Got my Kimber back today

I feel bad for anyone who's had a problem with their Kimbers. I've put just about 4,000 rounds through my Gold Match since October or November, and the only problems I've had are with feeding my reloads (I like to seat the bullet out as far as possible). With factory ammo, both the Gold Match and the Pro Carry function flawlessly. When I decided that I wanted a lighter, smoother trigger Kimber took the gun and had it back in a week, free of charge even though the gun was out of warranty. Got the newer style mags even though the gun was out of warranty. And the Gold Match shoots better than I'll ever be able to. Gave it to an expert shooter at the range and he put one shot over another over another at 25 yds.

But, if something goes wrong, I'm sure you'll hear me b*tching about it. (g)

I know what you mean. I just got back from the range minus the 200 rounds that I shot through my Kimber. It's hit the 1300 round mark without a glitch yet. Some guys may have gotten lemons, I'm glad I'm not one.

BTW, it took longer at the range than anticipated. I had to help another shooter figure out why his Glock wouldn't work. :)

Jim:
Damn straight! Another few hundred through it, and I'll rely on it.

Walter:
I guess not, since apparently, they used mine! :)
And yes, it did. Oh well, somehow I'll carry on. ;)

My only problem with my Kimber (5" Custom Classic) was with the stock Kimber magazine. The follower had a nasty tendency to ride up and forward a liitle out of the mag lips after the last shot, jamming the pistol BUT GOOD. I would have to lock the slide back manually, hold in the mag release and really claw the magazine out of the gun. This happened all the time, every time. Needless to say, I now use Wilson mags or factory Colt 7-rounders, with no problems.
The stock Kimber mags I had performed worse than the poorest piece of no-name gun show junk mags I ever bought. I may have just been unlucky, but make sure you REALLY trust your Kimber mags before you use them in your carry piece.

Best Regards,
Pz

224 - Don't keep us in suspense...and the Glock would not fire because? My guess would be that it was not loaded.
PzKpfW - I had the identical problem with my Classic Custom Target. Slide would not lock back on last round and mag became stuck in the well. The Kimber 7 rounder is garbage and would love to here from anyone that is having good service with the supplied 7 rounder. I too switched to Chip McCormick 8 round Tactical and Power Mag. Have one Wilson Combat. In-process of evaluating which is best. You can get the CM Tacticals from CDNN for 8.99 blue or 11.99 stainless. Wilsons, I find are always dealer pricey even at the gun shows. My gun will still not allow me to release the slide on a loaded magazine or with no mag in the well. I have a good bit of creep prior to sear release and I am thinking of sending it back to Kimber for the work. Tree Rat

Well here is the main observation from an old gun lover.

FIT AND FINISH DO MATTER. And it is a personal preference for guns that makes gun ownership fun.

First, if all my friends shot Kimbers (most are not that intelligent) like I do, then it would not be as fun to win hamburgers from them.

Second, if all my friends shot Kimbers, then I would not have anyone to make fun of their ugly wittle tupperware weapons. And they would not be able to make fun of my purtty wittle fancy girly looking kimber name. SMILE THIS IS NOT A FLAME JUST A JOKE OKAY SO KEEP YOUR COOL.

THIRD, if Kimber is so bad and their customer service is so horrible, why is it that you can never find a kimber instock. There are plenty of other guns in the cases but not Kimbers.

Lastly, I have nothing but good things to say about Kimbers customer service. They treated me curteously and responded quickly to my requests and would not let me pay for services even though it was for a used gun. It was only a owner manual and take down tool but they would not even let me pay for the postage.

Guns are like spouses. Some are more work than others, but living without them would be miserable.

Judge Blackhawk.

P.S. Notice how politically correct I am in using the term spouses instead of "women" -- SMILE

Governments ability to control is directly related to its ability to disarm.

Shouldn't that be "spice" instead of "spouses"??

It's not the Glocks that are called "tuperware". It's the boxes that they are shipped in.

In my opinion McCormick mags are unreliable. I just sent one back to Brownell's and got a Wilson "Bureaucrat" in exchange. The Wilson's a much better design and doesn't fail.

Still can't get that Bureaucrat to handle 18 rounds, like my G21, with the Grams extension.

Shoot to kill; they'll stop when they're dead!

Actually, my Kimber 7 rounder works just as well as my Wilsons. I heard they changed the design a while back, maybe you have an older one.

Tree Rat:
Send it back. Unless UPS screws up your address too, you should have it back in a jiffy. And, If you have a Kimber master dealer in your area, you won't have to pay shipping at all.

