FBI Standard Issue - What is your final answer?

And yet another first-time texter rips a 10-year-old thread out of the grave...

There, I fixed this for you :D

Really, don't we expect some modicum of keyboard talent and grammar savyness from our forum participants?

Anyhoo, Tom Servo had it just right in defining the success of the .40 S&W:

The ultimate driver behind the .40 S&W loading was that it could be chambered in a gun with a smaller frame.

Do the FBI agents get trained well enough to avoid the loud mistakes other LEO agencies seem to have, when pulling the trigger to field-strip the Glock? :D

Guns of the B & other sworn LE sidearms....

I read over a few TFL posts and all I can say is; huh? Who? Wha? How did that? Etc. Etc. :(
I honestly do not know where to start but to my understanding, the FBI & DoJ(Justice dept) have a fairly lax sidearm SOP(standard policy).
This is due to class action lawsuits & civil actions in the early 2000s. ;)
The FBI special agents & 083 FBI police(yes the FBI has it's own uniformed police force) use the Glock 22 & 23 .40S&W.
Many sworn FBI agents pack 1911a1 .45acp pistols or SIGs or S&W revolvers too but not in huge #s.
Retired FBI "profile" expert John Douglas wrote in his non fiction book that his daily carry sidearm was a 2.5" barrel Smith & Wesson model 19 .357magnum for around 19.5 years.
The elite HRT started with the Hi-Power 9mm(custom by VT pistolsmith Karl Sokal) but they switched to factory produced, custom enhanced 1911a1 .45acp pistols. Pistolsmith Les Baer provided sidearms to SWAT & HRT agents but he couldn't maintain the strict DoJ contract standards.
The "INS" was disbanded about 8 years ago. The ICE & CBP sworn agents now use the HK P2000 LEM .40 or SIG P229Rs DAK format in .40S&W.
The 96D is no longer in regular production by Beretta USA either.

ps: The Florida Highway Patrol converted to the Glock .45GAP models but have been reporting serious problems with them. Beretta .40s were in use but I think Glock corrected the FHP problems. Author & sworn LE officer Massad Ayoob wrote a detailed item about Glocks & the FHP's sidearm T&E.
