Correct. Over half the victims in the VA Tech shooting were 21 or over.At any college or university these days, there are always a few 'non-traditional' students in every class. They are typically older, married people who are going back to school after a career in the military or after raising children. Professors, faculty and staff will also be older. The problem is that "No CCW on campus" rules and laws don't exempt anyone from the ban.
There's nothing about having a weapon that obligates you to pull it out. If one wanted to, he could go so far as to allow himself to be murdered without unholstering his firearm. So I can attest that a weapon is not always the best thing to have around.
But there are certainly circumstances when it's obviously the right decision to draw--and in those circumstances, a person's right to have a weapon to draw in self-defense should not be infringed upon.
Furthermore, just because you feel that you would have unjustly shot someone with your pistol had you posessed it during the incident you mention doesn't automatically allow you to paint everyone else with the same brush. Let's say I agree with you that it's not such a wise idea for you to carry a weapon. The fact remains that you had the privilege to CHOOSE to leave it at home. The people at VA Tach had no choice.
