Henry's New 41 Mag--Vaporware?

After weeks of rumors and calling around to get the scoop on Henry's new 41 mag lever gun I finally got some idea that they should be hitting retail markets sometime in April according to Henry itself.

So imagine my surprise when my friend at the LGS called and said "Hey--guess what just came through the door?":D

Here, ladies and gentlemen , I present to you my latest (and first Henry) purchase--all I can say is it's utterly magnificent and the answer to my "most wanted gun" that's been at the top of my list for the last 10 years.

Thank you Anthony for listening to us!!!

You too? congrats! Talked to Henry today--apparently there are very few out there and must be "early releases" to distributors (I think mine came via Lipsey's) as they say they haven't ramped up regular production yet. I don't care--got mine and it is GREAT! : ) We're getting hammered by major winter storms at the moment so I won't be able to get out for a while to shoot : (

Got the ad, not as interested in the caliber as much as I would like to see the pistol grip stock in walnut with blued barrel. Time for a note to Henry!

Hey Kcub--my first reaction upon sighting through the rear buckhorn was "If only they made that white diamond high-vis tritium instead"--what do you think?

Pistol grip? Never heard of that on a lever carbine--but if you're talking about the forend and stock--they are both beautifully finished and checkered in walnut--all the metal is matte blued (except for the magazine tube insert).

Now that I have it the first question that crossed my mind this morning while contemplating shooting it--wooops--I didn't even bother asking what the rifle is pressure level rated to since I have some warm hunting loads for my blackhawk. Just to be on the safe side I called Henry and was informed the 41 is basically built off the 44 mag action (and capable of handling 44 mag +P pressures) so I'm good to go--the only thing I was warned about was to make sure I stay within COL specs for the cartridge for proper cycling.

I'm looking into a peep that can go into the pre-drilled and tapped receiver mount holes--Henry says Skinner makes them but I'm also thinking of Henry's scope mount "just in case" since I have bad eyesight. I think there a few peeps that clamp onto rails out there.

I've used HSM bear loads before out of my revolvers--wasn't very impressed with them compared to Underwood or Buffalo bore--but who knows. Fortunately I'll be rolling my own.

I'm completely out of factory ammo--so I'm going to need to whip up some handloads. I'm going to "downsize" my best 44 mag handload and see what happens LOL. This is exciting since doing a hand-gun cartridge for a 20" rifle should be something else. : )
