Just curious...I guess since I shoot Sigs the best and have had the least amount of problems with them,I guess I dont mind spending the extra money...Same with the HK's.Dont get me wrong cause if i were to ever carry,I probably would pick a Glock :)

I personally think they are over engineered which makes them overpriced. KISS principle comes to mind...

Not if you sell yours all the time :D

Anyways, I don't have a problem getting rid of a piece (I've sold an HK & a Glock) if it does not really "do it" for me. I use the money on customizing what I intend to keep or flat-out getting a new one to replace it. To me, if a gun suits your needs and you "personalize" it, then its worth buying and certainly worth keeping (I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a few custom 1911s that are well over the $2000 range, but hey you get what you pay for. After all, if you had the money, wouldn't you rather have a Mercedez over a Hyundai?)

Guns are one of those things in life where you ge what you pay for. I admit that Sigs and Hk's are very pricey and wish they were a bit cheaper but I would not restrict myself of something that good with a $100-$200 difference. I don't know, maybe to someone else, that's alot. It's defintiely worth my peace of mind. And I always want the best, never the "in" thing or hype that everyone else has. If I shorten myself to another...cheaper brand, I will only regret it and not be content till I end up buying that Sig or Hk.

I attended a bulls eye match in Germany about a year ago. In centerfire there were H&Ks, SIGs, Sig Sauers, Revolvers, and a few customized 1911s.
No, not one Glock.
But in a hostile environment and for self-defense, they'd maybe choose differently.

Choose the best gun for your purpose and do not look at the money. You will save a lot like this.

Yes and no. How's that for decisive?

Let me ramble here for a second; I've owned (and sold) Sigs (4) and an HK (1); all were a pleasure to shoot, generally ergonomic, and were VERY well made. Fine weapons if they're your choice. Still, I prefer Glocks for their hard core functionality and practical indestructability. All three are accurate pistols but I find that I shoot Glocks better under stress. Some may say that Sigs and HKs are better looking and, that may be true if you're also into weapons as art. No one will ever accuse Glocks of being good looking.

I guess the real question is, is the additional money you spend on a Sig or HK going to buy you a corresponding increase in functional reliability, and is it worth the expense? Honestly, probably not.

But, I would say that you should buy a Sig, or a HK, if you like them, if you shoot well with them, if they inspire confidence in you, and if you feel they are the best tool you can find to defend your life.

No. Not by a longshot.

But then, I'm won't spend over $500 for any handgun, and thats a stretch.

And the P7: $1000+ for a blowback factory pistol? Thats just ridiculous. Laughable really, except for the fact people are actually BUYING them at that price!

I do. The more I shoot, the fewer guns I like. Sigs work great right out of the box. I'd be pissed too if I paid $700 or $800 for a gun that didn't work, but the six Sigs I've bought over the years have all been great, from the lowly P230 to a P226 in .357 Sig. Glock probably does the defensive job just as well, but I'm willing to pay more for a gun I like (and I do not like Glocks). If you can afford it, and you prefer it over other models, course Sigs and HKs are worth it.

Vyper,

Trying to find a replacement for your Walther? ;)

I personally like SIGs, don't care much for HK's.

I agree with your first statement "Guns are one of those things in life where you get what you pay for" however you don't have to buy the highest priced model to get the job done for the intended purpose.. There are inexpensive "Top Name" models out there that are just as accurate, reliable, and can do the job just as well for as little less $$$. Sigs and HK's may be worth their asking price but an extra $100-$200 is a lot for us average Joe's. However, I have been known to drop a grand or so on a custom built 1911  but that was a want not a necessity. :)

I've had bad experiences with Sig, so I'd say they aren't worth the money.
HK's on the other hand...I've had nothing but superb performance from my rifles to handguns. I've even had a couple of great deals along the way.

I think it depends. On weapons I am buying for my daughter to use when she grows up, then yes, I will pour as much money as it takes to get the very best which means Sig sport models and H&K p7's.

For guns for me just to blast with, glocks and EAA's are fine. If my g20 or my Witness tanks for some reason, I will just get another and not worry about it. It's not like it costs that much. Heck, I have more money tied up in glock 20 hi-cap magazines then in the gun by a long shot.

But, if one of my P7's or my 229sport broke, straight back to the manufacturer, without even a second thought.

Logically, the higher the price the better gun. "Better" means better:

1. Reliability
2. Accuracy
3. Finish and durability
4. Ergonomics and trigger pull
5. Ease of maintanance.

Say, let's use relative comparison:

CZ-75 can be bought for under $350. Is it:

1.Reliable -Yes, say 1 jam in 10,000 (example)
2.Accurate - Yes, say 2" at 25 yards
and so on...

Now take other brands and compare. In order for HK to be worth
$600, it should have everything better at least 80%. Is HK really
80% more accurate, reliable, has 80% better looking finish and
lighter trigger pull? No emotions/feelings here, just plain numbers. Numbers show HK is not worth $600. Now check Sig and others...

SIGs are wonderful guns. I've had several (and still have a SIG P-210-6, but am in the process of selling it.)

I agree with ORIS -- from a harsh, clinical perspective, they simply aren't worth it. I'm a big CZ fan, and thats where I'd put my money. I've had a CZ-75B and now have a CZ-85 Combat, and they've performed for me far better than my SIG P-220 or P-239.

But I know that there's more involved than sheer practicality.

Is a BMW *that* much better than a heated up Chevy with a police package? Maybe not, but we often pay for the emotional experiece of owning something.

I know a lot of guys that wouldn't consider a CZ when a SIG is available for a couple of hundred more. And they'll happily spend the extra. That's their choice, and they'll get satisfaction from the SIG that a CZ wouldn't give them.

Glocks have the same sort of appeal -- but they appeal to a different mix of emotions.

It's not just hard facts. (Its like the stock market: its fundamentally emotions, beliefs, and hopes....and only a little bit of harsh praticality.)

I can't speak to H&Ks: I've only shot one USP. Seemed like a nice enough gun, but had a "more plasticky" feel than a Glock.
It was functional and accurate.

Here's the way they stack-up price wise,
in my area:

1. H&K USP's (most expensive)
2. Sig's & Para-Ordance's
3. Walther's & Browning's
4. Glock's & Smith N' Wesson's
5. Ruger's
6. CZ's (least expensive)

* Colt's not listed cuz they are not widely
available to the general public, anymore. And
on an individual basis, some models with a few
different feature's; may run more than the
standard model of another brand.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, Life Member N.R.A.

PS: To answer your question, I'll spend my
hard earned cash on Sig's nine times, out
of ten!!!:D No, I don't think they are over
priced.:)

Spending a 1000 on a handgun may be laughable to some but when I picked up my first P7 and fired it, I knew I wanted one. Acutally, I only spent 750 for a used one. I could have spent less but for something I will own over a lifetime and trust my life too, a few hundred bucks doesn't seem that important to me... I now carry a super reliable, compact, safe weapon that outshoots just about everything out of the box........

I guess even the Timex club snickers at the Rolex guys....

I agree with most of what has been said here.

If you shoot the Sigs or HKs best, then they are worth the money.

BUT  the HK P7 is the sweetest 9mm ever made. If you ever get the chance to shoot one, do it.

Again, I've seen guys that could barely hit the paper at 20 feet drill some nice groups with a P7. The only semi-auto I paid more than $750 for used other than a well tuned 1911 or a SW Performance Center revolver.

Don't mess with the P7! It expensive but then again its a tank that can drill 1 inch groups at 25 yards and HK used to ship test targets with the gun to prove it.

This is worth the money . . .
