Do you have all your guns in a safe

most all are locked up and a few are hidden all over the house

no, i dont own a safe. when u own a safe , every one knows what is in their.
lets put it this way, wherever i am, in the house, in the shop, in the field, i have 2 second access or less to a gun .
ps- i might not sleep with my wife every night, but i always sleep with my handgun...:D

YES! all of my firearms are in a safe. Are yours not in a safe?

Just one good gun is worth the price of a decent gun safe. And the safety of having one, is woth the good nights sleep.

Well at any given time I have about 2-3 guns in the house and they are always in the safe. I worked in an ER and have worked on ambulances most of my adult life so I know how tragic it is when a child gets a gun, I have two children at home and I will not leave my guns out or available for them to find. My wife has already said she does not think she has what it takes to shoot a person, this only makes a gun a liability in a house so they might as well stay locked up so no one can use them. As for my personal carry if it is not on me it is in the safe.

Safe is a must in NY

Don't know why I live here in NY but after a wait of 6 to 7 months for your handgun permit you are told that when you apply for an amendment to your permit to add a fifth gun you will have a home inspection by officials for proper storage of your handguns. IE a gun safe and separate locked box for ammo.

And all those regulations have done what for your public safety?

The kiddo is instructed not to touch guns when I'm not present. They're kept out of his access in locked cases except for the HD guns. If he wants to see a gun, he just needs to ask and he knows that I'll go get it and hand it to him. He's 7. He has no reason to sneak around.

The only concern I have is with his friends. I keep them secured for that reason, not for our safety.

I agree with 1911 Jim. I keep mine in a safe to avoid going to jail should my son, my girlfriend's kids or a neighbor kid should get a hold of one and hurt or kill someone. The law here in Colorado is clear. I have heard it said, but a quick search did not turn up the law, that if you have kids under 16 in the house that you must have your guns secured.

You need to be aware of the laws, and then determine how to best adapt to them.

Here's the MN law about child access:

609.666 NEGLIGENT STORAGE OF FIREARMS.
Subdivision 1.Definitions.For purposes of this section, the following words have the meanings given.

(a) "Firearm" means a device designed to be used as a weapon, from which is expelled a projectile by the force of any explosion or force of combustion.

(b) "Child" means a person under the age of 18 years.

(c) "Loaded" means the firearm has ammunition in the chamber or magazine, if the magazine is in the firearm, unless the firearm is incapable of being fired by a child who is likely to gain access to the firearm.

Subd. 2.Access to firearms.A person is guilty of a gross misdemeanor who negligently stores or leaves a loaded firearm in a location where the person knows, or reasonably should know, that a child is likely to gain access, unless reasonable action is taken to secure the firearm against access by the child.

Subd. 3.Limitations.Subdivision 2 does not apply to a child's access to firearms that was obtained as a result of an unlawful entry.

So as long as your kids can't rack the slide, the gun can be in plain sight so long as the chamber remains empty.

I'm in control of my carry gun at all times (cocked and locked), so that covers me there, but we do leave the HD gun with the chamber empty for compliance with this regulation (it's also stored out of reach and sight). As kiddo gets older, I'll be going to a biometric lock which only has the wife and my prints stored.

We have two safes; a big safe that we used to store all the guns in. Then there were some disturbing incidences around here, so we got a small, fast access safe for storing one of the handguns in.

HI,
Unless a gun is on me or right next to me (and I always keep one handy) it's in a safe.
Here it's a legal requirement and IMO it's common sense.
Brgds,
Danny

Everywhere I go in the house a gun is with me on my side. I also keep two in spots around the house and the rest in a safe. It's important to note I don't have children at home.
