FL: Second child shocked by Taser stun gun within weeks

The fact that someone needs more training is irrelevant when you've got a kid covered in his own blood and threatening to cut himself further.

A baton? Come on, so instead of a few self-inflicted cuts and the memory of an unpleasant Tasing the kid would have had broken bones and bruises?

You wrote that it...
...could have left the child brain dead or any number of other ailments.

I think it's rather far-fetched to speculate that a low-current electric shock could leave a child brain dead. What scientific basis, other than the lack of testing on children, do you have for that supposition?

Well since it has NEVER been tested on adolesents, only healthy adults, and 60+ lbs adult dogs, what evidence do you have that a tazer is incapable of permanant damage?

If the kid is already suffering from a mental illness, what damage is possible? Some or none?

The answer is unknown, therefore a little restraint should be shown.

Once it is proven that a taser will not harm a child with mental, physical, or drug induced condition, then I would not have a problem with a LEO using it.

So the question is, why are cops using it when there is NO SCIENTIFIC basis to prove that a taser will not cause damage to unhealthy people?

Taser International has performed the only testing, and that was on Healthy adults and dogs. The FDA does not allow drug companies to be the only ones that test thier products, however there is no oversite of Tasers or their use and effects afterwards.

IF the kid really did have a glass ready to leathaly cut himself, would a taser that involuntarily constricts muscles not be risking further injury as the 6 year old shakes uncontrolably?

The problem is there is no proof that the child would NOT be harmed from a taser. There is an unknown potential for all sorts of damage to unhealthy people from a taser. Speculation is all anyone has at this point.

Added to that Taser says it should not be used on children under 60lbs, Why? Maybe because they are not sure themselves what could happen or it could be they know more than they are letting on to, and frankly either one is enough for me to question its use.

You are speculating that under no cirumstances could the taser have harmed the child. There is no evidence either way for proof, however the 70+ deaths that the taser might have influenced are not incouraging evidence of no long lasting effects.

Using any remote stun device carried an equal or greater risk that the child may have fallen onto the glass with serious injury as being restrained and disarmed by hand.

But if I had to use anything other than my brain, coversation and hands to disarm a six year old with a piece of glass I would consider myself to have a legal mental handicap.
