Guns & Disney.

Does anyone know if I can bring a concealed firearm to DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida? I have a Florida state CCW License and after reading the provisions of the law, it was a little unclear to me so I contacted the Florida Secretary of State and they told me that they didn't know. I then contacted Disney themselves and they said that they weren't sure but would get back to me but never did.

Does anyone know for certain one way or another on this issue and is there any official supporting documentation that I can produce as proof?

FUD, In answer to your question about concealed carry in RatWorld, er Disney World. It is definatly a no no.. If you are discovered with a concealed firearm you WILL be arrested and charged with criminal trespass. Then you will be stripped of your Florida CWL.. Mark / FL

Doesn't a property owner have to warn you and ask you to leave (and you don't) before the police can actually arrest you?

It would kind of stink to have the cuffs going on as your first clue that you were in violation of Uncle Walt's laws.

Is a "no weapons" sign posted? I live in Orlando, have been several times to all parks (although not in the last year) and have never seen a sign. As far as I know, it is not prohibited under the FL CCW law.

Somehow I can never equate a Disney theme park with guns. Robbery certainly (it cost us $55 for a LUNCH BUFFET for 3 at MGM), but not ARMED robbery. I didn't take my pistol because we flew down, and went on the cruise as well. Too much crap to go through.

Somehow, I envision a squad of Mickey Mice (Mouses?) dragging the hapless gun owner, over to the "It's a Small World ride, handcuffing him, and throwing him on one of the little boats. Then he is left there for 24 hours, going through over and over.....

Yee Gods man, I'd be screaming to be taken way for a nice long QUIET prison sentence LONG before the end of that horrible torture.

jfrancis, it is a no no to carry into
wdw. i am a ccw and live a few miles from
the place. disneyworld is unique in that
it has a state sanctioned independent
government with it's on autonomy seperate
from the state of florida. no firearms
allowed in parks. if you check into the campground and you have a firearm in your
camper you are requested to turn it in
at the receptionist office for you duration as a guest.

Disney ain't worth it. Forty-five minutes in line for a two-minute ride. Suffocating heat while you stand on asphalt waiting to get in. Exorbitant costs, both to get into the theme park and for concessions and souvenirs. Plus Disney is (now that Walt is dead) one of the most liberal enclaves in the state. Stay away if possible. Never been to Disneyworld but go to Disneyland at least once a year. Used to take the kids; now I take the grandkids. Probably just an excuse so I can go. Never once thought about taking my handgun. Always leave it in the trunk of the car at the motel. Disneyland is one place in this country that I feel safe. It is a family place and security is tight (several times have seen troublemakers escorted out the gate before they could start serious trouble). Go to Disneyworld, take the kids and have a good time. Leave the gun in the car or whatever.

I have mixed emotions--on the one hand, I'd bet Disneyworld is actually a pretty hard target since everyone is under such constant surveillance and they're so ruthlessly efficient about ridding the park of everyone who so much as steps out of line--I imagine a BG with a weapon would find himself swarmed and out on his butt if not in prison.

OTOH, it's still not worth it in my eyes. You can spend a fortune there, and several days, and what do you get? Six Flags is a much better deal as amusement parks go.

BUT the fiance loves Disney, and I promised her we'd go, so we'll go. I'll just spend the whole time sulking, or something. :D

Oh, and can someone tell me more about this autonomy of Disney? I'd never heard that! Although I have a trivia book around here somewhere that states that Disney has the world's third largest "navy!"

CCW is not illegal at Disney World. Florida has no provision like Texas' 30.30 law. 'No Concealed Weapons' signs have no legal standing.

Disney's special status as a municipality does not give them the right to make local firearm laws. Only the state Legislature can do this.

Even so, Disney security can and will escort you off premises if you're discovered packing.

Hmmm... deep concealment required on Disney turf?

It sounds like the perfect job for a mousegun. :D

(Get it? "Mouse" gun? HA-HA-HA-ha-ha-ha-ha! Oh, the levity! :p )

Jeffelkins is right.

Disney has not posted a "no weapons" sign in any of their parks. Florida statute 790 specifically forbids municipalities and counties from enacting laws more severe than state laws. Reedy Creek is a municipality, the law applies to them. CCW is legal at Disney so long as the person complies with state law in all respects.

I finally got an answer back from Disney with regard to what their official policy is on the matter ...
quote:
Thank you for your letter.

It may interest you to know we have a strict policy regarding firearms. Our policy is that no guns are permitted in our theme Parks or Resorts. If one is brought on property by a resort guest, it must be locked up in the safe deposit boxes at the front desk, not in a room safe. If firearms are brought in by guests visiting our theme parks, it must either be left in their vehicle, or checked in with security when entering the park. Only on-duty law enforcement officers whose agency has jurisdiction at the Walt Disney World Resort may carry any weapon.

We hope you find this information helpful.

Fud, FWIW on my next trip to Disney I fully intend to carry. I fully comply with the CCW laws of my state and on this issue, Disney can kiss my butt. It's concealed anyway. Screw em.

Fellow Floridians: If No Weapons signs start popping up at businesses please stand up for your rights and ignore them. They have no validity under Florida law.

Careful Jeff,

We don't want them to make an example of you and display your "arsenal" and "antigovernment literature" on the evening news. Tread softly sir. :)

Umm, as far as I know, all theme parks have a "no weapons" policy. I know Six Flags does, too - I grew up about 6 miles from one. Amusement parks are all private property, they have the right to say "I don't want any guns on my property", just like you do.

OTOH, Disney has supported anti-2nd causes lately, and Six Flags is owned by Time-Warner...

That, and I'm not confident enough in my abilities to pick out & hit the bad guy when I'm surrounded by 5,000 panicked kids and their moms, anyway. A jerked trigger in a split-second of panic could be, well, catastrophic.

While "NO WEAPONS" signs may have no validity under Florida law, I look at it this way ... If it's their park, or place of business, then it's their rules. My mother has been a smoker for close to half a century and as an adult, she can obviously purchase cigarettes and smoke but when she comes to visit us and spend time wiith her granddaughter, she doesn't smoke -- I don't want my child exposed to second hand smoke the way that I was when growing up. My house, my rules.

Don't support a business that doesn't support your second amendment rights. If they don't want you with your gun, then don't go and give them your money (a portion of which, might go to support gun control measures via contributions) either. Instead, spend your money someplace else that doesn't place restrictions on your 2nd amendment rights -- you'll feel better about it in the long run.

Just to put this into perspective:

Keep in mind that at the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, twice yearly, KCR bans loaded guns on the premises. Why? Safety. Its too easy to pull out a gun and have an AD (which I understand one dealer had on set up Thursday). This, of itself, does not constitute anti-2nd Amendment feelings on the part of KCR.

Having said that, Disney is becoming one of the most liberal- and gay-loving organizations, and all that that implies, in the country.

So you make your choices and takes your pick. BTW: 6 Flags GA is nowhere near as good as the Rat World, I used to live in Winter Park (suburb of Orlando) and went to RW a bunch of times. I only went to 6 flags once and nver again.

For my children, I'll probably go to RW one more time, but after that, never again. I won't try to carry in RW because I know security is so strict and I would feel completely safe. However I wouldn't want spend anymore money than necessary to support a clearly liberal company.
