I would call Arkansas "Questionably Open Carry" at this point. Our law is in flux, with the OC crowd claiming that OC is legal, our AG claiming that it is not, someone claiming that OC is only legal as part of an OC demonstration but not for individuals, and the rest of us waiting to see who's going to be the test case . .

Agree. The AG's opining threw in a big monkey wrench. If he is overcome, you become the 5th state with Constitutional Carry.(In Wyoming only Wyoming residents can carry concealed.)

I wish open carry was legal in Texas. We're still suffering from the carpet baggers, can't get away no matter what.

I have no interest in open carry for myself. I don't have any problem with others doing it, though.

I will say I sometimes have a brief moment of wanting to open carry a SA in .45 Colt.

And in South Carolina, also. The dregs of Reconstruction linger on. At least Florida regained OC, only to lose it in 1987 with the coming of CC and Janet Reno as the AG.

She did a lot of damage during her tenure in Florida and as US AG.. But, we have to look to the future and fight to regain the right.

Nothing cooler than that! ;)

im a cop and don't open carry off duty. I prefer to not stand out from the crowd as a target for the next Nairobi attackers.

I care for you,Jerry,we have been online together, forever, and I'll pray for you open carrying on duty, every working shift. :)

I only open carry when I hunt or when I'm literally out in the frontier.

Urban areas full of people are the last place I'd want to be seen with a gun.

I don't generally open carry, unless I'm out in the woods or out in the woods hunting. I would rather everyone think I was unarmed until I'm forced to prove otherwise.

I rarely go to a mall but do not open carry when I do. I wouldn't feel comfortable open carrying anywhere other than the range. In fact, I have never seen anyone (other than cops/security) open carrying anywhere other than gun shops and ranges.

I agree with some of you, I would only open carry if I was at the range or in the woods hunting. I absolutely would not want to draw unneeded attention to myself in the general public. I figure in the event someone decides to go on a shooting spree and you were open carrying, you might as well have a bullseye painted on your chest

I wouldn't OC in a mall, concealed is much better so you have the surprise on your side and I think that brings some advantage.
The only places I OC is at home or on the gun range.

I selected 'undecided'. I've done both and prefer CCW, but even then, I've had shirts ride up and I don't know how long they did it.

Most malls I've seen have signage against guns, flat out.

Yes, but in some places like Georgia they do not carry the weight of law and you can still carry if you choose. They can ask you to leave if they see you with a gun which then becomes a potential issue of trespassing, but not a firearms issue. Again, this is one prime reason not to open carry in the mall at least in Georgia.

Most malls are private property. Therefore, they can generally implement whatever rules they like, including prohibiting carry even by people with carry licenses.

What I have noticed about open carry from the FEW times I have is:

1) That most people pay little to no attention
2) Of the ones that do don't freak out, two people ask me if I was LE.
3) Had one Conceal Carry Guy asked me if I was showing off. When I explained that this was actually an accidental OC where I forgot to pull my shirt back over my firearm, his demeanor stayed the same, mean mugging me. I went back to CC and ignored him. Happened a week + ago, first time.

The mall I would not OC in on purpose, but I would given the right situation.

Open carry; the practical elements....

My state has limited open carry(see my previous post).
As a "customer of size"(a US airline term for bigger :D), Id rather tote a loaded pistol OC(open carry) for comfort but there are a few - factors too;
A) As noted, you might become a target quickly in a spree/active shooter or armed robbery event.
B) Store employees, customers(patrons), security guards, or other bystanders might pester you or become irate if you are carrying.
It's not my job to play outhouse lawyer or spokesperson for 2A issues. A firearm in some urban areas will be out-of-place. Now if OC is common where you live or shop & it's a upper middle class/upscale area you might have no real problems. In my metro area, Im 99% sure Id have conflicts or problems the minute I went outside.
C) Carrying a gun or gear means it will get banged up, nicked, scuffed, knocked around. Working in several open carry/uniformed positions I can tell you, you don't want a "safe queen" as a open carry gun.
Years ago, when I was a federal employee, a 083 police officer I worked with remarked; "Y'know you can always find out where cops work because there are knicks/scuffs midway up both sides of the door-frames." :D
D) In a critical incident or problem, a employee or co-worker may single you out or run to you to handle it. I want to handle lethal force events on my terms not the bad guys. Open carry may limit your responses or actions.
Now an argument could be made that citizen OC can deter crime or violent behavior but it may also draw the "street crazy people" or unstable people your way. Again, this is conditional on where you go or where you shop/live.

I know it's not true with almost all who carry open but the public preception is you are looking for trouble. Looking for trouble = guilty of something
As alluded to earlier in this thread, that is because people don't see it. Non-shooters are only exposed to firearms through the media. The media sensationalizes everything on the "news," and movies don't offer a great depiction either. If people saw someone OC once a week without any trouble they would soon lose their apprehension.

I prefer to not stand out from the crowd as a target for the next Nairobi attackers.
I don't play golf anymore, but it isn't because holding a 3 foot long piece of metal increases my chances of getting hit by lightning.

All the malls around me are posted. I haven't carried daily in some time b/c I am not shooting enough that I feel comfortable carrying. If I was carrying daily and the mall wasn't posted I wouldn't have any problem OC or at least in a supertuck with half the grip out. That is how I carried last.

No matter what anyone says I'm not buying that OC in a drop thigh holster is not the most comfortable way to carry unless one sits in a single position without moving all day.

i'd like to add that most OC folks ive seen do not "look" like they could fend off a serious gun grab by a Vin Diesel look-a-like.

not saying looks tell all, but if one practices gun retention one usually does other things to stay somewhat in shape.

I am for open carry of pistols, cops do it all the time on duty and nobody gets worried because the gun is holsters. however, if the cops stand around on the corners with ARs slung at the ready and so forth some people wet their pants while others gripe about a "police state". some of these same people do the same thing they criticize the cops of doing. in fact, looking at you youtube videos, you see far more private citizens walking/standing on the street with a rifle or shotgun than you see police (unless there is some sort of emergency).
