Feeling "gun poor"...long term buying slump

Due to long term buying slump, brought on partially because of the high cost of the x-mas/vacation season (funds can only go so far) and partially to the fact I cannot find a gun that interests me lately, I am starting to feel very "gun poor." I have not had a new gun to shoot or show in quite awhile and I do not see one in the near future.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Unfortunately so. As you said, funds can only go so far. I think you know you have a problem when you're starting to sell plasma to support your habit.

Ask me how I know.

I recommend searching your safe for a few of the long neglected old timers and dusting them off for a fresh range report. A few of us haven't been around long enough to see ALL your guns. You might even rekindle an old romance with one of them.

I would be at the range today but we have over 12" of snow in our yard and a good 8" packed on the roads.

No, not really. Handguns? Yes. I'm now on a long term hiatus from handgun buying, at least until after the political and financial winds change. But I've got a NIB Marlin 336 all wrapped up for me under the tree right now.

Snow? What's that? Oh, wait a minute, SWMBO told me about it -- it's that white fluffy stuff that falls from the sky when it's cold, right? ;):D

no money for guns cause the bike biz stinks in december, but i got 25 for a box of 100 so i went to the range as usual and realized after the 8th or 8th shot that my trigger finger was numb. it was 7 degrees.

shot about 40 more cause i was there and got off cheap. but the skills can still use practice so im happy to be able to keep up that end.

You warm weather people are funny.

If that stopped NY'ers we'd be home 6 months out of the year!
I am from WV so I know as much about bad weather as anyone. The biggest difference here is they do not plow the roads or salt them. Right now you cannot even see the roads where I live. :)

I was in a slump too, for a while. And then up jumped the Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter .45 LC that I had been looking for. So, for now, the slump is over.

By the way, "gun poor" you ain't!!

You gonna let a little snow stop ya?

Definitely in a slump due to "funding problems". Have my eye on a couple different guns - M1 carbine for one - but don't see one coming home for at least a couple months....

Maybe I haven't caught "the bug" yet but I'm always amazed by the number of guns many of you guys actually do own. I love to shoot but I don't see myself ever owning 3, 4, 5 examples of, say, .40S&W handguns. I'm more of a 1 per caliber/variation kind of guy, although, with the 40 as an example, I don't see myself owning ANY. I only see myself (at this point) with maybe 3 or 4 handguns total, regardless of funding. I've got my Glock 33, well someday I'll have it. I want a compact-ish 10mm, probably Dan Wesson CBOB. I'll get a hunting gun, like the Taurus Raging Bull in .41mag or maybe a S&W .460. After that, I don't predict I'll have much hankering for more. Although I bet there's guys out there that have 50 guns that said the same thing...;)

Unfortunately, I have found the next gun I want(XD40 subcompact). Just no funds to purchase. Then maybe a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2. Lots of dreams...just low fundage due to the holidays!

Not really feeling gun poor but definitely handgun poor. Haven't bought a handgun in awhile. Mostly because there isn't much out there that interests me at the moment. I've got all my needs met with guns I already own and no real wants for anything out there at the moment.

I have been buying ammo lately and have just put optics on my AR. Also picked up another 870 a few weeks ago (like I needed another one, but oh well.......).

I did pick up a crimson trace lasergrip for my LCP last week. Impulse purchase while at the local shop. The LCP is away for recall work at the moment so a range report will have to wait for it to return.

I understand - its Xmas after all - and nothing new and special to play with is kind of a bad feeling .... 18" of snow at my place this week too / its getting to be a pain in the --- / but we'll survive it probably.

The real problem I have, like you probably, is there are only a few things left on the wish list - and they don't pop up every day .....like a:

Sig X-Five in 9mm:
( I know where there's a new one for $ 2,375 but I'd prefer used at $ 1750 maybe ..). I have one in .40 ....so its not like I'm going without.

Wilson Combat - 5" - all stainless:
always on the lookout for another one ....a guy can't have too many...

A S&W model 27 Nickel 4" :
I have a 5" and 6" blued ....so not whining too much ....

But sometimes its more fun to search, and wander around the local shops, than it is to actually buy anything ...

PBP: You not in Portland anymore? I can't remember a time living anywhere in the coastal PNW that got a foot of snow that wasn't up about 3000+ feet on the side of some bigazz mountain.

I only bought three guns since last Christmas, far below average. Oh well, becoming a student again will do that, I guess.

Got some nice ones, though. Colt WWI repro 1911 (Wildalaska rulez), a MN 91/30 in obscenely nice condition, and a Seecamp.

There are plenty more I would have bought if I had the cash, so motivation is not the problem. It's just a matter of cashola.

Hrmm, so you can't exactly run to the gun store anyway now can ya :D

Still I understand. I've got a couple of guns in my head right now but the funds won't show up until sometime in Jan/Feb.

Why is this a problem, PBP?

It means that you have everything you want. Maybe even MORE than you want.

My advice is this: Pick one or two of your favorite handguns, and send them out to a gunsmith to have their actions smoothed up. Make some of your favorites even better. If you have to, sell one or two of your less favorites to make it happen.

I don't recall you having any target revolvers; those are rewarding to shoot.

Also, I don't believe you reload. That is a GREAT supplemental hobby to shooting, and pretty fun on its own.

PBP and 'guns poor'.

Two words/statements that will NEVER go together!

LOL.

Come on Man!

Go out there and shoot some of those many sublime guns you own!

Give us some fresh range reports!:D
