Happy 4th what irritates you the most about reloading

Flashhole articulated:
I don't like the newbies that want to get into reloading without doing their homework. They present a danger to themselves and others.
So I'm almost a newby, haven't bought any reloading gear yet.

So the question to you is, how would you or other experienced reloading experts suggest I proceed?

I'm loading 38 and 357 today, or at least that was the plan. Just found out that I used up all my 158 gr lead bullets during the last reloading session, and forgot to reorder. That's irritating...

Sorting brass doesn't bother me much, I usually do it in front of the TV or a movie... and I always sort my brass by headstamp, just part of how I like it done.

My biggest annoyance lately may be the effort involved with sizing 9mm brass, just wish it were more like .38 or .45.

I would suggest you do a search on FC brass, there has to be gigs of space used by members on other forums that just can not stand FC brass. Seems they claim it is too soft. That is not a problem for me; I would be more concerned if it was not soft. I like a case that expands when fired, I do not want my cases to expand a lot but I want my case heads to expand a measurable amount. It has always been that way.

I have, like many others, heard that. Typically for rifles like my M1A or AR-10 I load about four to five times and have never experienced a problem with the Federal Brass. I guess given a choice between soft or brittle I will take soft. Anyway, I never had an issue with the Federal GM Match brass I have reloaded. I just can't say if it is in fact softer.

While I love retired I do miss having a full machine shop at my disposal with full sets of gauging including a wide range of calibrated hardness testers. Then too, if the brass works for me do I really care what the hardness is? :)

Has to be case prepping rifle brass.

Inspect.
Tumble.
De-cap/resize.
Clean primer pockets.
Trim.
Chamfer.
De-burr.
Inspect again.
Re-prime.

After all of that x1,000, I finally get to add powder and projectiles.

Hornadys Bullet Comparator.
Every time I need to use mine. The tool confuses me. I have to re-read its near worn out page of directions prior to every use. Its the most baffling tool of all that I use & have. I HATE IT !!~~ but it sure does what its suppose to do._:o

Deburring is the worst for me. i use the forster pencil sharpener base. The deburr points are a deadly weapon if you slip, i wonder why the points are so darned sharp.

The only thing I don't like about reloading is putting the finished ammo/components away when I'm done. None of the steps in the process is difficult or a drudge. I like reloading...

Perhaps my feelings about reloading can be summed up in this little truth; There's only one way to eat an elephant. That's one bite at a time. If any part of reloading becomes work, I'll chop that part into handleable chunks (one bite)...

Nothing ... with straight walled revolver cases that is.

Now rifle, I don't like lubing the cases. That's the only irritation I can think of ... but haven't reloaded a rifle round in I bet 10 years, so not a big deal :) .

Two things I really hate. Weight sorting my primers and polishing the inside of my cases. After I sort my primers by diameter, I always weight sort them and it takes a long time.

But case polishing is almost as bad.

It is a real PITA to get a nice shine on the inside of the case shoulder, especially with my 6mm BR cases. I've got a little flex shaft for my Dremel tool, but it still requires time and getting that little inspection mirror down in there isn't easy either.

The lack of Federal primers I wanted. Now i have to substitute CCI 250s for the Federal 215Ms I wanted

Pet peeves:

1.) 95 degrees in the garage. Shift reloading time to 3 am.

2.) Not having my reloading buddy Lobo (yellow Lab) hanging out with me. He passed last year.

3.) Newbies who can't be bothered with reading the simplest of manuals to at least learn the correct terminology. ("Bulletheads" drives me frickin' nuts.) Questions are ok but words have meanings. Learn them!!

Things I like:

Just about everything else. I am old and slow now and enjoy the processes as much as the shooting.

Only think that bothers me when reloading is being interrupted. Exwife never got the hint. Hence the EX part

Bulk rifle case prep...

I like loading 270 and 308, but loading range fodder for my daughter to burn out of an AR is time consuming. I would say not worth the trouble since I'm not saving a ton of money... But I can load good ammo that shoots under 1moa all day every day, and occasionally will leave one ragged hole at 100 yards, for 20 cents per round.

Nothing really. It's too relaxing of a hobby. Especially the shooting part. Then, I get to do it all over again. Perfect!
