Favorite EDC 9mm

My first carry gun was a ruger sr9c (roughly same size as the glock 26) I found if I could conceal it then I could conceal a glock 19. So now my 2 carry guns are a glock 19 and a smith and wesson shield. The shield is in the holster 95% of the time at this point but the 19 served as my only carry gun for over a year (only had my concealed permit for 2 years) and I absolutely loved carrying it. I used an Aliengear cloak tuck 2.0 and a 511 belt.

Glockomatic, to answer your question, CZ ergonomics are incredible, and I have always liked them for that. After Cajun Gun Works got done with the trigger, it was incredible.
Second favorite? :)

CZ SP-01 Phantom.

Yes, I EDC full size duty sidearms. I make the wardrobe "sacrifices" to do so - I'm fat and old, so nobody cares what I dress like/look like. :)

OP changing course of thread a bit... 19 vs 19C for carry

Thank you all for your input so far, it has helped immensely... I think what I'm gathering is that the 19 is a dream to carry (along with plenty of other non-Glocks... I just can't bring myself to stray from what I know and love)... So I may hold off on getting the 26 and just use one of my Glock 19's, which brings me to my next question...

I own both a Glock 19 and 19C and I shoot my 19C A LOT better than my non-compensated (accuracy and follow up shots), and I've always wanted to carry it concealed, but I've heard from gun stores and other people that the flash that comes from the ported barrel is likely to blind you if you must use your sidearm in a night time firefight and that you should not use a ported barrel as your EDC... Is this true? Has anyone else heard this, or have any real world insight?

Thanks in advanced!

Stay safe out there!

P.s. feel free to still post your favorite EDC

I don't have a clue about ported barrels.

As far as carrying a G19, . . . Yes, it carries very well. That said, it's in a very crowded field. There are a boatload of 9mm pistols in the ~4ish" barrel, polymer-framed, 12-15-round class. Glock, CZ, S&W, Ruger, SA, . . . the list goes on and on.

26 or 19 depending on mood. If it's OWB carry with a concealment garment, either works.

The 43 is tempting but I got the others. I do have 42 for my BUG.

For me it is either a Glock 19 or an HK P2000 which frankly is basically a hammer fired Glock 19 :)

I recently picked up a Walther PPS and even though it's really for carrying those odd times the bigger ones don't work which is rare I love the little thing. Very enjoyable to shoot.

Ported vs not I would go with the non ported version. I know its a small chance of happening but there is always a possibility of debris gathering in the gun through the opening, For the most part this isn't a problem but my glock 19 was gathering so much lent I had to get a plug for the grip. that experience alone would keep me from carrying a ported model. Now to the advise about shooting it at night... no clue on that hah.

Ported guns? Range only.

Sorry, they're not meant for defense. "Statistically" we are more likely to get into an altercation at night. You don't need that extra flash blinding you.
Also, try shooting that from retention and keeping your eyebrows. :D

I don't enjoy glocks like most of you all. I know I'm a bit late and he op already decided on glock, but my favorite carry 9mm is definitely the Walther PPS.

M&P9 & M&P9C

I switched from Third Gen S&Ws to M&Ps because I wanted the same trigger pull every time and I didn't want a safety (No SAOs).

I went with M&P over Glock because I have never had a handgun fit my hang so well as an M&P and because I prefer to buy American where possible

I went 9C over Shield (as I would go Glock 26 over 43) because of magazine compatablity between the 9C and FS.

Why is that your favorite? - I'm giving you a chance to sway me from Glock

Ok, here's may main dislikes about glocks and the alternative with the PPS.
- How the glock magazines feel while seated. That tiny bit of space makes me feel like it's not seated all the way. PPS magazines are completely flush. Plus you have 3 size options so you can choose what works best for you (6, 7, or 8 round mags + 1 in the pipe [single stack pistol]). Plus I like the magazine release on the trigger guard.
- Slide release. I don't like the stubby glock slide release. The PPS is also minimized but it remains very usable for me.
- sights. I don't like the factory glock sights with the "put the drop in the bucket" style. I know you can swap sights (probably easily) but I've never modified any of my pistols. They're all factory setup. The PPS sights are an easy 3 dot style which pick up incredibly well and provide very accurate shooting.
- Trigger. This one I don't have much to say about the glock. It's been awhile since I've pulled the trigger on one (with the exception of a friend's glock who just had a trigger job done), but with the PPS I can say the trigger is superb. Compared to my XD the PPS is waaaay better. Very crisp, clean break, and I can accurately hit at 25 yards (that's the farthest back at my usual range) despite being a subcompact.
- User interface. Very similar to the glock. No extra safety gimmicks (except the PPS won't fire with the backstrap off which doesn't bother me), and easy take down and field strip - perhaps easier than the glock in my humble opinion.

The one disadvantage to the PPS is of you're looking for a double stack carry pistol. That's what I was looking for when I got my XD mod 2, but I really only carry the PPS now. I'd rather be able to hit what I need with only 7+1 and maybe a 8 round back up mag then rely on my XD mod which I have trouble with right now.

Hopefully this answers your question. :D If you get a chance to handle one I definitely recommend checking it out. And keep in mind every one is different. If you already love glocks then maybe that is the right answer for you.

Cheers!

Thank you for this incredibly detailed description, I am going to the range today after work and will check out one of these guys (maybe even try one out, if they have one available)... I'll have my phone handy to check all of the things you listed...

I'll keep you posted as to how I feel about it, but like you said, Glock might just be my gun... Who knows? Crazy things have happened.

Thanks again!

My normal EDC gun is a G19. When summer goes into triple digit temps and short and t-shirts are the norm, i switch to a G26.

It just prints less with the shorter grip and minimal clothing of summertime. I do have a G43 just incase i need deeper concealment or going into a NPE event.

The true advantage of the 26 is the ability to use the larger mags from the 19/17 series.

I thought I'd throw in my thoughts on the matter just to keep the discussion going. I personally can't fall in love with the glocks. I thought long and hard about getting them instead of my M&P's. Especially because locally I can get blue label glocks far cheaper than the best price on M&P's. The ergos, sights, and cosmetics were all worth another $100 to me though with the M&P's. I will say though that the M&P9c doesn't really compete well with the G19 (stock form) and if I had to live with one gun it would be a G19. But I have had a lot of disposable income prior to buying my new pickup. I'd vote for the G19 but i'd also definitely give a M&P9c a good hard look too.

My system has a few guns in the rotation. For days when I'm in my pj's around the house or going out in athletic shorts I wear my Shield 9mm in a white hat holster and tie the waist band strings. It's amazingly effective if you use at least one ulti-clip on the holster. Most days though I wear jeans and carry either the M&P9c or my 686+ 5" revolver. The revolver is the heaviest biggest ccw gun I own but carried IWB in a sourdough pancake holster it carries better than my M&P9c. For reference I'm 6'2" 270lb's and wear a 40inch waist to accommodate IWB. I can see shorter lankier folks struggling with bigger guns.

Also yesterday I was carrying my fullsize M&P9 just because, really anyting works with a nice lightweight button up shirt over it. I highly recommend Duluth Trading Co shirts. I have a few that are plenty light to wear over the gun unbuttoned even in triple digit temps.

Hi all!

I currently carry my Glock 43 as my daily carry, thinking of carrying my Glock 19 or going out and buying a Glock 26... Any opinions? - doesn't HAVE to be Glock, but as you can tell by my signature, I'm a Glock fanatic.

Thanks in advance!

If you WANT to try an XD SC in 9mm...I love mine and it has a slightly higher weight to it then a comparable size lock which I actually prefer.
