dual wielding, why?

i know its in every movie, people think its cool, and i hear people saying theyll buy two m9s to dual. or 2 tec 9s. i think its stupid. waste of ammo and inaccurate. people i talk to say they think firing 2 rounds in a bad guys general direction is better than 1 aimed round. Whats next, quad-wielding 2 single stack autos in each hand? does dual wielding serve any purpose at all?

You get cool factor +2 per extra gun carries and another +3 if you use more than one at a time.

I suppose if I has a pile of cash to blow I would buy 2 matching guns and play Boondocks Saints at the range, Tactically useless, but it could be fun.

Dont get me wrong I love movies, my 400+ dvd collection attests to that. However the point of movies is to entertain and show us measly humans things we shouldn't, couldn't or wouldn't do sensibly in real life to keep us entertained. They have the ability to redo a scene a hundred times if need be to show something being done right. I would bet that 9 times out of 10 if it was tried in real life one would be lucky to get both shots anywhere near the target.

I would have to say that being fired upon one would only notice shots if they hit thier target. Otherwise with guns going off in both directions i hardly think the BG would care about "warning" shots. This train of thought just annoys me, especially since with modern semi-autos the second shot is milliseconds behind the first anyway, and if aimed...you just took two to the body and...uh are now hurt and bleeding. Its the same general theory about locking your car or home...it only keeps the honest people out. Someone intent on doing damage isnt going to be stopped by a locked door.

I shoot just as well either handed. I have not done it with auto loaders, but I have competed with 2 single action revolvers in cowboy action shooting.
One in each hand. I am just as good with one gun in each hand as most are with their single hand.
Now to be fair, we don't shoot both at the same time. It is alternating fire.

Just saying don't dismiss something because you can't do it.

For the most part it's Hollywood dramatic effect.

I will say that just for fun I've walked a plastic bottle around an outdoor shooting range with simultaneous fire from a pair of CZ-52 pistols before. :D

I also did the same with a pair of SIG 229 pistols but the hit-to-miss ratio was not good.

Hell, if I had the money, I'd be at the range in the getup Neo used in the bank lobby in the first Matrix movie.

Grab two guns, shoot until they're empty and then just drop them and grab 2 more.

Hell, it would be a fun way to kill some time at the range. (And waste a lot of ammo)

But other than fun, I can't see any other reason why.

i do not take tactical advice from these people, at all. I do take advice from reliable sources, like my friends dad who was a gunners mate 20 years or a policeman i know who qualifys expert and did srt a while, but my schools mall ninjas, well im glad they cant afford guns

Shooting, and loading with both hands seems to be a much neglected area of firearms, and their instruction.

If you go through the FBI shooting with Platt, the number of arm and HAND injuries is eye opening.

I'd like to see more conclusive numbers concerning SD shootings, but, at least for LEO, dual hands is vital to their ability to survive.

You have no idea how long I've waited for an appropriate place for this picture.
