)

You can't spend what you don't have.

thats why credit cards, blood plasma banks, and organ farming is to popular!

well... lets see

two of the 3 taurus i've have in my hand broke before i got to shoot them

i cant even bring myself to think about carring a gun that i bought just to be a target -even if they seem to function just fine -its a mental block

i'd have to go with a charter arms revolver because in the least if you do get a charter arms you can get the pink lady and throw down some serious physiological warfare...

BG: *points gun at the old lady* "give me your money"
ME: ok whip out the Pink Lady i have, inside the waistband holster right above my wallet, point it at his head
BG: sees the flash from a pink gun then has to spend eternity explaining to the devil how he got shot by a pink gun

all in fun, but me id go charter arms

My life is worth more than "Cheap" but if I was on a budget and those 3 were all I had to pick from I would choose a Charter Arms Bulldog in 44 spl. The only down side of that choice would be price of ammo if you are not a reloader.

A Taurus 92 would be my 2nd choice.

Highpoints are just a little clunky for me and their safety leaves a lot to be desired.
