Handguns/Firearms In Movies.....

Well, the 1911A1 or Commander in EXTREME PREJUDICE jumped from one to the other, both were in the movie. Jack Bodine was the man.

Powers Booth's bad guy role prevented me from believing him in any non-bad guy roles for a long time.

The Lewis gun (??) in "The Sand Pebbles"

Quigley's Sharps

There was another movie I can't put a name to -- may even have been a Spaghetti western -- where the hero used a l-o-n-g range rifle.

The .303 in "Brown on Resolution" (You may have had another name for that film.) But then I love the old SMLE.

I like the final shootout in "The Wild Bunch" -- but don't ask me to name the firearms used; I haven't seen it for years -- but there was a whole heap of them. Anyone remember??

1) The M14s used by Wings Hauser and another actor in The Siege of Firebase Gloria.

2) "Puff the Magic Dragon" Vulcan machine gun in The Green Berets.

You guys are forgetting the Lewis Gun that was put to good work mowing down zombies in THE MUMMY. Wasn't it also used in HIGH ROAD TO CHINA with Tom Seleck?

The 16" guns in UNDER SIEGE.

THE GUNS OF THE NAVERONE

The field guns in the WIND AND THE LION (real cannister shells used).

The shootout in Heat just rocks.

I'm an audio engineer in one of my other lives and almost all of the audio in that sequence was recorded live. The sound crew put microphones down the side streets and alleys to mix in the great echoes and reverbs from the gunfire coming off the buildings and rolling down the streets, just amazing audio in that scene.

I think DeNiro's crew were firing M4's. DeNiro also has a nice P220 throughout, if I remember. There's also a G3 in there somewhere...

Let's not forget the firearms used in "Lawrence of Arabia." Pretty close to accurate, throughout. Also was a great flick.

Favorite firearm would be DH's famous .44 mag.

Favorite shootout is the final scene in "The Long Riders". It's one of the most brutal I've ever seen in a Western. It does a pretty good job of showing the mauling power of 19th century firearms. And the slow-motion sounds of slugs smashing into flesh as the horses scream. Ouch!

To help on the guns of Heat:

In the bank robbery scene, Pacino had an FNC, the bank robbers had various M16 carbines, except for Tom Sizemore who had a Galil. In the earlier scene with the pickup, Val Kilmer had a G3, Sizemore had a Benelli M3 (set on pump), and the bad guy had a TMP. Wes Studi had a Mossberg latter on.

Keep in mind that I haven't seen this movie for probably 2 years, but I pride myself on catching movie guns. When I started school my roomates were into guns also, as we would watch a movie I would identify the guns and they would always try to prove me wrong. Never could get me, though a USP & a Sig 220 look a lot alike in profile during quick shots. :)

GRD:

I'll have to watch Heat again...darn. I don't recall seeing a G3; I do recall seeing Val Kelmer with a SR9 or it could have been an MSG90, it was not a PSG1, but I didn't see a G3.

Gun control started the Revolutionary War!..."itcta alea est"

You are referring to the scene at the drive-in I take it. If that's it I'll have to take another look.

Way of the Gun, is pretty damn good.
They did all the right things, when using a 1911.

Someone trained them boys well.

Every scene with Cpl.Kirby in "Combat" (BAR) Every BAR scene in Pvt Ryan.

Eastwood's auto mag.

Harrison Ford in Raiders.. don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

thats entertainment..

for making you squirm and THINK..

Martin Sheen shooting the civilian in "A
Apocalypse Now" and the end of "full Metal Jacket"

Sometimes we don't think about the darker side, or the "reality"of these scenes.. we should.

Rob

PS.. everyone I know who has been to boot camp smiles when the DI gets it in FMJ. Kinda spooky.

"Horizontal Mambo"? Is that a novel combat technique taught at Gunsite? ;) Guys, the exact line from US Marshalls was "Lose that nickel-plated sissy pistol; get yourself a Glock". Very minor difference, but I thought you might want to know...

hkG3: The drive in scene is it. Looked like a G3 with a bipod...memory...fading...argh! :)

And are those full-size M16's in the street shootout? I thought they were M4's...damn, where is that tape.

This may be too far out for some, but in an old Spaghetti Western, Burt Lancaster plays the title role in "Tell them Valdez is Coming".

At one point, after he rescues the pretty girl and has the bad guys chasing him, he pulls a Quigley and starts picking off bad guys at incredible range. I don't recall the gun, its been a long time. Sharps? Hi-wall?

When the BG's catch him and ask him how he did it, he gives his handloading recipe! A memorable scene in an otherwise ordinary film.

Anyone else see this and have more info?
