So I hadn't been in the Evil Pawn Shop (EPS) for a week or so,,,
Yesterday evening I decided to drop by after work,,,
Just to peruse the shelves and say hello.

It was just a few minutes before closing time,,,
EPS Guy said just look at the far counter top shelf,,,
The theme from Jaws started playing in my head as I walked there.

He knows what kinds of guns I like that's for sure,,,
There it was, a S&W Model 36 with square butt and 3" barrel.

I've never seen a 3" Model 36 with square butt grips before,,,
I know they aren't particularly rare but round are more common,,,
The grips are mother of pearl so I can be a George Patton Louisiana pimp. :p

The finish isn't all that bad,,,
A bit of blue wear from riding in a holster,,,
The frame on the right side could use a bit of TLC for one scuff mark.

The cylinder locks up nice and tight,,,
And the barrel/rifling is very clean and shiny,,,
It's apparent the gun has seen plenty of range time,,,
But it is in no way beat-up so I'm confident it should shoot nicely.

He is asking $329 for the little thing,,,
In keeping with my "no impulse buying" resolution,,,
And because it was closing time and he needed to get his kids,,,
I told him I would come to his EPS today on my lunch and make a decision.

I'll have time to give it a very good inspection at noon,,,
If it checks out I think I'll go ahead and buy it.

I don't think $329.00 is a bad price at all,,,
It will be perfect for a gunbelt/holster project I have in mind.

Curse him and his Evil Pawn Shop,,,
It looks like he got me again. ;)

P.S. Pics to come after lunch.

$329 is an EXCELLENT price for a square butt 3" Model 36.

I had a nickle plated one once some years ago, but I couldn't stand the nickle and ended up selling it to a friend's father.

Okay okay,,,

We all know I'm going to buy it,,, :p
Barring something completely unexpected,,,
Like the cylinder falling out or the hammer breaking off.

I've been looking for a decent revolver for a leather project I have in mind,,,
I want to build a gunbelt, speed-loader pouch, carry holster, and a barbecue holster,,,
Then encase the gun & accessories in some kind of nice wooden box or decorative wicker case.

I think this little girl will be perfect for that project,,,
I had been thinking about one of those Model 10's that Bud's has,,,
But I think the 3" Model 36 will be a much more elegant set than the Model 10.

Thanks for all the "enablement" my friends,,,
I knew I could count on you to help me make right the decision.

Mr evil strikes again...

well at least it was in the case this time...
but you saved him a phone call to you..

instead of when you come in and he reaches behind the counter and hands you one..

like a 65-5 3" ladysmith, or a 60-8 ladysmith..(pre lock of course)
or a pre 14 or pre 17..or..or..or..

when that happens, not only is it evil, but psychic as well..LOL

well the ammo and speedloaders are easy to find in the range bag..at least:)

^^ Yah. Before and after; don't wait for the project to show us the before.

Happened to me on Saturday. Was a Marlin .357mag at a 'steal me' price.

You're the only guy around on here Aarond...that makes me laugh every time on this stuff....

If I were you ....I'd just buy the darn shop ....and quit messing around ....:D

( every lonely revolver needs a home .... sniff, sniff,....) ...

Hello BigJimP,,,

You're the only guy around on here Aarond...that makes me laugh every time on this stuff....

A higher compliment I could not have hoped for. :)

As my southern friend Hershel used to say, "If you hang out very long in a barber shop, you will end up with a hair cut", or when the mood struck him, "If you hang out in a 'house of ill repute' you will end up getting..." I never figured either one was a bad thing.:D Sounds like you feel the same way about classic revolvers.:o

Hello K_Mac,,,

Sounds like you feel the same way about classic revolvers.

I do have a weakness for J-frame and K-frame S&W's,,,
There's just something about them that twangs my heart strings.

As much as I like to blame the Evil Pawn Shop Guy,,,
It is exactly like your uncle stated,,,
I could just stay out of there.

BUt where would be the fun in that? ;)

I'm off to see the liz,,, eerrr,,, EPS Guy,,,
Pics in an hour or so.

If he ever falls in love with an N frame.... there will just be a big puddle of tears in here.......

J and K frames ...are just starter sets.... :D

My youngest Daughter's favorite CCW is a 3" Model 37 Airweight .38, that she glommed off me when she moved out on her own about 15 years ago.

JMO, but not too shabby a choice, for ANYONE........

I had a friend that loved nickle plated Smiths... He had not one, but TWO of nearly all the current models.
I asked him, what in the world are you gonna do with TWO nickle plated model 29's?

He said.... "get me a double holster"...

You must mean two ..in each barrel length available for model 29's don't you ???

A man can't live with just one Nickel model 29 ...or model 27 ..or model 19 ...for that matter...:D

maybe just one in 4", one in 6" and one in 8 3/8" ....ok...

The purchase and pics have happened,,,

If I've ever said anything truly bad about the EPS Guy,,,
I hereby take it all back as of now.

In the cold light of day there were more cosmetic flaws than I noticed yesterday evening.

That scuff on the right side is more pronounced than I remembered,,,
I'll clean it real good and see what a bit of cold blue can do.

EPS Guy wanted $329.00 for the gun so with tax it would be $357.78,,,
I handed him my credit card and started filling out the 4473,,,
I signed the credit card slip without looking at it.

As I was leaving I glanced at the sales slip and it read $300.00 even,,,
I never asked for a discount past the 40% I always joke about,,,
Without telling me, he charged me $275.86 + $24.14 tax,,,
$300.00 out the door for a shooter grade Model 36.

I went back and thanked him profusely,,,
I wasn't expecting that at all.

He's definitely getting another Christmas ham from me. :D

He may be the Evil Pawn Shop Guy,,,
But he's got my business for as long as I'm buying guns.
