Glock vs. M&P vs. SD9

Shot a friend's M&P last week, Thursday to be exact. I didn't like the trigger, kinda mushy. Not that Glock triggers are anything great, they're not, but the Glock trigger is better than the M&P, IMHO.

M&P triggers have to be broken in to get more crisp. Both glock and M&P triggers are strictly meh to me, but after 1,000 rounds my M&P has a smooth pull with a moderately crisp release.

You want a good trigger you have to go after market for any of the pistols mentioned.

One overlooked positive for the M&P: stainless slide and barrel. Thats an issue in a humid climate, like the South.

My caveats:
First, I'm a lawyer, but I'm not your lawyer.
Second, I'm neither licensed to practice in California, nor particularly knowledgeable about the Inner Workings of the Mysterious Handgun Roster.

With all of that said, I took a look at (what appears to be) The Roster.

I see the Shield and the SD9VE, but not the "regular" M&P.

The Glock 19 is on the list.

CZ and Springfield Armory both have a decently-sized selection of handguns on the list. Walther has one 9mm on the list, but it's due to expire in February, 2015.

ETA: As noted above, I don't know a lot about The Roster. Accordingly, if anyone spots incorrect information in this post, by all means, correct me.

The m&p my gun shop has is on consignment. Consignment guns and private party transfers are roster exempt. Just goes to show how nonsensical these laws are. NO! You cant buy a new offroster gun! Its too dangerous! Let some old schmuck use it first! Then its safe!

Quite true: very annoying.

One point though: we can't have them shipped to our LGS either. We have to meet face-to-face.

And the sale can't cross state lines.

So, if you are willing to drive 800 miles, twice [effectively an 11 day wait between paperwork and pickup], to get the gun, you can have anything for sale privately anywhere in the state.

Bah!

Im honestly surprised no one has brought up a free commerce argument yet. The laws effectively restrict all transactions to people in your local area. And if you live in like Ukiah, that effectively means no one to do business with.

Yep. But it seems the state would prefer to block all commerce than end this list.

DCAEK in both a M&P 9 as well as a M&P 45....that alone is pushing $100,
I did not add the AEK for another almost $75....

Sold the 9 kept and still have the 45, again to to me neither is close to the PPQ trigger....

I'd go Glock. Hate the sights but better trigger than the M&P. I have two M&P's, one with Apex internals and the trigger still sucks compared to my XD.

It's so funny how differently people perceive trigger feel. My XDM has a complete Springer Precision match trigger in it and I still say it's not anywhere close to being as good as my M&P's. More travel, just an indistinct roll through on the break with no actual 'wall' to know when the trigger is going to break. It's smooth, sure, but that's about it.

Not challenging your opinion here, just pointing out that we have different views on what makes a trigger 'good'. :)

Ya it's all subjective. I do have two M&P's. I'll say my M&P9c has a much, much, better trigger than my M&P9 fullsize (which has the Apex parts). It's about 4 years older tho. My newer fullsize trigger was very gritty with alot of over travel, none of which my compact has.

Which is what always cracks me up about 'what should I buy' threads. That's not meant as a jibe either - it's just that if you lock five gun owners in a room, you'll have twenty opinions on what the best gun is, and none will actually be wrong.

Shot both M&P and Glock and have settled in on M&P, It fits my hand better

Very reliable

But, both choices are good

Thats the ideal right there. Each person has a personal preference. How that pistol feels to that particular person is the real factor.
