Good Place to Stash your gun?

Was wanting some ideas on where to stash a gun on the first floor of my house, we usually keep them on the second floor where we sleep but I am getting a new one and wanted to keep one down stairs for easy access. needs to be hiden but easy to get to any ideas? Post pictures if you have them. Thanks!

are there any children in your home ?

in mine, it is above the door to the bathroom so you only see it inside and sitting down... and high enough no child could reach, i have to tip toes.

I am always seeing these ads in print for a wood style quartz wall clock that opens up to hold, ta-da, a pistol case. Some folks that have a book case, hollow out a big hard cover book and hide the pistol in there. I know someone who did that. As for me, I am not telling. Hey you can make suggestions here, why give away your secrets? If there are children around, you best really take that into careful consideration in any case.

children

We dont have any children living with us but we do have a family member living with us that is anti gun so we dont want to advertise the fact that we own them. So, that is why it is such a challenge to hide it.

Mine won't work for you, . . . but FWIW, . . . there is most of the time a hand gun of one sort or another on my desk 10 feet from my computer, and 10 feet from the front door.

Normally, there is an ungly green wash cloth just "dropped" on it, . . . without giving away the details of what is under it. Looks like I was polishing my boots or something, just piled it on the desk.

Actually, in your situation, . . . I'd probably opt for a finger button safe, . . . or personal carry.

The other thing I would do, . . . I would sit down and have one of those old fashioned "down home" heart to heart talks with the anti gun individual. You can be firm, without being rigid, . . . and strong, without being harsh, . . . and inform them that there are weapons in the house, . . . will be in the future. Put it in terms of loving the person, wanting the best for them, and protection is just one fo the "bests" you provide, . . . weapons included.

I more or less had to do that with my daughter in law, . . . and while she is a very open and loving person, . . . I don't think the first time it was mentioned that it went down real well. She accepts the whole thing now, . . . including my son and his CHL, etc.

May God bless,
Dwight

Wal-Mart sells a cheap steel pistol box with a key lock. It comes with holes and screws to mount it to a wall or piece of furniture. It's not high security, but you'd have to actually be willing to destroy it to steal it or get your hands on it, and this box costs only $20.

IMO, if you don't have a real gun safe, you'd be nuts to not have at least a secured box like this one to store any handgun you own, specifically for the times when the gun is in the house and YOU are not. In fact, in a couple states, it's against the law to leave a gun unsecured.

I wouldn't lock up all the guns while I'm home, of course, but that's my preference.

Dwight55`s suggestion on the talk is in order. OTOH, a suggestion, It intales some work, but look at were you want the gun to be. Look for a spot preferably high, buy regular wall(floor) vent cover, cut wall out, inst shelf between 2x4 wall joyce`s and inst. vent cover. One I did for brother has two small tabs I inst`d on cover so you can pull cover out, another has hinges I welded on back of cover and it hinges down to open. Looks like cool air return to furnace.

Definitely a lock box of some kind. Preferably secured to a shelf or some other structure so it can't be easily carried away. You don't want anyone ignorant of guns to have access to them. No matter how anti they are, people are curious and can do some amazingly dumb things that would defy all common sense.

Well there are alot of people on here with creative ideas, but I think we would almost have to visit or virtual tour to brainstorm the best ideas to fit your situation. I don't see the necessity of it being up high with no children around but I would not go for close to the floor, like under a chair or something either. Wherever you put it, consider the environment as you don't want the gun getting full of dust, dirt, exposed to high humidity or heat etc. I don't know about hiding it in the house from an anti gunner either, they might "find" it some day and either cause a confrontation of unpleasantness, or they might do something to the gun to render it unloaded or inoperable, etc. and put it back in place. That could be an unpleasant suprise too.

Assure them that you want to respect their anti-gun sentiments and if someone breaks in to attack them, or steal their stuff, you will not use your guns to defend them. You'll dial 911 and wait for the police.

Wouldn't want to offend them.

Back to your original question, what types of things do you have roughly where you want to store the gun? Is there a closet, bookshelves? I'd figure out where you want to store the gun and figure out what would work there.

In the bedroom closet, up and above the door in the space between the top of the door and the ceiling on a hook(s) or rack(s).

For kids, I also suggest bringing home a real bloodied up varmint you shot... and make sure they see the bloody insides of it... let then hold it by the legs or tail. Then blast a cantaloupe or such. Let them hear the sound & see what happens when the trigger is pulled.

I like the clock method, everybody has clocks, so who would suspect it holds a gun. I think I saw it in sportsmans guide or cabella's

I keep one in the bathroom too. Mainly because the downstairs powder bath is the one place in the house where I would be cut off instantly from access to the rest of the house if someone entered my home while I was in there. Even though I have no children in the house, I keep all guns secured...especially when I am not home. I do not want to walk in on an intruder and be shot with my own gun I left lying around. :)
