Down to Essentials

Perhaps its just the target audience, but I see most folks here picking two guns suitable for carry and personal defense.

If you are limited to just two guns, one of each (a silly game, but I am playing, ;)) why choose both of them to do the same job?

That's why I chose my Contender (and its full barrel kit), I have barrels ranging from .22LR to .45-70, so I have all my possible hunting needs covered.

From my collection, I could have chosen a Colt Agent .38Spl (pocket gun, revolver) and a Desert Eagle semi auto although that would leave me a little short in the small game gun dept. :D

Play on!

Well, i chose the cco 1911 for ccw. I chose the s&w 19 for its better field carry and hunting characteristics. Maybe i should change the 19 to a Ruger Blackhawk Bisley to be better in the field.

I'll play, although I do not understand the term or context of 'beyond my control'.

Only ones' health comes to mind.

Colt 4" Model 357 and a 6" Woodsman Match Target.

Plenty of power with the Colt magnum if needed, as well as comfortable target loads.
Two loads for the 357.
Lyman's 358495 with 3 grs. of Bullseye in .38 Spec. cases and
Lyman's 358156 GC- seated out to the rear crimp groove - with 13.5 grs. of 2400 loaded in .38 special cases.
Both loads print within an inch of each other at 25 yds.

The Woodsman is a very accurate pistol
I can take out wandering for the day and carry
300 rds. or so without it being a burden.

Not knowing the context in which this game takes place makes it tough. So... I'd probably play it safe and say:

My 44 mag ruger alaskan
My 22 ruger Mark III

I can defend or hunt just about anything with the alaskan (I'm actually not any more accurate with my 4" redhawk). The Mark III can hunt small opportunistic foods and can defend in a pinch. Lastly, both of these are about as durable/reliable as can be made.

Just essentials, probably sell what I have and buy a P229 with the newer ergonomics because they feel wonderful and put one of those new slim SureFire lights on it and some SIGLite sights with the SRT. That's about as perfect as I can think of for a do-all pistol for my tastes.

As far as a revolver goes, I'm not much of a fan of them, but probably a S&W 586 in 4" because I like it and I like the versatility of a .357/.38.

With that said, I would rather have 2 autoloaders than an auto and a revolver. I don't consider a revolver an essential. I like to keep a 9mm and a .45 for ammo choices.

I would take a Ruger target MKII and so that I can shoot just about anything I can find, a Medussa M-47 revolver.

ok forget beyond your control circumstances. What I meant was if you had to keep only 2 which ones would you keep. it is like if you had hoarded(may be wrong choice of word) plenty of guns and you wanted only 2 out of them which one would you want.

Oh....of the one's I've got now?

My Smith & Wesson Model 69, 44 Special/44 magnum...I reload, so ammo's not a problem. Second choice would be my Model 28, 357.

For a semi-auto, I really don't care. Probably the Ruger LC9s I just got. About the only thing I use a semi for would be concealed carry. The Ruger is just fine for that. I reload 9mm also and got a bucket full of brass.

Second choice would be my Glock 17, but that's my only other choice.

It's a tough call. It means that I would need one to carry, and one to shoot.

If I decided to carry the revolver, a Ruger LCR or J frame, and a full sized 9mm to shoot. Or maybe a full sized .357.

Or, I could carry a Kahr MK9 (because I already have one), and a full sized 9mm to shoot. Or maybe a full sized .357 magnum.

A .22 is out because the ammo situation is somehow still stupid. A conversion kit for the full sized 9mm might be a possibility if the .22 situation became reasonable.

I hardly ever participate in these "if you could only have one..." threads because the mere thought of only one causes me extreme anxiety and sadness. I am now compelled to seek intensive beerapy to aid in my recovery process.

From my present stable: an EAA .357 four inch barrel and a SIG p210 6 9mm.

One inexpensive, one expensive, but both well built, reliable and accurate.

How bout we get to keep 11 of each? I think that would be better. No way I could pick 2.

Ok ok. Revolver SW 27-2 nickel. 4"

Auto: SIG P227

Edit: oops I already answered this last week. And the auto already changed

I've thought about what two guns I could limit myself to despite the fact that I have several. My handgun priority is self defense so with that in mind:

4 1/4" LW 1911 and my S&W 642.

It's interesting because while I have the 642, I don't even own a 1911 (for now).
