Got my Kimber back today

Arrived too late in the day to go shooting. will give it the test tomorrow.
I sent it in for failure to feeds and falling to half-cock.
I am not very impressed so far. They kept my bushing wrench, which I sent in the case as a courtesy. The mainspring housing retaining pin was half out. No test target, although it's dirty, so they must have fired it.
I wanted to have Novak lo-mount tritium sights installed, but they wanted $97 dollars for the rear alone!!!! (bar).
I'll post again after I put some rounds through it.

Now I'm really not impressed. The barrel feed ramp has a nick in the edge! What the hell!
I thought it was supposed to come back in BETTER condition.

My shooting buddy bought a $1200 Kimber. It fell apart during our first shooting session. First the rear sight fell out, lucky we found it. Then the bolt-on magazine well fell off. Next, the safety wouldn't disengage. Besides all that, it wouldn't feed several types of ammo. He sent it back to the factory. When the piece came back, no letter, no explanation, no nothing. I told him to buy the Springfield TRP next time, and sell that piece of junk.

Kimber Classic 5" S/S.
I'm not giving up on it, It was EXTREMELY accurate when working. The fit and finish is obviously superior to a Springfield when you compare them side to side. Just look at the finish, the fit between the slide and frame (much more uniform and tighter on the Kimber) and the uniformity of the checkering. All these are apparent without taking it apart. If you field strip it, the quality of the Kimber is even more obvious.
I like the gun, but the Custom shop didn't "do" it for me.
They did at least get it back to me pretty quick.
They are pushing the limits in tolerances, so I think every once in a while, a goof slips out the door. unfortunately, I got one.

I also have a Kimber and have nothing but kind words for mine,I have the Goldmatch.I must say after having owned quite a few 1911`s over the years and still do the kimber is by far my favorite! It outshoots my custom Para P13 with ease and i have twice the amount of money in it! The only thing i have noticed is the barrel because it is match grade is very tight , so you have to make sure your reloads are in spec. I am curious as to what brand bullets you tried what loading if they were reloads etc.if so maybe i could help.

All factory ammo.
Winchester 230grn FMJ
Remington 230 grn. FMJ
Remington 200 grn. JHP.
And I made a boo boo. The bushing wrench was in the box, just hidden under the foam!

Man that is strange especialy with the 2 different types of hardball. The main thing mine used to choke on was a 185 cast semiwad cutter from Ga. arms, but only my para would fed them anyway! One thing it could be is your mags, usually the first thing i do is throw the factory mags away and get the Wilson`s ive been using those for years now!and also one more thing is if you`ve got a lot of rounds through it ,could be the recoilspring I usually get the wolfsprings!Sometimes in as little as 1000 rounds ive had to replace them although it is very rare they go that fast.

Hee Hee...
I was using Wilson Combat mags,I fired only 250 rounds through it, it was double-firing quite often.
See why I sent it back? ;)

Well, just got back from the range.
No malfs in 200 rounds, various ammo. And man is this thing accurate! I'm quite pleased. The gun is definitely more accurate than I am. Time for some practice!
Now that it works it's alot more fun :)

Hope your problems are fixed. I didn't get a test target back with my Gold Match, but it is a tack driver and it runs well. Trying to sell it on the want ads, but I guess I am priced too high.

When are we shooters going to learn the 2 basic rules to choosing a gun...

#1: Good fit and finish only mean the damn thing looks good and doesn't rattle when you shake it. IT DOES NOT MEAN the thing is going to work!!!

#2: ONLY buy guns from a maker who backs them up 100%. Kimber has a HORRIBLE reputation in the customer service Dept. If the maker ain't gonna back his product, it ain't worth a tinkers damn.

There are five rules to 1911 buying:

#1: Springfield

#2: Les Baer

#3: Wilson's

#4: Novak

#5: Cylinder & Slide

Anything else is garbage for one reason or another.

And here I am all set to get a Kimber Compact Custom. That is too bad.By the way, when did Springfield stop manufacturing in the Good Ole U.S. of A and become a Brazilian importer?

#1. gun didn't work

#2. Kimber fixed gun in a timely manner

#3. No charge

#4. same gun is now the most accurate I have ever owned.

#5 If fit and finish was not important, I would have saved a lot of money and bought a Lorcin.

Sorry Pete, I gotta call BS on your little statement. Fit and finish are VERY important. And it seems to me that Kimber took care of Dave pretty good, so there goes your little rant on customer service too.

Yes, the above make some fine weapons, but to say anything else is garbage, is to show ignorance as to what is available in 1911's.

Golon, Springfield has been using frames produced in Brazil for years.

If a gun is for serious purposes, fit, finish and even (within reason) accuracy take a back seat to function. A pretty gun that doesn't work ALL THE TIME is a pretty toy they can put in your coffin with you.

Wow Pete, Springfield is better than Les Baer, Wilson and the rest? I guess you're thinking of a different Springfield than the rest of us. Got a web address? You wouldn't happen to own stock would you? :)

Hey I was just impressed with Dave's courtesy in sending Kimber that wrench. Bet they didn't have one, before they got his.

Dave, when you got that Kimber back, did it still have those MIM parts in it??? :) :)
