ON FRIDAY THE FREEDOM GROUP ANNOUNCED THEY WERE SHUTTING DOWN MARLIN PRODUCTION DUE TO QUALITY ISSUES. THEY LOST THEIR KEY PRODUCTION PEOPLE WHEN THEY MOVED. ONE IS NOW AT RUGER AND THE OTHER AT COLT.

and I've searched google with no luck. Can you tell us where "elsewhere" is? Cause that's a big statement to make without any kind of proof or links on where you heard it.

ONE IS NOW AT RUGER AND THE OTHER AT COLT

Sounds strange only losing two employees. But I wouldn't trust Remington for anything or The Freedom Group. Have a feeling it's going to happen to Bushmaster also, no sooner than purchasing Bushmaster they come out with their R-15 rifle a clone of the Bushmaster Varminter, strange right. And a Remington R-1911, now whose idea was that?

The 770s were such a peice of junk (IMHO) and what no solution for the 700 triggers/safeties, I will have to start buying all my firearms from Belgian, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Czechoslovakia. Unless you want an AR, then the USA is no problem. I wonder when China will flood the market with their firearms?? We bought all their SKS, but a Chinese Bull Pump might be in my future, who knows.

Jim

Actually I like the British version

.

So you posted an unverified rumor from a discussion forum?

Something about a fax from Marlin about suspending lever gun production for the rest of the year while they try to fix their busted quality control.

So it is a fax that some guy said he got to read because he was considering buying a Marlin rifle? I guess that is a way to kill some of your gun sales. However, production is being suspended according to the supposed fax, not that Marlin is closing.

Of course, the only way to see the supposed fax is to go to the only place that apparently has any information on it, a store in another country, Ellwood Epps ( Orillia Ontario, Canada). Why is it that apparently only they have the 411?

Here is what the post at Marlin Owners Forum says if you can't read it:

was in at Ellwood Epps ( Orillia Ontario, Canada ) trying to buy a 308mx yesterday, and after going through 5 all (which were N.F.G.) a fax came in from the Freedom group that I got to read because I was trying to buy a Marlin gun. " As of Aug. 12 2011 all Marlin lever production has offically been suspended for the remaining 2011 calender year while we try to fix the production quality issue at our plant". It further went on to list ever single Marlin lever made and the serial/production numbers. I can not find this fax/letter online anywhere as of yet,but anyone who goes to Epps will notice it posted on the wall when you go down stairs into the gun room. If someone finds it by all means please post it here.

I have seen like posts on several boards from different individuals. Here is a link to Ellwood Epps website with the phone number if you care to call on Monday:

And if it is like a lot of the rumor information, the basis is like in the OP. It is just widely circulated via the internet. It will become oft repeated without direct knowledge.

Here it is on Bayou Shooter. Where is the source? How does having another vague, unconfirmed source add credibility to the claim of anything?

Even if Epps has such a flyer, who vouches for the validity of it? The memo at Epps did sound interesting, noting the suspending production and then listing for each all the marlin models and their serial numbers. Why would a fax include all the model and serial numbers when they are talking about suspending production?

Those are great questions. :)

Perhaps so dealers would know what's NOT going to be available for awhile.

Other companies have made moves like this before - when there's a production problem that they simply can't seem to get ahead of on line the line, they'll shut down that line/production of that item until they can get ahead of the curve.

If the company actually lost their two QA experts for those particular models, that's a huge loss and one that will take time to replace.

Seems plausible Mike....

Can you explain why it isn't on their web page? Instead, it's in some random fax that several people claim to have seen, but remains ever-elusive to those of us who comprise the uneducated masses...

It certainly may be true that Marlin, like other companies, may have a temporary cessation, but I still don't see why they would send out a fax inclusive of al the serial numbers of all the models of guns. Why would the serial numbers tell the dealers any more than a listing of the model numbers that won't be available? I could see where they might include a brief listing of collector's guns by serial number still available from the factory, but not listing all the serial numbers by model.

It just strikes me as odd, superfluous information to include in an announcement about a temporary suspension of production.

What we have so far is:

A supposed fax, not shown, which says that Marlin is suspending production until they can sort out their QC problems.

Which is good news in the long run, if true.

An internet rumor that Marlin is closing.

"Why would a fax include all the model and serial numbers"

Maybe it's a recall. They probably want to get them all back at once instead of one at a time from the customers the way it's been going.

How can a company screw up all of these old designs all at once and take so long to notice what they've done?
