Gun Shop Etiquette

My advice is to get to know the people who either own, or work at, the gun store you patronize. Go in and make some purchases. Things like ammunition, cleaning kits, holsters, and other accessories. So you have a history of shopping there. It is far easier to ask for a break on price if they know you, and far easier for them to give you one if they know you.

Most of all, don't go in there and act like a know it all jerk. That will get you no where really quick.

As far as saying anything to anyone about thei choices, frankly, who cares? Unless they ask me my opinion (and why would they) it is none of my business what anyone else buys.

On Haggling

I have now narrowed down my gun buying options to three local gun stores and Academy and maybe Cabelas. At the local stores I will ask one time "What is the lowest price you will let me have it for?". If it is good with me I buy it, if not I usually tell them it is more than I feel I can pay right now or something else politely. I try to buy from locals because they are locals. Academy and Cabelas are out of townand bigger businesses. The locals(one is actually 85 miles away but I frequent) take the time and patience to let me look and handle the guns whether or not I buy anything on that visit or not. I have bought before and will likely buy in the future. One of the things I like about these LGS is the respect they show me and I try to show in return. Simple common courtesy goes a long way.
