General purpose, all in one 9mm for a lefty??

Bersa Thunder 9 Pro and/or Pro UC

I have a Thunder 9 Pro UC (Ultra Compact) and I really like the gun,,,
It's absolutely reliable and is not too expensive.

It is SA/DA with decocker and exposed hammer,,,
Accepts 10 or 13 round magazines,,,
And is completely ambidextrous.

The full size pistol has the same ambidextrous attributes,,,
It's a slightly larger pistol with 17 round magazines.

There are lots of fine pistols out there that will suit a lefty,,,
These are just two I happen to like quite a bit.

My other recommendation would be a CZ-85B,,,
It's the ambidextrous version of my venerable CZ-75B.

Absolutely one of the finest 9mm pistols ever made.

Happy shopping.

I would like to throw in with the Beretta 92 series. They have the ambidextrous safety and the magazine release can be easily switched from right hand use to left hand use. Yes it is big but most double stack 9s are. Also the open slide design helps with ejection. If you need to load only one round the open slide design helps in this as well. If for some reason the trigger pull is to heavy that can be easily fixed to, just change the hammer spring. Holsters for it are available almost everywhere.

ok

aaron,

Those pistols are just too busy looking for my tastes, looks like wrenches
stuck to the side of the gun!...NOT my taste.

ok

Aaron,

You made your suggestions, I appreciate it, those are just not my taste. Im surely they are excellent, but for me, looks are important too. I love the sleek,
minimalist approach of the Glocks, M&P's and the FN FNS-9, where that controls are both small, unintrusive and recessed.

Guys, cancel carry is NOT even in the discussion for me, so lets take that out of
the discussion...in am in NJ!
This is be a firearm for range fun and doubling as home defense.

nodule I have a M&P 9, Gen 3 Glock 19, and a FNS 9. All great guns, but if you're a lefty, go with the FNS 9. It's totally ambi.

To the previous poster, hammer sa/da or Dao for second-strike. I don't know how much you shoot, or what guns you own, but I had several rounds that didn't go off, in two different guns, both DAO and both needed factory repair for light strikes. I can say 100% that since i ditched the dao's, I haven't had a round not go off in more than 10,000 rounds. This is rifle, hammer fired sa/da, revolvers and one striker(that actually does allow second strike). If your requiring frequent or ANY second strikes, you have a gun problem or a crappy ammo problem. I am just not seeing "second-strike" capability as a good sales tactic. Can anyone here tell stories of light strikes not contributed to a gun issue or bulk pack ammo? I have not seen it, even with thousands of reloads.

Hi,

I currently own two S&W revolvers and would like to purchase my first 9mm
pistol as just a general purpose, all in one 9mm for fun range use and doubling
for home defense. I am a lefty....

I....am open to other suggestions!

I am in NJ, so 15 round mag capacity for me.

Thanks!
Since you are a lefty and the pistol is not going to be used for CC, here are a few 9mm pistols from my personal experience that are completely and truly ambidextrous without having to switch anything over and have a 15 round or less capacity. Those individual listings marked with an asterisk would require you getting a model that comes with 10 round blocked magazines (list is not all-inclusive):
• Grand Power P1 Mk7 & P1 Mk12
• HK P2000, P30, & VP9
• Walther PPQ M1
• Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact & Thunder 9*
• CZ 85B*
• FNH FNS-9* & FNX-9*

Pistols with ambi slide release/lock levers, but require switching the magazine release for left-handed operation:
• Sig P250 Compact & P320 Compact
• Walther PPQ M2
• Beretta PX4 Storm Compact
• S&W M&P 9C & M&P 9*

Pistols with ambi magazine releases only:
• Ruger P85, P89, P93, P94, P95, SR9C, & SR9*/SR9E*

As I mentioned earlier, this list is not all-inclusive and I am sure that I have forgotten a few!

Light strikes are due to range ammo 99% of the time. I have never seen a light strike with a good defense, good hollow point ammo.
And after thousands of rounds, I have never had an issue with my Glocks or Sigs.
I think you will be extremely happy with a G19 Gen4. The ambidextrous concern is with guns that have many control levers (decocker, external safeties, etc). Switch the magazine release on a Glock 19 Gen4 to the other side and you are good to go.

j102,
If I did go with a Glock, it would be the Glock 17, as the 19 is just a tad to small
for my hand. However, with the G17, I would have to go with the 10 round magazine option, too bad.

G17 works too. Like you said, it depends on how it fits and feels in your hands.

I will throw a vote to the FN line, they have amby setups for a lefty. They also come with a hammer FNX or FNS for a striker fire.