If Wilson or Les Baer etc. produced as many pistols as Kimber we probably would see a comparable amount of "lemmons" from these guys as compared to Kimber. Allso I am not at all convinced that MIM parts are as bad as some people on this list have alleged. It isnt likely that the people at Kimber and their backers would have spent millions of dollars to make a firearm with the fit and finish that they have created and would be so stupid as to use inferior parts that would fail. As far as failing is concerned....everything fails ...there is no absolute certainty that you firearem or anything else that you own might fail when you need it...the chaces may be small but they are still there. I own a Kimber stainless Classic and have put 500 rounds of various ammo throught it with no failure of any kind. I would trust it as much as anything can be trusted...as much as any other firearm that I have. Just my 2 cents. :)

kimber ...hmmmm.. could i ask the price you paid for your piece...although i never fired one , i did handle one last week ..it felt like a slab of bacon in my hand ..lifeless..
i guess i'll have to reserve my total judgement untill i fire ,one ofcourse, for me their will only be one ....beretta

I'd say the Para Ordnance feels more like a Pork Loin, two and half-pounder. Norinco feels like Spam and the Charles Daley feels like hog-head cheese. Mmmmmmmmm...hog-head cheese.

I need a reality check???

You guys probably buy GM cars too??? Oh God...

Listen ya'll it ain't me whose complaining about Kimbers lack of attention when it comes to customer service, its all over TFL and other places as well, even in print. I ain't saying they can't churn out good guns, I don't care if they make 10,000 good and 10 bad. It's how they handle the 10 bad that make or break the company...period.

Fit and finish are important to a point, but we will LOOK at a gun in a commando shop and say "Ain't it pretty, looks like a great gun". What a crock!!! Some of the best, reliable 1911s I've had experience with rattle like grandma's china cabinet...but go bang everytime the trigger is pulled.

And no 224, I am not saying the Springfields are better than the others. They are not in any particular order. But I will say this, I'll bet you've never heard of Springfield not backing their guns 100%. I haven't!!!

By the way, it ain't QUANTITY its QUALITY. Question: You've got a Wilsons 1996A2 and a comparable Kimber sitting side by side. Your life is dependant on one gun, and your not farmililar with either of the guns put before you. Which do you choose???

You can't base your choice on experience, you've never shot either gun before. Someone will wisly answer, "walk away". And that would be a correct responce. But anybody who did choose would probably choose the Wilsons. BASED ON REPUTATION ALONE!!!

Is this such a difficult concept??? But to each his own. I guess thats why Chevy is still making those things they call cars, but I'll never buy one.

Next topic Kimber VS. SIG...

Place your bets...

I haven't seen anyone claim Kimber turned their back on a problem. There was one person, I believe, who waited a month or two to get his back, but if I remember correctly, he was also in regular contact with Kimber, and they did not want to send it back until I met their standards.
I may not have been impressed by the Custom Shop, but the fact remains they fixed my gun, and did it quickly.
PeterGunn:
Have you ever bought a Kimber and sent it to the Custom Shop? If not, I don't see how your personal opinion should be valued more than first-hand experience.

Pete, it aint ME complaining about Kimber either...never had to use their customer service as I never even had a Kimber JAM on me, much less break. As for your little question, I would choose the Kimber based on my personal experience and that of people I know. I don't know Wilson Combat guns (other than that they use the same frames and slides as Kimbers) but I DO know Kimbers.
And actually I drive a Jeep...<g>

Peter, my problem with your statement was this. If I get a custom made 1911 from Caspian frame and slide, Kart barrel, Ed Brown parts, S&A magwell, all put together and fitted by Richard Heinie, it is a piece of junk by your statement. I don't think so.

I think the most fun on TFL is to find a bunch of 1911 folk, and push their buttons for a few days. Watching you guys spit and slobber over who's "Kimber" is longer has been this weeks highlight :p.

Just to be honest and fair, I love the 1911, and just acquired a Springfield Loaded model and find it to be an adequate weapon. Will it ever replace my SIG 226...HELL NO!!!

As far as Kimber goes, everybody will have differing experiences with whatever gun they choose. Some may like it, some may hate it. GLocks are a perfect example. Are Glocks good guns? Yup. Does everybody like them? Nope. I'm sure Kimber makes a fine firearm. Hey its your life, and if Kimber gets your blood flowing, great.

But you boys need to do one thing...

LIGHTEN UP!!! :) Know when somebody's pushing your buttons. All you have to do is read every other post I've ever made to see what I really think on a day to day basis.

Anyway, thanks for the laughs... :D

No john, you would probably have one of the finest 1911's you could get, but I wouldn't want to see the price tag.

Take 5 deep breaths and count to 10. You might feel better.

I just love 1911 folk, so predictable.

Peter, I would hate to see the price tag too. Do you think he might take my wifes car in trade? :)
