There's options other than actually wearing it, if that is disagreeable.
Like having it in a nondescript type of case or container and keeping it with you.
Then it's about as handy as having it in a holster on a belt.
Go to the bathroom and lay it on the floor.
Make dinner and have it on the counter.
It can then be accessible to others in the household, without an intruder necessarily even noticing you have a gun.
And you're less likely to scare the neighbor at the front door, who is returning your drill or bringing a generous piece of cheesecake.
