Hi-point Handguns

Well after reading most of the so called "comments "on these handguns, I went out and purchased the .40 sw for myself and now after running over 1300 rnds through her I can truthfully say I am pleased with my purchase. Using standard ball ammo FMJ and JHP Winchester,S&B,PMC I have had 2 malfunctions but my defense instructor blamed them both on me and a weak rist for my recovery backup shot.
I have attended 3 defense shooting schools 2 in Ill. and 1 in MI. and after working with this .40 I can say that it will be my standard carry with my CCW using a strong side FBI cant slide holster. Being 6'2" and 255 lbs with a large chest, concellment wont be a problem.
Going thru the classes and firing under duress(or as much duress you can receive in this type of class) I was very pleased with my backup shots and recovery shots not to mention my hot reload times in action.
I will be taking more combat and tactical classes in the future and will not have any problem matching my gun and shooting against anyone out there with a standard carry non hyped handgun shooting with you target to target.
You can say what you want but I am a Hi-Point buyer and damned proad of it. Also went a bought the 9mm compensator for fun. Also a nice piece.
I guess I just like them boxy so called ugly guns.
I'll be reporting back with everyone now and then about the Hi-Points.
I love to go shooting and watch some of these people crack about my handgun selection and watch them loose a round on the ground from a malfunction or cant drop the magizine fast enough from the handgun becouse of all the fancy gadgets on their guns.
Well shoot a lot and stay safe
Tony

If I have said once I have said it a thousand times:

Your life, your dime, your choice.

Good luck to you, stay safe, have fun.

If you're happy with them and they prove to be all that you've hoped for, more power to you! That's all that matters, right?

As for me, I simply cannot get past their anti-aesthetics issue. :barf:

Congrats on your purchase and doing do well with it! Although it personally wouldn't be my selection, my opinion doesn't matter two beans worth. So long as you are happy.

Now see I wouldn't get caught dead with a box square butt ugly pistol....hmmm..wait, I carry Glock. I take that back!:D

Good Shooting

Glad to see another convert who has actually held and fired a Hi-Point! These are without a doubt the best currently manufactured handguns in their price point and even a ways above.I decided this morning to bring in a compact 9mm to go along with the FEG i'm bringing in.Borrow a Hi-Point-shoot it-and then make sure you have the money to get your own. You'll want one!

Whats interesting is that even though some people think Hi-Points are ugly, whenever i go to the range with my compensated 9mm someone always asks to see it and walks away thinking its the coolest handgun they've ever seen!

The hi-point I shot gave POS around the universe a bad name...I wouldn't recommend them to anyone but it comes down to what you like.

I held the 45 version a couple days ago at the gun shop. That thing must weigh 10 pounds..

Ya lays ya money down and ya takes ya chances.

hi-point grips

I did feel comfortable with the hi-point JC40 and the 9mm Comp being they are large guns but the grip is no larger than the glocks and the width of the slide total compared to the larger clock is only .031 which in laymans terms for you non engineers would be 31 thousands of an inch.
But I did find to be very positive of the handling was when I put the Hogue Handall slip-on grips on both pistols.
My groupings improved and my sight control to 2nd shot also improved. Very nice for only $10.00.
I have found several reputable leather companys that will fit my .40 for a custom leather IWB and a leather beltslide for only $53.00 either with or without the retention strap.
At the moment i have a Mikes belt slide with FBI cant i carry on strong side and am very pleased with that.
Hi-point help me with the names of some leather holster makers that do work on guns you send them and for very resonable prices.

Tony,
Are Hi-Points still single action?? If so, can you carry it cocked and locked?? Way back when, my 9mm compact was single action. I couldn't bring myself to carry it with a round in the tube, which rendered it useless as a defensive pistol!!! It was a jam-o-matic anyway. I buried it at some undisclosed location in the southwestern Sonoran desert!!!!! :barf:

whenever i go to the range with my compensated 9mm someone always asks to see it and walks away thinking its the coolest handgun they've ever seen!

These same folks also have a velvet Elvis painting in their living room along with wood paneling and deep pile shag carpeting.

While it its true that a bag of Ernest & Gallo wine will get you drunk in the same manner that a good vintage Rothschild will, I still won't buy wine by the bag because somebody with little taste said it was good.:barf:

Ouch! I have to say to each their own. If it shoots the way you
want it too, what more can you ask for? My guns are all quality
firearms...in ANYONES opinion. I didnt buy them to keep up with
Blades for christsakes. The reality is guns are expensive. I got
all of my guns at below cost after looking for a while and getting
lucky. Not everyone can afford to buy Kimbers, Sigs bla bla bla.
I bought what I researched first, tried out and liked the best.

I have never shot a hi point, I have heard all of the same lack of quality issues (like jennings, lorcin etc) that the rest of the world
has. Seems to me hi point could make a good gun...I have heard some pretty dissapointing things on this forum about Kimbers, glocks, sigs etc....so I guess you take your chances either way.

Shoot well..

If I had a Hi-Point, I'd shoot it. The biggest downside that I see to the guns is a low resale value. But since you didn't pay much for it to start with a low resale value is no big deal.

Enjoy-

I have a hi-point 9mm compact and a 9mm carbine. Neither has failed to fire or function with thousands of rounds through each. I'm not going to say that they are the best firearms made, but mine go bang every time. At defensive pistol distances I can keep all the rounds in the black on an NRA target.

The compact 9mm is the gun that got me into the shooting sports, so there is a place in my heart for them. Now I can't get enough! I have several 1911s a BHP, and a few rifles.

Hi-Point Cocked and Locked

Yes the Hi-Point is a single action and yes lock and cocked is how I carry it also.
The big disappointment for me on my .40 only is I wish it was slide lock open when chamber empty. Oh well for $129.95 what can you exspect. Of course my 9mm Hi-Point does that, I think kinda handy when your doing hot moving reloads, one less thing to rack open and closed.
I just shot 500 rnds of UMC fhp ammo thru it this weekend(bought the stuff from Walmart for $8.55 per 50) and I was suprised she ate it right up with no problems.
Another cheep target ammo....hmmmm.
TropicalZ have you heard anything yet about anyone doing aftermarket mags for our girls yet, I havent but am still looking

Fhp? A "full hollow point"? I want some! :D

A friend of mine in Florida has a Hi-point in .380acp and claims after 500 or so rounds of S&B hardball, he has yet to see a malfunction.
I haven't heard any first-hand stories of malfunctioning Hi-points, so... although they are (to me, anyways) uglier than homemade sin, if you're happy with one, there's nothing wrong with them.

I'm curious though, if the .45acp models are straight blow-back, do they come with an optional crossbow-like foot stirrup? :p

Tony, why don't you report back with your hipoint after at least 20,000 rounds. And any semi auto should lock back on empty, for 129.95 or 1295.95.... I have been shooting handguns for over 30 years, and you know what Cooper and Elmer said way back when, "A good handgun costs at least a weeks salary! Anything less would be better spent on strong drink"
