General purpose, all in one 9mm for a lefty??

Lefty..

Beretta Storms have switchable mag releases and ambidextrous safety/decockers. The wife's is set up so that the only release on the left is the slide lock.

With the rolling barrel lockup the felt recoil is the lightest 9mm I've shot that didn't have a 1911's weight.

So a 10 round magazine is an option for the G17? NOT pinned or modified??

That's a Fact; of course you never want permanently blocked mags (17rd. Mags permanently modified to accept max of 15 rds.), these can't be disassembled for cleaning or to replace a spring or follower, these are unreliable junk. Personally I'd go with a Glock 17 or even a 34 with the 10 round factory mags, if this is a range only gun. And unless you need to carry a gun to make your living, you will never get a NJ Carry Permit! This is why I commute 2-1/2 hrs. every day, from PA, through DE, and into NJ to work!

OBTW, since you already have revolvers, I assume you have your NJ Firearms ID card and you will need to get a NJ Purchase Permit for this new gun. There are several good gun shops in Bucks County PA that sell a lot of guns to Jersey residents, I can PM you with this info if you like.

The best ambidextrous pistol I own (also LH) is the HK P7. * round magazine should not be an issue in NJ. (It was once standard issue for NJ State Police)

yes

JD,

Thanks! Yes, I have my NJ ID card so I can get another permit. Fortunately, I am in a town in NJ were it only takes about 3 weeks to get a Permit! I am in
Mercer County, which is close to the PA border. There is a very popular, well respected gun shop in Bucks County call Tanner's Gun Shop. I will handle and
hold BOTH the Glock 19 Gen4 and the Glock 17 and perhaps the Sig P320 to
see which one works the best for me.

Nodule;

I sent you a PM, Tanners can certainly help you, I bought a few there, But Classic Pistol has an indoor range where you can try before you buy. In PA all you need to show is your NJ drivers license to get on their range, but you need to take a partner if you want to rent a Glock 17, 19 or that Sig P320, which are all great choices, GL!

After doing a bit my online research, I will probably look seriously at the Glock 19 Gen4 and the Sig P320 Carry, 9mm.

I prefer striker fired over hammered for first time buyer.

Those two are great choices, as well as the H&K VP9 and Sig 226. I would choose the Glock 19 as a first handgun, and go from there.

Why "nothing else"??

The order is supposed to go:

HK
Walther
Sig
Glock

Other people make firearms???!?!?!

All jokes aside, I never tell people to only buy the brands I like. As long as your not buying a $150 pistol - you're good.

Way I see it for HD, hammer fired and DA/SA or DAO. If cartridge failed to fire squeeze trigger again. A Glock and a SD9VE won't do that.

In HD every second count.

By the way, I carry the Sig P250c 40sw or HK USP 9mm FS.

They way I look at it is this. If a round doesn't go off, you better chamber a new round.

Some times the round is never going to go off with additional trigger pulls (a dud) and other times it might.

You'll waste too much time when two or three trigger pulls don't result in the round going off and then you need to perform the tap-rack-bang drill.

A valid point there but if you don't have time you'd hope to hell that it fires second time around.

With my P250 I had a couple of duds but on the seconds times they fired. When I looked at the primers they were punched deeper.

Both were Win WWB 165s.

I agree. You have to use good judgement when using a SA/DA pistol. Heck, I don't even like striker fired pistols (SA/DA for me :D) and I'd probably mash the trigger a couple of times before a tap-rack-bang drill.

Both were Win WWB 165s.

At least it didn't happen with your self-defense ammo. Some of the components that Remington and Winchester source for their UMC and WWB have such poor QC some times. It seems to gets worse when the runs on ammunition start.

I've shot tons of WWB and UMC but those two instances. Not a bad track record but a dud at a wrong time is something else.

>I am considering the Glock 19 GEN4, CZ 75 SP-01,<

I'm left handed, and my main handguns are a G19g3 and a CZpo1.

Excellent reliable guns that present no real problems for a left hand shooter.

ok

Well, IMO, if one REALLY want full proof, 100% reliability as far as home defense is concern, that a revolver is the best choice, a S&W Model 686 .357 Magnum is
a MUST have.

Even though we're talking semi-automatics here, I do think that the one must have gun is a 4 or 6 in. S&W 686, I've never seen one that didn't go bang when you pulled the trigger.
