If I have this worked out right, it costs me <$30 to load 500 rds of .45 acp, if you had to buy bullets I guess it would be more like $80. 100 32/20s using jacketed bullets is apx. $27. When I start using heat treated cast gas checked it will be like $10 per. Plain base at factory speeds, <$5.

Yes I would love to reload but it would negate the lifetime warranty
If you do something goofy and blow your gun up, yes, it might void your warranty.

If you use a system like the press I have pictured and use the powder check system you will be certain that you didn't leave powder out of the case and it also checks to make sure you didn't double charge the case. In other words, with the proper equipment like Dillon you would have to really try to damage your weapon.

If a part breaks that isn't related to an over charge why would the manufacturer deny you service? The few times I've sent pistols in for service the topic of reloading was never brought up.

I think ziggy was joking. I shot a double charge out of my light weight commander once, the unsupported bottom of the case blew out causing a wilson magazine to exit the gun in 4 pieces and a lot of unidentified particles to hit me in the face causing a bit of bleeding. Very exciting, I don't recommend it.

Hehe, sorry Ziggy. :p

My buddy double charged a Colt 1911 some 20 years ago and I saw the whole episode unfold. Like you, it blew the floor plate, spring and follower out of the magazine well. The magazine body remained lodged tightly in place. The wooden grip panels blew off on both sides. He didn't have any lacerations though.

After knocking the magazine body out of the mag well with a screw driver and replacing the grips, the gun continues on shooting to this day.

I reload .22 Hornet, .222-, .223- and .22-250 Rem, 25-20- and .308 Win, .30-06 Spr, 7,62x54R and 9,3x57 Mauser. Also 9mm Luger, .38 Spl and .357 Rem Maximum. I don´t reload .22 LR or 12/70.
I never use surplus ****.

I reload for .45 ACP and 10mm, but it's for range guns only. Out of my carry weapons, I shoot rotated carry ammo for practice. Generally HydraShok.

Reloading is the only way to go

its not that I wouldn't shoot if I didn't reload. I love shooting and reloading allows me to shoot as much as I want. I go thru about 400 .45acp a week at the range as well as 400 9mm, that would be over $300 if bought commercially and only $100 when reloading.

On a side note, I really enjoy the hobby of reloading, to me its very relaxing and rewarding. I also feel that I can produce a far superior product than the mass produced commercial stuff and can also better tailor my loads.

I reload .38, .357 mag, 9mm, .44 mag, 45ACP, mostly for practice, but load some full house mags in .357 and .44.
Also reload 7x57mm (Mauser) and 240 Weatherby magnum for hunting.

Why do I bother to reload 9mm? Reloading (more specifically, Handloading), is as much fun for me as shooting. Plus, no ammo is cheap anymore.

all ammo hand loaded.

Not just my practice, but all my ammo is handloaded and most is cast.
I do use high performance defense ammo for carry.

I hear people talking about reloading their ammo and I'd like to know what percentage of you guys reload your practice ammo versus always buying it new or already-loaded.

The vast majority of what I shoot (aside from the obvious .22LR), is handloaded. I'm even casting my own bullets now.

The expense is too high, and I'm saving factory loaded ammo for future need.

I've got a buddy that's a long time reloader helping me get setup for reloading this winter. I'll still keep buying my SD ammo for my CCW. :)

I reload for everything but my shotguns. I will shoot factory ammo for the rifles and pistols if its given to me, but otherwise its all handloads.

I picked other.
I load almost all my own except what I carry in my 1911.
If I'm carrying something else, it has my handloads in it.

I do both, I reload and buy ammo. It is a lot easier to buy 7.62x39 - 1250rds for $200 than it is to reload it with my set-up. My hunting rounds are handloads. I keep a few boxes of factory ammo for each of my guns.
