Even if open carry were legal here in Florida I wouldn't do it. I took the time to get my CCW for a reason. IMHO there are just too many "positives" to carrying concealed and too many "negatives" to open carry.

I'm in Kentucky. Open carry is legal but in the local Mall but you will be harassed by the local PD.

In my opinion out of sight is out of mind.

I open carry no where, it makes you a target and draws unnecessary attention .Until I need my weapon it will stay out of sight.......... LOUD

I voted undecided, more because of the mall part than the OC part. If I find myself at the mall its for a specific reason, and I want to get whatever stuff I need and go. From what I've heard about people OC'ing in the malls around here, it's pretty inconsistent if security will even notice/be notified and ask you to leave.

You list Colorado as an OC friendly state for the most part. If I am on my way to hunt & I stop for gas I would maybe be ok with it in the town where I am known. At the mall? That is a good way to end up in a conversation with local LE. I much prefer to carry concealed. Too many benefits to list & most are already listed in this post. I keep all my options with concealed.

Open Carry in California

hi, I just saw a similar map in the wall street journal
and pointed it out to my cop buddies,
yes Cal is open carry in rural areas.
We do a desert shoot out yearly: 35 guys and lots of guns.
I wouldn't want to be only 30 miles from the border with a load of guns and non loaded on me

I would if it were legal. In states like Alabama an 18 year old can open carry legally far before getting his or her permit. I'm hoping Florida adopts a similar stance. If they do, I guess I'm getting comfortable with it because that'll be my only option.

I would be uncomfortable with it in certain areas or if it were crowded, but in a suburban/small town area that I live in I think I would get used to it. If I had to go to a bigger city like Jacksonville I doubt I would be as comfortable with it.

I'm in Texas, with no open carry option ... but I wouldn't do it anyhow ...why draw attention to yourself, especially the wrong kind? My gun is concealed so only I know I'm armed ... the element of surprise can't be overlooked ... if you want to open carry, go to it ... for me, it seems like a mistake ...

I wouldn't open carry anywhere except the most remote trails.
I simply dont wan't anyone to know I'm carrying, friend or foe.

I am not a fan of open carry personaly for two reasons...1) I see no reason to draw undue attention to yourself by open carrying from both the un-informed public and well intended LEO's, and 2) open carrying takes away the tactical advantage of concealment.

I worked as a Security Supervisor in a mall in CT for the last five years (just resigned a few weeks ago) so here was my take on it:

I wouldn't. In CT it is legal, but most of the malls are PRIVATE PROPERTY, opened to the public, but Private nonetheless. (ALOT of people don't realize this and always tried the "This is public property!" argument with me. They lost.)

The mall's code of conduct specifically stated no firearms. That meant if I saw an open-carry, I had to instruct them to leave the property. If they refused, they were trespassing and there was police involvement. (Please note that the police involvement was for trespassing, not the firearm).

Now, this TECHNICALLY meant that if I saw a firearm AT ALL, even if it was just printing while concealed, I was supposed to make them leave. As a general rule I didn't, and only advised them of the policy and that they were printing. Concealed is concealed...and hell, I saw enough things happen at that mall (Serious assaults and the like) that I do NOT go there without my firearm. Concealed, but always on me when I'm not in uniform.
