What 1 revolver and 1 pistol would you want to have if circumstances beyond your control necessitated you to have only 1 in each?

357 magnum, preferably 4" Model 66 (I'd rather a 19 but I prefer not to beat one up and I've shot one enough that I started getting flame cuts). For a pistol a 9mm, again 4" or close to and in my case either a Glock 19 or a CZ P-01.

That depends...........

What is the climate (reds availability of ammo)?

I want whatever I can get ammo/components for, preferably a 357 Mag in 4-6" and a .45 ACP..........

Well... 38/357 are very commonly available, and so is 9mm.

Seems logical to stick to those...

A Ruger GP100 or SWFA 686 in 4 in configuration would be good for a revolver.

I'm not the biggest fan of Glock, but the G19 is a great overall size, if concealed carry was a concern... I would want something around that size.

If not, a full size 9mm is fine... and it's hard to pick between my M&P and VP9 for my current favorite striker pistol.

Though my FNS seems to be designed in a way as to be more simple and less likely to have issues long term should maintenance be more difficult. Almost as simple as a glock.

What circumstances are we talking here, to keep our available pistols to only 2? That really affects how I go about these hypothetical questions.

Noticed you've been asking a lot of general questions. Are you looking for your first gun?

If so, a question to ask yourself might be what the purpose of the gun will be and then narrow it from there. Don't mean to assume, just trying to be helpful.

I think you'll end up finding there is no one gun that does everything well. And ultimately that's why gun owners tend to own several guns. :)

In my case, probably my S&W Model 65 and my CZ 75 PCR. Both are adequate for HD or CC, and both can be used by either my wife or I.

Ruger GP100 or older no lock Smith Model 13 and a Beretta 92GSD or Wilson/Beretta 92 BrigTac

I wouldn't like losing all the rest but an excellent .357/.38 and an excellent 9mm would cover my handgun bases well.

Only 1 of each???
Revolver?

I would probably keep my 6" Model 28.

Pistol?
easy, my one of my T/C Contender frames and the 9 other caliber barrels I already have. :D

A revolver is a pistol and a pistol can be a revolver.

Revolver pistol, S&W mod 65 .357.

Semi-auto pistol, S&W mod 1026 10mm.

Assuming this is for a zombie apocalypse this combo will work perfectly :)

4" Colt Python in .357 Magnum and 5 speed loaders all loaded with Hornady Critical Duty in the heaviest bullet weight I could find.

S&W M&P 9 Compact and 5 spare mags loaded with Hornady Critical Duty in the heaviest bullet weight I could find.

I have only one of each, a Freedom Arms model 97 small frame 4" 357 and a HK45C. I used to have more, but I like the simplicity of 2 guns, 2 calibers.

If I could do it over I might go with a pre-lock 686 instead of the F/A just for the increased versatility of a DA revo, and go with a longer barrel (6") for target shooting and for getting the most out of the 357.

The HK45C is just right, small and light enough to conceal, big enough for fun target shooting, 100% reliable so far (2 years).

I would like to add a rimfire, maybe a Buckmark.

If I could only have 1 revolver...and 1 semi-auto handgun...

1. An N frame S&W ( model 27 in a 4" - and I'd prefer Nickel over blued ) in .357 Mag ( shoot both .357 Mag and .39 spl..../ long enough barrel to be effective tactically and beyond.. and short enough to carry...

2. A 1911, full sized, 5" gun in 9mm....personally it would be a Wilson Combat....all stainless.
------------
I've had both for a long time..../ but I'm not ever going to reduce the collection to 2 guns....:D
