What I am asking is if you have ever allowed yourself to be scared off from trying out a firearm you would otherwise be attracted to simply because of negative posts on the internet that turned out to be pure baloney?
Such as, have you never tried a Glock because of the "kaboom" threads? Have you never tried a Beretta M9 because of the barrel cracking threads? Have you never tried a S&W revolver because of the IL failure threads? Etc.
I have recently been guilty of this very thing. I have been a fan of Kahr's all steel pistols for quite some time but I have stayed away from the polymer ones because of stories I saw on the internet. These are guns I would normally be drawn to because of the small profile, stainless slides, and attractive styling.
When I started really looking at the posts and putting the pieces together it became very clear that this was a case of a few old stories of isolated incidents with older models being told, retold, and retold again. Usually the recent stories were being retold by people that have never even held a Kahr but were still repeating the information as if it was first hand gospel. Even the reports of extended break in periods do not hold up under scrutiny.
After finally doing the math and deciding to try the gun out for myself, I found that it is a fantastic gun. The quality is very good and performance has been flawless out of the box. Which is much more in line with what I see on the forums from actual confirmed owners. Unfortunately, I wasted a lot of money on guns that I would not have bought had I already owned the Kahr version first.
