Good Place to Stash your gun?

but we do have a family member living with us that is anti gun

So, who owns the house?

But anyway I'd definitely keep it in a quick access lockbox bolted to something. Guns laying around when you're not there is a bad thing.

I like the clock method, everybody has clocks, so who would suspect it holds a gun. I think I saw it in sportsmans guide or cabella's

SportsmansGuide. They are very nice clock cases, with very crappy Chinese clockworks. I bought a replacement Seiko movement for mine; about $9. I wish SG would have paid an extra 50¢ to put a decent movement in it.

It looks nice, and when it's hanging on the wall it doesn't look unusually thick or anything. I suppose if you were handy you could put a key lock in it to keep curious people out, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

large plastic type container where you store rice, like a 20lb bag

who would look there outside of a hungry asian LOL
Also, had a place before, office space, electrical boxes were just when you entered the premisis, case I'd ever need to get to a firearm, as in I had my carry piece disarmed from me kind of thing.
Regarding the plastic rice container, a cat or dog food sack would work well also, or a large container with the pet food there. I guess the most creative would be to put your piece in a ziplock bag, then stash it down in the kitty box, but that may lend itself to extremist LOL

Watch a bunch of spy movies. Either google or get creative and you can have a spring loaded secret drawer for your handgun without a too much trouble.

The strangest one I've ever seen was a person who did not have kids or anyone else living with him. He bought a cat litter pan, cat litter, a durable plastic bag, and some kind of chocolate candy. Within minutes he had a loaded and ready handgun in what appeared to be a very used, and not often cleaned cat litter pan. I don't know anyone who would go digging in that. The only weird thing is that he doesn't have any cats, but when people ask he says he does, and that they're just hiding somewhere.

I wonder what kind of chocolate candy he bought. It wouldn't be Tootsie Rolls, would it? You could get them wet and twist them around and let the clumping litter stick to them.

Is a concealed-carry holster out of the question? If I needed ready-access to a handgun that had to be out of sight, that's where I'd have it.

All the best,
Rob

It probably was Tootsi Rolls, but I didn't ask. I thought he was insane when he reached his hand in that nasty looking box. As he pulled out a plastic bag with a handgun he explained that it was just candy. I asked how he kept his cat from crapping in there. His response was "What cat? I don't have a cat." He had been lying to me and several other close friends and family for years and just claiming the cat must be "outside or hiding somewhere". He even went so far as to change the arrangment of the "cat poop" every now and then.

He also has several other handguns hidden around, but he doesn't let anyone know where they are. That's the same advise I would give anyone. I know he kept one in a trash can that he never emptied for a while. He also has one somewhere that he can reach from inside the shower.

I would be afraid that if anything happened to me, someone might find them that would pull the trigger, etc. and hurt themselves or someone else....like maybe my wife or grandchildren.

Almond Rocha

LOL my mom makes it for us every Christmas and i don't have the heart to tell her that i can't eat it for that very reason.

Unique Storage

I've always imagined that i'd store mine in my computer case, with a quick open door... Plenty of room, I work from home so i'm always at my comp, and If someone comes busting in i'm gonna hit the deck which will put the tower at eye level (I keep it on the floor) they make cases where the whole front opens like a cupboard and your guts are on the inside, i figured i'd just clip a holster that holds my gun loose to one of the shelves and forget about it.

Might take some cutting but NOBODY would expect you to have a BUG in your computer... lol get it? ...Bug... LOL I'm retarded.

Not trying to get off topic, but how can you live in a situation where you must hide from others in the home that you have guns? You can disagree with each other all you want on the subject, but you shouldn't have to hide it as if its something you should be ashamed of. My parents dislike guns, but they still know I have them.

I just think you are flirting with disaster trying to hide them around your house and don't want residents of the home to know about them. No matter how well you disguise a safe, they are going to find out.

If they are home alone and get bored, they are going to snoop around a bit, its human nature (not saying they are bad people). If its in a clock, they are going to try to be helpful and reset the clock and find it, if its a book safe they are going to find it while browsing a bookshelf. Just saying, unless you have a safe in a personal place (bedroom, closet, master bath) they are going to find it.

I have a downstairs office where I spend most of every day. My desk has a hanging file drawer on the right side. One of the hanging files inside the drawer is dedicated to my Model 19. The gun has a single folded piece of paper tented over it, so even when the drawer is open, you'd never suspect there's a handgun in there among all the other files and papers--but it's real easy to get to and comes to hand very quickly...

Gun Stashing

you shouldn't have to hide it as if its something you should be ashamed of

revance;

I don't think it's as much of a matter of being ashamed, as it is a matter of keep it away from the young children. I always thought, "well if i have it in my computer, anyone that will find it will be old enough to know to leave it alone." Or, it may be that they want a sneaky/readily accessible hiding spot incase of home invasion.

Jesus5150, I'm not talking about the general idea of merely keeping it out of sight, I mean that he is concerned about having it in a gun safe in a cabinet or something because he doesn't want the anti-gun family members that are living in his house to know about them.
