Hello from southern Afghanistan!

That's cool, but Florida waves the class too and all you need is a copy of a military ID if you're active duty. Florida's is just awesome. It will just take a while to get to me. But you only have to be 18 (military), no class is necessary (for military), and it's honored in 30 states. I don't know about the non-resident license though. But I'm originally from Florida. I was born in Gainesville and grew up in Lake City (Alligator Town lol) until I was 15 and then moved to Kentucky. So maybe I'll be able to claim to be a resident? Being military I hear it's pretty easy. And some guys on this thread are advising it for a few states. So Florida couldn't be that hard.

having to take the class and all

All you need here is a honorable discharge no class is needed. My nephew gets out soon ,he was in afgan at some water thing in a bad province is all I know now. Was also in Iraq. He also is a Marine :)

thanks for serving young man, get to Iowa and live free

Thank you. And yes, with an honorable discharge, your DD214 is all you need to show. If you're active duty, it's your ID card because you don't get a 214 until discharged.

Kevin, are you with a squadron or with MALS 40? Im a MALS guy on KAF myself.
Related, I would go with the NC permit. You will be spending more time in NC than on leave back home, so NC makes sense. I know in SC, pistol qualification counts as a 'class' required to apply for a permit. If you are worried about where to keep the pistol (I'm assuming you live in the barracks for the point of this post), I would ask one of your NCO's who live out in town or base housing to keep there. Thats what I do with my pistol.

Kevin33,
Be safe out there man!! The Springfield XDs are pretty nice and the Glock 19 (like someone else said). I carried a SIG P229 when I was in Afghanistan and I liked it so much, I ended up ordering one last week. The SIG is a pretty nice gun just feels really good. Check that out if you get a chance. Thanks for being out there.

FL Div of Licensing...

I highly suggest contacting or calling directly the main Div of Licensing office in your area of Florida or going straight to the HQ in Tallahassee. ;)
Guesses, estimates or "second hand" legal accounts could really jam you up even if you are a native of the Sunshine State.

Know the DoD policy or USMC/Dept of the US Navy base policy may help too.
As I posted, your base's JAG office or Provost Marshal may offer the recent laws/mandates.

I wasn't in the US Marine Corps so Im not sure if they now use DoD police(083) or if they have MPs/Provost Marshals.

You wouldn't want any UCMJ actions because of weapons/ammunition.

Swing-with-the Wing.

El Torro, late 1970's. I think I'd had Captain's Mast for simply asking about bringing a RB 10/22 on Base. Take lots of pictures. See you when you come home. Semper Fi.
