Do you really think that 1911's costing a grand or more are worth it ??

I guess on an absolute scale I would have to say yes and no...

No, because I really like the commercial Colt 5" bbled models and the GI 1911A1 built by Colt and the other contractors for the US Govt. They can be had for much less than $1,000.

Yes, because a gunsmith-fitted Colt by a recognized smith is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. My preference is stock without any gas pedal controls, m & m sized mag releases, bertha butt mag wells, or Star Wars grip safeties, but to each his own.

Yes, because a collector grade Colt is worth whatever the market will bear. Sometimes much more than $1,000.

Worth every penny

I do not own a 1911 style weapon worth less then $1200, and I own more then I really need, will I give any up? NO, I will sell something else first, I love to shoot each one and have no regrets. I just shot the Florida Single Stack Classic this past weekend and did not experience one misfeed, jam or failure in 10 COF's with aprox 235 rounds, and I was not surprised, they just run! I have other "high end guns" (We will just leave it at that to reduce flames) that I know would not have done as well, there is nothing wrong with them, but there is a reason why I pay $2000+ for a single gun and I in turn demand my money's worth.

My Glock cost me $550 - was it worth it? Not really. It's not worth $550 for extruded plastic and some steel. It's STILL A GREAT GUN, even though it neede a factory upgrade - read safety recall - and a new extractor and ejector. Other than being a SINGLE SHOT pistol until I got the new parts, it has been reliable ever since.

The Valtro .45 is the best gun I have ever shot. I think that it offers more value than my Glock. It's hand tuned before it's sold. Extractors don't chip, ejectors don't break. Feeds anything I put through it. Feels better in my hand, points better and looks better. It is worth $1200.

The issue here is not combat readiness - though I think that the Valtro wins here also - it's whether a gun is worth $1200 and up.

It is if you get the right one. Marxists would prefer that we all had cheap guns though... ;)

To Bowser

You lucky dog. I have not even been able to find one for sale anywhere.

This is one 1911 I likely will soon own when I can find one for sale. Problem is the rest of the world is running for the gun store faster than I can run. When guns are quality they sprout legs and leave the gun store very quickly. And if they don't people are ripping the doors off to get in to buy them.

I don't suppose you would want to sell it for $100 over what you paid for it. Naaw , no Valtro owner would ever do that. Maybe walk over broken glass in their bare feet or over hot coals but never would they sell their Valtro. W.R.

don't shoot, you misunderstand sandcrab. He wasn't imitating Asian Americans. He was actually imitating the Neimodians, the Trade Federation bad guys from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. They, on the other hand, were stereotyping Asian Americans. ;) At worst, he's guilty of second hand stereotyping, a much lesser offense.

As for old adages, "man who stand on toilet, high on pot." And "Mr. Baseball wrong. Man with four balls can't walk."

Mr. Shawn Dodson: I respectfully disagree. I would rather have the gun I shoot the best, regardless of the cost, to hand over to the police. No matter what I paid for it, if it's what I shoot the best, and it saved my life, it's money well spent. Just better make sure I have two of them....:D

Mr. Denfoote: If you have never seen a 1911 that functioned perfectly out of the box, you are invited to come over to my house. I have five of them. My three Glocks have jammed; my 1911s haven't. YMMV. And no, I DON"T LIMP WRIST

--Whatever you shoot the best is what you need to carry. Only your life depends on it.

Wild Romanian,

try Bullseye Shooting at 415 453 7465. They got 60 units in last week, with 50 already accounted for.

I know for a fact that there is one available right now, in stock in the display cabinet. The price is $1199 +tax, DROS etc.

Good luck - you won't be disappointed!!
