Does anyone carry a full size revolver?

If so where on your body do you carry it. I'm thinking of getting a Taurus model 82, mainly because my wife wants to learn how to handle and shoot a gun. The 82 im getting has a 4 inch barrel. I have other guns but every thing i own i can carry. this is my first full size revolver. so if you can suggest a certain type of holster for the type of carry that would be great.

I sort of think this depends on the size of your body and what you're comfortable with. I've known guys who carry inside-the-waistband with 4" revolvers, others think it is kind of uncomfortable.

You'll probably end up like the rest of us, with bag full of holsters that sounded good, but weren't right for extended use. (Hooray for fleaBay.)

This guy carries the most powerful handgun in the world in a vertical shoulder rig discreetly covered by his "best sports jacket"

All kidding aside a full sized handgun can be carried comfortably in a quality shoulder or belt rig with the right cover garment(s).

I carried this S&W Model 586 for a couple of years in this Don Hume holster, a Model 171OT, if I remember correctly:

This is my current rig, a Ruger .44 Special in a Bob Mernickle Holster, a PS-6SA, I think is the model:

Here, on my hip. When necessary, I wear a light leather vest in very hot weather, as now with temps near 100 degrees. Milder weather I wear a sport coat of jacket:

This has become my favorite rig.

That gun needs to be a little lower there Bob so you dont have to cock your arm back to take it out - my 2 cents.

I have carried my 4 inch model 10 IWB.
Have to be willing to dress around it. Tons of people carry a full size steel 1911s, it's thinner of course but weight and length has to be close.

Works fine for me as is. I sweep my arm back to clear my outer garmet, and the front of that holster is cut away.

Drawing a single action is second nature to me and I've practiced enough with this rig that I am comfortably fast with accuracy enough for the situation at hand.

My most likely scenario is a carjacking while at a gas station, and I'm confident I can draw and fire under the circumstances. My hammer is fully cocked as I clear leather, and the hammer drops as the gun comes level.

I cold weather, I carry a 4" S&W N-Frame (either my M28 or 629) in an Askins-style OWB holster. With the right belt, it's not at all uncomfortable, but I limit it to jacket weather in order to accommodate a cover garment.

Well, it depends on the intended use of the handgun.

For social issues, it is high right side butt forward for the 45auto, or hopefully in my newly designed and built left leg ankle holster for a stubby/spurless 38/357.

For other carry, hunting, riding the 4 wheeler, it is left side cross draw, high and carried just in front of the left hip bone.

I do have a shoulder rig for my scoped RUGER Mark II slab side, but it is intended for grouse found on the trailes when on the 4wheeler.

Keep em coming!

I do carry one at times. In fact this is about the only gun I carry with any regularity. Having said that I only carry it when I'm off in the woods with my dogs.

I have a shoulder holster. Clipped to he belt on one side with a strap that comes across the back and then down to the opposite hip, too.

It makes it discreet, although does make wearing some jacket necessary: HOT!! It is noticeably heavy, but not uncomfortable.

I know some don't like them for the sweeping that comes from a draw, but I've worked out a way to draw and cock that doesn't sweep anymore than a strong-side IWB draw.

Need to practice it though as I'm still dog-slow with that.

When I do carry a DA revolver, it's a 4" Ruger GP-100. I carry it strong side on my hip, in a FIST brand IWB holster. Worn under an un-tucked shirt, I can completely conceal the weapon in this manner. Of course, I can do this only because of staying in shape with running and weight lifting. I have a relatively narrow waist, coupled with a broad back. This causes the un-tucked shirt to "curtain" on the sides, giving me perfect concealment. In other words, body type and wardrobe are big factors here.

Considering my size, I consider my 3" GP100 "full-sized." It's my winter gun and hides very well in a Hoffner's IWB. A lot of research went into my pick of a holster and have successfully avoided the box'o'holsters that was mentioned above.

Lucky

Carrying a S&W model 15 4 inch in a pistol pocket IWB holster at about 4:00 position under a loose tee shirt right now. I find it comfortable and out of the way.

Oooooop, goofed, or as an "elected official" would say, "mis-spoke" --------

When I said "high right side butt forward for the 45 auto ----" That should have read, butt tilted forward, but still to the rear.

Oh by the way, in real people's language, what an "elected Official" really means is, they lied but didn't have the guts - NO Honesty involved there - to admit to it.

I on the other hand, :) :D mis-spoke. ;)

I have no problem carrying a S&W Mountain Gun in a strong-side belt holster, underneath either a sport jacket or even a loose polo (or Hawaiian) shirt.

I tried carrying my old 686, but that didn't last very long. I immediately bought a J frame. I carry a J frame almost daily, but going up to any larger frame size I am better off carrying an auto. When I can carry 15+1 in a smaller and lighter package than a large revolver only holding 6 rounds, I would be crazy not to.
