It's a poser badge, plain and simple... unless you brought it back

It is unfortunate that we label people posers just because of the gun they buy. What if someone just prefers tan to black? Choosing a color doesn't make someone a poser. It is a person's attitude, not equipment that make him or her a poser. Can we agree that not everyone is going to fall into two narrow categories?

I'll second that but I do roll my eyes at thigh holsters and shoot me first vests.
It was mentioned earlier but I have an irrational hate for ODG if its for you, good for you but it just puts me off a gun instantly,

Sorry, YOU might like it tan and I can accept your opinion and I'd still shoot with you, but I don't like it and I think it makes you look like a poser. I hope that term isn't any more loaded or offensive than mall ninja. I saw a guy with a full window glock logo on the rear window of his station wagon, passenger side. It was super tacky and again made him look like a total mall ninja poser. Like I said you might be totally fine and legit but it's not a good look and that's just how I feel and why.

Full disclosure though, I live in the northwest so FDE is different here than say Arizona.

I would argue it has to do with WHY someone buys the FDE. If I buy it because I want to look super tacticool and it is what all the real "operators" have, call me a poser - I deserve it. If you don't know why I chose it, though, keep an open mind. Your assumptions may be right, but they may also be wrong.

Big Mikey, you need a Calico...just like the ones in Spaceballs

Or you could just use the schwartz :D In all seriousness is that model of the spaceballs gun an actual working firearm? If so I would love one since I have been a fan of that movie since I was a kid.

Its actually way easier to cosplay Spaceballs Troopers than Stormtroopers...hehehe

I picture it looking something like this.. Sorry I couldn't help myself, love this scene though where they find their stunt doubles instead of them.

By the logic some use in this thread...

Having an aim point or eotech... A free float handgaurd... Heck even just an AR or SCAR or Tavor... Can make one a poser. "because it's just like what the operators use".

Some people do mall ninja it up... Only getting what they think the high speed low drag guys use... Which is usually actually just KISS based... But they conflate the movies with reality and buy a ton of crap. And yes, that is rather silly behavior and reason to do anything.

But...

Some just think that all black is or can be boring, and like to have a little contrast to the black.

Not all of my firearms have color to them, but when they do, I prefer subdued darker colors... Like ODG and the darker versions of FDE... It can play off the black without shouting "look at me".

Do I like the all black look?

Yes it looks good too, but you own a dozen all black pistols, and it's a little boring.

Firearms should be black, blued, stainless, shiny (chrome or nickel)

I personally highly dislike "shiny" pistols. I don't mind a matte or brushed look... But shiny is out.

I hate chrome on cars, even if it's just trim, and think gold plating is tacky... Which is what I feel about shiny pistols... Tacky.

I will give a pass on special presentation one offs, or those with a lot of scroll work and etching... As those are made more for artistic reasons.

It's standard working grade firearms that I don't want polished up.

Everyone has their preference.

I like it. It's different, all black gets boring. I just got a full fde gen 4 Glock 22 and love the look so far. The poser thing is ridiculous, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's my first fde anything (except for a scope I bought once because it was on sale) and I got it just because I liked the look and wanted something different. It's certainly not going to "stand out" in NM or TX where I might have it, but I could care less anyway. Most people don't see my guns ever and if they do it's at the range.

I am interested in the "poser" comment. for one, I haven't even heard the word "poser" since high school, so that was kinda cool(that's what we called killed who wore stussy etc and didt skateboard), but i am interested in what having FDE makes me a "poser" for? it's not a military color I don't think, and it's not tan like others are saying. I don't own anything FDE, but I have a tan stock on a nagant, I do like FDE, but probably wouldn't do it on a pistol
olive drab, foliage, FDE, black,

desert TAN!!

