Finally got my License (NYC) -- So many choices!

So I have 28 days to buy my handgun. I've tried a bunch so far but I'm still having a hard time deciding.

What I've tried so far:
P226 9mm
P228 9mm
P229 9mm
Glock 22
Kimber 1911
92FS
CZ75
HK USP .45
Springfield XD

I'm leaning toward a P226. It just felt really nice and balanced.

Anything else I should try before I take the plunge? I really want to try a PX4 Storm but the two closest ranges to me don't have any.

Thanks

If you like the Glock 22, then try a Glock 19 if you are interested in 9mm.

How long did it take to get the city permit? Is it a carry or target permit?

All the best,
GB

It took me 4 1/2 months so not terrible. It's a premise license.

The Glock was fine, but didn't love it. I think I just wasn't a fan of the grip...wasn't as comfortable as the Sigs or the CZ. I'm also leaning toward a 9mm for now since ammo is so cheap.

So many choices

You can't go wrong with any of those choices. Whatever one feels the best in your hand. You'll love it. Good luck and let us know.

???????

It's a premise license.

WTH is that. You need a license to keep a gun in your house\apt. ?
Kahr makes some nice guns. S&W M&P9 and the Ruger SR9.

Even the aboved mentioned pistols, I'd rather have a Sig 226, S&W5906 or a Browning High Power or the CZ75.

I know you'll never get a CCW permit in NYC, so an all steel gun would be my choice.

@SauerGrapes - yes, in NYC, you need a license to keep one in your apt/house and take it to the range Pretty much no chance of getting any kind of carry permit in NYC for me.

I wanted to like the 92FS but the double safety was a little distracting there's no decocking lever, right?

And I think you're right about the 226 :)
So now i need to think about style...my LGS has a bunch of them in stock: classic, E2, platinum elite, etc. Again, too many choices LOL

I own two Beretta 92FS pistols and have no clue as to the double safety of which you speak and both of mine, and my 92SB, certainly all have an ambidextrous decocking lever.

All the best,
GB

Come out to Scottsdale and try THEM ALL (and more) OUT!

Go with what feels best / right. I have a P229, it's the right pistol for me, but not necessarily for anyone else, each must to decide. All on your list will do you right if they feel right to you.

For all the hassle you've been through, why not get a cheap ticket to Phoenix, give one of the TFL crew's a shout and spend a weekend shooting literally scores of different pistols at Scottsdale Gun Club or some of our other fine establishments out here.

Good luck and congratulations!

From my understanding of the NYC permit system one must be well~heeled, well~connected, threatened, or some combination to get any permit. With those premises I recommend the SIG P220 SAO with a rail for the HD tools. If that cannot be had then a DA/SA P220 with rails and NS.

All those are good, or you could move to Arizona, be able to afford all of them AND be able to carry them :) Sorry to hear about where you live:barf:

Those are all excellent choices, and as was said if you like the P226 that's your answer.

So glad I live in AZ. Would never move back to NYC. It's a fun place to visit though.

Yeah, those are all definitely good choices. You actually need a permit anywhere in NY state. I used to live in the boroughs and I understand it's also ridiculously expensive to get a permit there. I can only carry on duty, and even if I ever do get a ccw, it will be good throughout all of the state...except NYC! Being as that you're not getting it to carry, I wouldn't bother with anyhting compact and go for a full sized weapon. The Kimber is nice and the USP is great, plus not a lot of people have them, so it's cool to be different. Is a revolver out of the question? Is the price a significant factor?

NYC

Then you are misinformed. It does take time - they are slow. It is much more expensive than other states that require a permit fee but as long as an applicant has a clean record (not a felon, no orders of protection, etc.), the NYPD will issue a premise permit (they did away with the old "target" permits a few years ago).
I am in charge of a private indoor range in NYC; I have known quite a few men and women who have applied for a pistol permit. No one that I know was ever refused a permit.

Shef: Like I said, I am in charge of a range. It is in Brooklyn, about a two minute walk from the Brooklyn Bridge, one block south of Atlantic Avenue. Metropolitan Rod and Gun Club. This is not a commercial operation; it is a club, so this is not a sales pitch.
PM me if you would like more info.
About your gun choice.....what are you going to do with the gun? Mostly what?
By far the most popular guns that I see fellows shoot are Glocks. The other gun types show up but Glocks are the number one choice for most of the shooters that I see. That is not an endorsement, just an observation.
Me, I like 1911s. Colt, Springfield Armory, Rock Island.

The whole NYC permit procedure sounds like a PITA. That, on top of living in that asphalt jungle seems to constitute 'cruel and unusual' to me.

No wonder my home state of NC is filling up with NY'ers - I don't blame'em.
