Have a .357 and .44 Magnum... what should be my next gun??

I'm with the .22 LR guys. Most of them are unbeatable better deals when you factor in the price point ot accuracy to ammo cost. Puls, your ears hands and shoulders dont get abused like a whisper ally angel on payday weekends. You can do anything you want in platform, hyper accurate bolt gun, hella fun assualt rifle styling, trainer style auto pistol, target auto pistol, single or double action revolvers even, single shots. All cheaper by a considerable margin for the weapon, and ammo both.

Wow.

Never thought I'd get so many responses, in less than a day no less!!

The bizare thing about this is..... I was seriously considering a .22lr even before starting this thread. Now let me tell you my reasoning and my reasons for/against:

I have a gf who is somewhat recoil intolerant. She shoots very well, and has shot both my .44 Mag and .357 Mag once, but she prefers specials in either, and her recoil tolerance, according to her, is .38 Special (as shot from the 27 oz SP101 I have). She usually shoots about 50 rounds of that and calls it a day. For me though, that puts me in the awkward position of having to leave the range waaaaay earlier than I would like.

People have always suggested a .22lr many, many times before. And since the issue my gf has is ammo prices and recoil/muzzle flash (she hates both), I thought a .22lr might be ideal.

She told me she is open to the idea and wants one, but she also told me (after much grilling), is that she doesnt like how revolvers look and likes the sleeker more modern look of semi-autos.

So now I'm looking at either Walther P22's or a Mosquito. She doesn;t like the look of the Ruger MK series of guns (and honestly neither do I).

What do you guys recommend along those lines? What semi-auto .22lr??

With all the consistent recommendations, a .22lr is definately the way I'll go, now to just settle on a gun.

BTW with the Walthers I noticed some say "California legal"..... I live in Cali, what does that mean exactly? Ammo capacity??

Also, what benefits would a .22lr give ME, seeing as i'm already decent with .357 and .44 Mags? Besides ammo price of course....

The real deal here is to bring your GF into the "sport" of shooting at her desired rate. Always leave her wanting more. Don't burn her out on it.

With that said, she'll enjoy shooting more if you tailor your "dates" to the range for her. When you want an extended shooting session, go by yourself so you can concentrate on your progress.

Ok. Enough couples therapy. :p

Which .22. You seem to be drawn to the cool little polymer deals. The walther or the sig mosquito. I like both of them, for what they are. I think the Walther is a bit more reasonably priced. The Sig seems to be priced a bit more, in general, and I can't really see where that money is going (other than paying for the SIG name.) If that were the choice to make, then the Walther P22 is the one I would pick, personally.

The Beretta Neo's also fit that bill pretty well. The longer sight radius will help get consistent shots. So if portability isn't an issue, consider one of those as well.

Maybe you should take your GF and let her pick one that suits her. Take her to a range that rents guns and rent every .22 in the case and see which one she likes the most. (It seems that you want a gun that your GF will shoot.)

Obviously you want a gun to fit another niche.

I'm going to tell you one thing! I should have bought an S&W Airweweight .38spl +P about 15-20 years ago, but I'm glad I got one 2 years ago. What a love affair, and I own some really cool gun's, but that is one of my babies.

Everybody should have a snuby, and I'm serious!

TBS, I own a SP101 3" too, it's the other snubby but heavy.

Although I do agree with the other posters that a .22 LR caliber is probably what should be next on your purchase list, they did not list any draw backs.

Here are the drawbacks, from personal experience and friends comments about mine:

1. You shoot more.
Less time spent with the kids and doing other chores.

2. You'll find yourself looking for another type of ammo when your shopping.
Good Lord knows we do not need another reason to spend our money.

3. You have to share your gun with a significant other.
The S.O. may want to spend more time with you and may be, or become, a better shot than you are.

4. WTEOTWAWKI happens, you will not be able to hook up with military units, who only use 9mm and 5.56 ammo.
Everyone knows that you will not be able to share their ammo.

5. Reguardless of what you own, the .22 LR will be used against BG's and it will not stop them, just make them extremely mad.
Despite the fact that you have other handguns for home/personal defense, you will always grab the .22. I do not know why this happens, but according to the home defense experts I know, this is a valid assumption on their part.

