Finally got my License (NYC) -- So many choices!

4 1/2 months ain't bad

I'm in Nassau county and it took a full six months to get mine. As for the purchase, I went with the P226. It felt nice and shoots nice and Sigs have a good reputation. I'm getting so into it that now I want a revolver too, having shot my bro-in-law's Ruger SP 101...:)

I totally hear you...I've only had mine about three weeks and already looking forward to #2. Problem is, I have to wait 90 days before applying for the purchase authorization, which will take another 4-6 weeks to get. Oh well, until then, i'll enjoy my 226. Love it!!

As far as NYC, I think a lot of folks from out of town are confusing a premise license with a CCW license. The premise license is not that hard to get...

With all due respect I think otherwise. You might have become used to the process, but when we compare it to what we experience when we obtain a concealed carry permit, the NYC process to get a "premise permit" is definitely HARD. It takes days or weeks to get our CC permits. I paid under $100 for a permit that you can't even think about obtaining in NYC. The mere fact that Shef waited 4 1/2 months to receive permission to buy a gun to keep in his home is preposterous to us. That Mike Armstrong had to russle up several police officers who agreed to vouch for him in order to obtain a permit is preposterous to us. The fact that it cost $500 to get a permit to keep a gun in your home is preposterous to us. Because you have to get prior approval for a particular model before buying a subsequent gun, we feel it is, dare I say at the risk of sounding redundant, preposterous to us. Thank God I live in Georgia.

Nothing like a city which allows rich celebrities, connected politicians and every two bit crook and gang member to possess a firearm concealed in public but a law abiding citizen is denied the right to carry and has to get permission to keep a gun in his house. And all of this for the low introductory price of $500 - WOW! SIGN ME UP - NOT!

Ok ok, yes, we all can laugh about this and yes, it sucks that it's so difficult and how egregious it is, but I still love NYC and will probably never move. So, I've embraced it and made the best of it....and since there usually multiple policemen on just about every corner of the city, I never feel unsafe or the need to carry.

That said, i appreciate everyone's input on the topic. I've put 850 rds through my p226 and it just keeps getting better.

Only 60 more days until i can apply for #2

Your right, I guess I should have worded it differently. What I was trying to convey is that other than the monetary expense it's really just a waiting game. Heck, I had to wait for 9 months to get my license and I'm in Long Island. You are right though, I guess it is all relative. The funny part is though, you go about an hour or more north of NYC and you can get unrestricted CCW and some counties will even give you lifetime carry.

In NYC, once you're issued a Purchase Authorization, you have 30 days to purchase your handgun. Once purchased, it needs to be brought to Police Plaza within 72 hours (not including weekends) to be inspected.