I like guns in FDE, but no more than I like black guns. As for the poseur thing, there is a bit of a difference comparing guns to something like clothing and the music/skateboard culture. Unless you live in a place with open carry, you are probably not advertising the fact that your gun is infact not black... and even with open carry I doubt that will be a topic of conversation. But wearing a Pennywise shirt does not mean you care about punk rock, like DC shoes are not a clear indication of you ever having stepped on a skateboard. Those clothing choices people make willingly place them in a particular category, and after a few minutes you can usually tell if they belong there.

Also, in my 10+ years in the military, I have only seen one handgun model that was not black (Colt 1911 MARSOC). All the Sigs, Berettas, Mossbergs, HK45's, MP5's, 240's, M16's, .50's and the majority of M4's have been black. But I will concede that personal bias is a very valid reason to hold FDE against the masses. No sarcasm there, I'm sure we all do that with other issues for various reasons (fully decked out "skaters" who can barely stand on a skateboard, then break their arm causing a medical emergency).

Personally I wouldn't buy any guns in FDE.

I like bi-tone, but I'm more than likely going to just go with black.

I wouldn't mind it really. Lots of odd comments where people seem to get judgemental about it. Its not my money, rock on with your bad self. Judging people based on gun color is something the anti-gunners do. My issue is that the tones of that color can vary a lot by manufacturer and some of them are just unpleasant to me.

I take it you didn't grow up in the era of classic cars with chrome bumpers.

Some classics get a pass...

It's more a modern car thing... With superfluous bits everywhere... Grills, wheels, Windows...

I feel like I was overly sharp or offensive in the tone of my posting. I did not intend to personally attack any FDE owners on this forum. Another poster mentioned how he has an Eotech and other "poser" or "tacticool" upgrades. I actually don't see any problem with such upgrades actually, and so I've spent a few moments trying to put my finger on why an Eotech or Foregrip are different in my mind...

I think it comes down to cosmetic vs. functional. However, the gentleman who posted his FDE rifle in the closet also had a white/frosted AR15 platform in there, and that didn't bother me at all. I think my problem is what I feel FDE projects, rather than simply it's cosmetic vanity. Tribal colors are absurd, comical, or delightful. The frosted or two tone has its own modern sensibilities, stainless is classic. Other colors in general symbolize a decorative aesthetic. FDE seems aggressive, mall ninja, and posery-ey I guess. FDE harkons to a guy who wishes call of duty was real. That's my distinction between FDE and other colors. Again I truly mean no personal disrespect I just mean to say this would be my preconceived notion. I hope these opinions are what the OP wanted.

Basically you feel the color has been tainted by the mall ninjas.

I can see how it could be...

To me it's a subdued and practical color, compared to other colors you see on some firearms. (pink, cyan, etc) I actually prefer the darker near brown versions, but I like ODG more, and for the same reasons.

To me it's less flashy than what some people do, while adding interest to the looks over plain black.

I only have one FDE pistol, a Sig 226 scorpion, the grips being the mottled green color help break up the FDE monotony. My M&P has the back strap replaced with a FDE version, the rest is the standard black.

I prefer to accent the pistol rather than draw attention to that one aspect. The all FDE glocks and m&p pistols are examples of the use of FDE that I do not like.

I picked up a new Glock 26 a couple months ago. Got a real good price from Cabela's of all places, and kind of spur of the moment took it home. It has the flat dark earth frame and black slide, which wasn't important to me at the time. It'd been almost 6 years since my last G26, when I got this one in my hand, you know, lights started blinking and bells started ringing, had to have it; so, back to the dark side; flat DARK earth side........

Tried my hand at attaching a pic, shown with its little brother......

Yeah, lots of guys at work laugh at my chromed craftsman wrenches. Working grade and shiny certainly have no place together.

I don't have any FDE firearms, but I did have a two tone OD P22. I loved the look. I would seriously consider buying another black/OD pistol if price was roughly equivalent.

I also have a drop thigh holster. It is an unbelievably comfortable way to carry a gun, especially when involved in any sort of even light physical activity. If you don't own one you are missing out.
