End to ALL caliber wars!!!

A local kid here in Athens died very recently from a pellet to the temple.

Yet that Arizona congresswoman survived a bullet through the brain, as have many others. I'm not trying to prove any point except that it's strange how people can survive horrific wounds sometimes, and sometimes just the littlest thing kills someone.

Not to be a party pooper, but even .177 pellet/BB guns aren't toys, and... you'll put your eye out kid! :D

I want to say some politically incorrect observations; but will refrain.
That guy nearly suffered from terminal stupidity.

I just saw this thread... Wow. This again? I have two things to say:

1)The bumblebee is too stupid to know it can't fly, so it does. Like the bumblebee, I try to be too stupid to know my .22 lr NAA black Widow won't take down my target. I figure the dumber I am, the deader they are. Shhhhhhhh... Don't tell the bad guys .22's don't kill, okay?

2) I figure if every law abiding citizen in America carried no less than a single shot .25 with them, 99% of violent crime in the US would end rather abruptly, politeness would take off and life would be better for all. What would we do with all the money spent on prisons? How bout upgrade all law abiding citizens to two shot derringers?

I am not saying that caliber doesn't make a difference (.50 cals rule), but come on. Grab your guns (whatever you have), carry all the time and help take a bite outta crime!

Shot placement indeed...

A cosmic ray containing a subatomic particle hits a replicating DNA strand in your body...and voilà, you die of cancer ten years later.

It would be a disgrace to loose the caliber war threads. So many folks would have nothing to post about.

this will stop alot of bs with the caliber war... If you were in a life or death situation and didn't have any weapon with you I can bet my bottom dollar that your sons bb gun will be like a glass of water in the desert.. I read someones post a while back saying my .22 in my pocket is better than your .45 left at home..

Just imagine, 29 post's about nothing. And I contributed two (including this one) myself. Think how many post's we could generate on a subject that is meaningful.

Now hitting the un-subscribe button.:)

That settles it. I am getting rid of my 30-06 and 45-70, my 357 and 454. From now on, I am hunting everything with a 22. Just think of how much money I will save on ammo.

It was an interesting story people.

Why is everyone getting a butt sore about me posting it?

Did I say "let's all carry .177!!!" no....

People bitch and complain 24/7 about

9mm won't do it....380 won't do it. blah blah blah...

So I post something that happened locally and this is what it's generating?

All I said is shot placement DOES matter and this pellet gun did this so what makes anyone think a 9mm or whatever is inadequate???

Slick remarks just prove your lack for better words and shows you have nothing better to do than sit and complain about something you don't have to sit and complain about.

Move on. Just trying to share a story

I have a .22 caliber pellet rifle that will blow a .177 rifle away. If I just hit a rabbit in the toe with my .22 pellet rifle he will keel over dead.........try that with a tiny weak .177 pellet.

Yeah, but for the zombie rabbits you need a .20

@ jephthai

This seems a far cry from proving that "It is all about shot placement," as you said in your post, Mercenary. It seems very clearly to be saying that given adequate penetration, a larger caliber round and heavier bullet are better. This would suggest to me that a 45ACP will be better than a 9MM if they both penetrate adequately. Am I missing something?

I never said that the 45 wasn't superior to the 9mm in terms of bullet diameter. I simply stated that knowdown power, kinetic energy, and other such "factors" were not relevant.

So I should rephrase my statment and say that shot placement is key in addition to a large bullet diameter or good expanding bullet which will give you a better chance of striking a vital organ than that of a smaller caliber. However, a hit with a 22 is better than a miss with a 45.
