Do you still buy factory ammo?

I buy .22LR, and I buy my SD ammo. Everything else is a home brew these days. Except my BIL brought me 250 rounds of 9 mm last time he came. He always goes shooting with me when he comes down from Illinois, and he felt bad that he had been down a few times without buying any ammo. I didn't mind, but he is a really nice guy and its fun to have a buddy for a BIL.

I bought some .22LR for 8 cents a round last week, and was pleased with the price. Got home and thought about it before I realized what a change that was from what we used to enjoy.

Yes, I buy factory ammunition for my CC handguns. What ever the local police are using is my choice, in an effort to limit liability in case of a SD situation. Mas Ayoob recommended the practice of using factory rounds for CC use as I recall.

But for hunting or target use, rifle or handgun, I use nothing but my own [nobody else's either] handloads. I also cast my own bullets for nearly every caliber of center-fire that I own. Discounting the cost of the equipment purchased over the past 55 years, I'm shooting .44 Magnum for the cost of the primer and powder...in other words, about .05 per shot! Hell, you can't buy .22 lr for that anymore.

Best regards, Rod

As others have noted . . .

As others have noted, I buy for my carry gun and when I need more brass. Like just today I picked up 100 rounds of Winchester 380 for $36 cause I need more 380 brass.

Like most here I don't buy factory ammo with the exception of .22lr and I usually run a single box of 50 factory out of a brand new pistol. If it doesn't break I start loading for it.

Most of my rifles have never seen a factory round.

Heck, I've bought 3 guns just because I had so much brass sitting around in that caliber. Really. I'm really close to buying a .45LC for that very reason right now.....

Just bought 200 for my .204 Ruger due to tough to get and expensive brass. Bought loaded Hornady vmax for .50 a round. I could hardly find decent brass for that price. I did the same with my 308.

Yes...

For 9mm Luger only..
Only reason I do is because I haven't bought the carbide die set for it yet. Still have to lube, then clean... ack...

Once I "pull the trigger" on a set of carbide dies, then it will be strictly handloads..

When I let people other than immediate family shoot, they shoot Factory loads. Less liability, and I can always use more brass
