Just my $0.02 on the original topic.

The Democrats are wasting a lot of effort trying to make Bush look bad. As long as the Democrats are in the fray, the Republicans can reasonably say it's just a lot of political rhetoric. If the Democrats were silent, the infighting among the Republicans would paint a stark and IMO more damaging picture.
 
Republican party

The Republican party was humming along nicely until it was hijacked by anti-intellectuals. Most sane people want lower taxes, increased personal responsibility, and scientific research.

When ignorance or religion as a cloak to cover for ignorance replaces realpolitik what you get is what we have now.
