Old pic below, but the only FDE pistol I own is a two-tone CZ82 - the combo being an OD Green slide over an FDE frame. We were going for a "multi-cam" effect.

It was more of an esthetic experiment than anything else since there was nothing to lose: the aging Commie paint was chipping off in various places. We also re-painted the grips black to clean them up.

FWIW, I've gotten a lot of compliments while plinking with it and that's more or less what it is - a colorful range toy. But it's got a sweet trigger and really shoots great.

I guess I must be older than I thought, because I don't have any idea what the acronym FDE stands for. My searches bring up terms such as "Flight Dynamics Engineer," and I don't think the question relates to either aeronautical or electronics engineering.

I guess it must stand for something, though, since other members have responded to the question.

Aguila, it stands for Flat Dark Earth, which is a fancy name brand for tan. Just like my wife insists that her favorite set of dinner napkins are "pumpkin" rather than orange.

I don't have anything in FDE. Purely as a matter of personal taste, I don't care for the color, but if other people like it, no problem. I see people wear shirts and ties and sport coats that I wouldn't wear, but if they like it, it is none of my business what they wear.

The only practical consideration is that I prefer black on a carry pistol, not only over FDE, but over stainless or anything else, because I carry IWB strong side with a cover garment. My unproven hunch is that when my sport coat flaps open for a fraction of a second, the pistol is black in dark shadows, and gives an observer less of a reason to think about what they saw. In other words, if someone sees something shiny in that little dark hole that opened momentarily, it might catch their eye and make them wonder what it is, more than seeing just a bit of darker black in the shade.

Maybe this is off base - I haven't tested it in any serious way - and it certainly doesn't apply to pistols that aren't carried. Heck, one of my favorite pistols is a Beretta 92FS in Inox. It breaks my rule, but it isn't a carry pistol. Buy what you like.

Well, FDE is more like an "off-tan," in the same way the color Buff is an "off-white."

Reminds me of my mother's car - she says the exterior is "antelope," and the interior is "sand" with "walnut" trim.
Translation: tan exterior, tan interior and tan trim.

I picked up a new Glock 26 a couple months ago. Got a real good price from Cabela's of all places, and kind of spur of the moment took it home. It has the flat dark earth frame and black slide...

We must have hit the same sale at Cabela's, 38Mike!

I got a FDE G26 there around February. Most of my guns are blue/black but I thought the Glock looked less clunky in FDE. Not a big deal but side by side with the black G26/27s, I liked it and the price was the same.

I put Magpul FDE furniture on my AR a year ago and must say I prefer it. My wife says it tones down the "evil" look! I'd better get a bayonet, fast! :D

Stil, I love blue/black and walnut.
