9x19,

That's the every one. Just like Big Foot, the adherent even have their "photograhic proof." I called Glock in Smyrna and I was told in no uncertain terms that Glock has never manufactured such a pistol. Someone over at GlockTalk emailed the "Tasmanian" Police Dept., but it seems they never got a response.

So many pistols, so little money.

I suppose they'll just gotta replace all those "unsafe" Glocks with the gun that was so guaranteed-and-proven-safe in the Elian raid, the MP-5 - a gun with a 3-way safety (3 settings on the safety selector just gotta be safer than those two-setting guns).

The explaination is never user error, is it?

Tecolote - maybe these Glocks with a safety are manufactured, and maybe they're not, but in any case, check your atlas. You'll see Tasmania off the southeast coast of mainland Australia.

What a bunch of unprofessional and untrained Goobers they have down under. For enough money this LEO Firearms Instructor will go to the land of Oz and teach them how to shoot and without unintentional discharges. Its a training issue, don't blame the guns, untrained cops with a professionals weapon, kind of scary. I've got a problem with guns in untrained hands, be they cops or civilans. Ignorance and handguns are a sure fire recipe for disaster.

Just for the record, the guns that were banned here were semi auto rifles/shotguns & pump shotguns.
I actually thought of the UNSAFE for Cops = UNSAFE for private ownership issue quite a while back.
17 NDs have happened in New South Wales & the figure is rising....
I really do wonder if there's ANY Aussie Cop who's shot himself more than ONCE with his Glock?...LOL
If at first you don't succeed ;)
Haven't heard of ANY instances here with a private Glock owner ADing themselves or property yet.
I'll be getting on to the Sunday Mail first thing Tuesday morning regarding the SLOPPY reporting & LACK of putting blame on the Instructors & Officers themselves.

It's a dirty job, but it has to be done. I can assure you that they'll have a fine home. :D

There are two things I have learned about guns, and someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Rule #1, ALL GUNS are LOADED. Period. I treat them that way, and everybody else should as well. That means don't point it in a direction where you potentially don't want it to go off.

Rule #2, Regardless of safeties built on a gun, the biggest safety feature is the grey stuff BETWEEN THE EARS.

From what I can read, they have not follow these two critical rules.

Hey Auzzies, send us your women and your glocks, we'll take both!

Anybody hear of the Phila.pa cop who was putting her glock 17 into her waistband but forgot to take her finger out of the triggerguaurd??The bullet left a 5inch long 1/2 deep wound on her stomach, then intered her upper left leg and exited in the back of her thigh. They are looking into a possible safty problem with the glock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Nevermind that she was only a rookie out on the street for just 10 days!(happened the week of 4/29/00)

Actually, the Philly cop was a 4-year veteran. She was putting the Glock into her waistband WITHOUT a holster. That's not exactly the brightest thing to do with a Glock.

My cousin actually knows this woman.

HS - Actually, the hardware you mentioned is NOT banned, I say again, pumps and semis are NOT banned.

Thing is, qualifying for the licences is prohibitive.

The buybacks were for people who owned rifles for which they could not qualify licences.

My father (a farmer) has licences for anything but high-cap semis and pistols. He is in a unique situation where he could get good semi licence if he wanted; but it just costs too much. However, if you live in a city FORGET IT!!

To get a licence for even a single-shot you need to prove the EXACT place you will shoot it and THAT's IT!

But, for all intents and purposes, most weapons were banned to the general public.

Exactly! We're trying our damnedest to keep that from happening here.

Well I guess they could use some of the S&W victory models we sent over in the 40's or maybe fine some Enfield break opens. If the cops are incapable of useing modern handguns they can aways step back a couple of decades

Please note I own an example of both of the above and they work just fine. ;)

Wait, we've all heard of the tooth fairy, right? Well, perhaps there's a little "Glock Fairy" out there pulling triggers.

Actually, all these ND's can be traced to a malfunction in one part: The 'operating nut'.

Well, maybe the Aussies should have started their revolution before the semi'd were taken away, doesn't look like the would have been up against much. These "Polterglock" incedents could have been a valuable force multiplier for the rebels. That, and the fact that the Aussie army troops would have been burning their delicate fingers on the Aug gas system (see thread elsewhere on TFL).

POLTERglocks.....They're baaaaack!