6. It will be of no use to you in the comming food riots.
????? Yeah, I could not figure that one out either.

7. You will save a ton of money on ammo, because .22LR is so much cheaper than most any other box of ammo.
And if you are worried about the cost of ammo, you should not be shooting anyway. Everyone knows that spending more money on fewer rounds is the smart thing to do!

8. All .22's are a pain in the butt to clean, because all the parts are smaller.
I guess you are supposed to completely strip the gun after each range session and clean it to factory new condition.

There are probably another 10 -15 more I have heard, but I am already laughing so I will not bother typing them. I am sure you get the gist of the idea... The .22LR is a fun round to shoot, it is inexpensive and it provides hours of enjoyment at a fraction of the cost.

Not everyone likes it, but you are not shooting with everyone. Reading these forums I think most people have started out with a .22 caliber rifle or pistol and still enjoy the little bugger. It is a great round to develop and hone your fundamentals on and, again, most people recommend it for new shooters.

Seriously dude, you gotta have the .22 :D

.22 LR - fun, cheap, accurate. If you like your girl going to the range, she will plink with it also. Helps with muscle memory, training, etc. Most do all the big guns do, except at a fraction of a price. I dig mine so much that I got a silencer for it. Including the silencer, class 3 stamp, and gun itself - it is now my most expensive gun. It pays for itself with its ammo being so cheap. I can shoot subsonic 22s, and you would swear that it was a bb gun.

I'll add my vote to a 1911 of some sort. I've heard good things about the new-ish Para GI Expert, although I've no clue if it's on the Cali-Approved list or not. With 1911s, there are .22 conversion kits that you can use to save $$$.

My second vote would be a lever-action chambered for either of your wheelgun calibers. The Marlin 1894 is chambered in both .357 and .44 I think

For $800 I would buy myself a really nice .22 semi-auto, like a Ruger Mark III Hunter or a nicer Browning Buckmark, and buy my girl:

Hours of enjoyment.

A 1911 or some sort
One of those plastic things made in Austria:D
A single action "cowboy" pistol of some sort. 45LC
Ruger 10-22 AND Mk III
AR15
AK

Yea i agree, get yourself a 22.LR in a pistol or rifle. You will love it, you can by a box of 500 rnds for an extremely cheap price and shoot and enjoy it all day, unlike your 44 magnum and plus your Girlfriend can enjoy the 22.LR too. I own a 357 mag and a 44 mag, but i shoot my 22. Ruger mark1 the most. Get a 22LR you will be glad you bought it.

Umm just no .500 magnum, not really interested in that....

460 Smith and Wesson Magnum. Allows you to fire the big 460, the 454 Casull, the 45 Colt, and 45 Auto Rimmed. Some loads are faster/more powerful than many 500 Magnum loads, but you have the choice of shooting the smaller, lighter 45 Colt and AR as well.

Logic dictates that your next caliber should be .523. But, since handguns only go up to .50 caliber, I'd say that should be the caliber of your next gun...Deagle Fifty.

yup, yup

.22 lr

If you like autos, the Ruger .22 comes in a variety of shapes and flavors.
I shot a 5.5" heavy bbl better than any pistol I've ever owned, but the 4" std bbls are more portable.

Since you seem partial to DA revolvers, maybe a S&W, the kit gun.

And the Ruger Single-6 is a great SA revolver.

I went w/o a .22 handgun for a while myself, and now that I own a couple, shoot them more than any other pistol I have. Should have bought one of those first!!!!!

I agree - get a 22LR and get the one your gf thinks looks the best. It matters.

BTW, the other route that hasn't been suggested yet (with your budget) is to get a glock 17/19 (9mm) and a 22 conversion kit for it. You can get that all new for your budget money, or the glock used. They are nice shooters and because of the grip, they are pretty mild. Plus, it looks like a real gun when you shoot 22LR. :-)

It gets you into 9mm which is easy to shoot and cheaper as well, and lets you shoot 22 - I think it's a great combo. You might loose the whole setup to her though, so be careful.
