Of course, this is under the assumption that your state allows OC legally without ,or in some cases, with a license. At this point that is 45 states.

Please keep your responses relevant to the question at hand. The map is courtesy of Open Carry. Org.

I'm not allowed to IC, so take my opinion for what it is worth.

It's not so much that I wouldn't feel comfortable open carrying in the mall, it is more that I would just be much more comfortable concealed. The less attention that I draw to myself the better and more secure that I feel.

There's only two places I'll ever feel comfortable open carrying...
On a shooting range or out in the sticks, whether out having fun or doing outdoor work.

Open carrying anywhere else is never going to be my choice. I don't see the point nor advantage of displaying a firearm if I can just as easily (or very nearly as easily) conceal it.

I absolutely appreciate the efforts of those that put focus on a fundamental right to bear arms and I also appreciate open carry laws that allow a choice. Much like cycle riders that choose to go without a lid where they are allowed, I much prefer my full fishtank but we get along famously & I don't concern myself with their choice in riding gear.

In Georgia we can carry either open or concealed with a GA Weapons License. I generally carry concealed and can’t say I would ever see a need to open carry at the mall. I might also add the places I visit tend to be in a more in-town environment where a firearm is likely to alarm people something I prefer not to do.

Can I get a JD!....

Im no legal beagle, could you define the terms in the lower right of the carry map of the USA.
Im not sure what the state terms mean re: types of carry.

FWIW; Florida's pro-gun/2A Gov; Rick Scott signed new gun laws that allow W/concealed license holders to "open carry" for brief periods or not be prosecuted for a crime if the firearm is exposed due to wind, movement(bending, leaning, reaching up) or changing a garment(vest, jacket, coat, etc). You can't fully open carry or strut down a Florida street looking like a Navy SEAL or a SWAT cop but you won't get busted if a waitress sees your pistol grip as you put your jacket on or a security guard sees your holster when you walk into a dept store.

At the range or in the woods is all open carry for me. If I did not have a choice to drop my 380 in my pocket I would go without.
I know it's not true with almost all who carry open but the public preception is you are looking for trouble. Looking for trouble = guilty of something

Oh, crap - you said "Open" carry. I said yes, but change my answer to "NO" - sorry, probably threw your poll off.

Yes,Clyde. Go to
www.opencarry.org
and they will define the terms between gold star, green etc.

For example,in OC Carry.Org speak, Arizona is: Summary: Arizona is one of our “Gold Star” open carry states. There is complete state preemption of all firearms laws, open carry is common and law enforcement is well educated as to its legality.

the public perception is you are looking for trouble.

This is not a universal thing. For instance it is not true at all in much of Arizona where it is not uncommon to see people going about their daily tasks with a side arm strapped on. Now I want to be clear, I am not saying that there are pistol packers at every turn. I am saying that you do see them occasionally and I have never seen a fuss made over it yet whether in a restaurant, bank, the city park, or any other establishment that has not explicitly posted a sign saying they don't want people carrying in their establishment such as Buffalo Wild Wings has.

I am not sure what constitutes a gold bar state. NM does not allow OC into a place where alcohol is sold. If you buy gasoline at a 7-11 and beer is sold inside you cannot go inside OC even to pay your gasoline bill. Other places like WalMart sell alcohol and the same restrictions apply. CC is permitted in such places.

I can OC here in AZ as has been mentioned but prefer not to. I can also carry concealed without a permit. I did choose to get the permit though as there are some restrictons on those who carry with a permit. As far as going into places that serve alcohol, the term is serve. A 7-11 selling beer is not serving alcohol for consumption on the premises so unless you plan on drinking it in the store, which BTW is illegal no problem. One of my favorite eating places has a bar and you can have drinks with your meal. If I'm carrying, I cannot drink alcohol legally so I don't. No big deal.
My preference for keeping my firearm hidden is just common courtesy. Why upset those who are on the fence about firearms and let's not freak out those who are part of the Brady bunch. If a bad guy should show up, why warn him that I'm a threat to his well being. God forbid that I should have to shoot someone but that does not mean I won't if push comes to shove. The only places I do not carry are those who have posted signs. I patronize them as little as possible.

I prefer to CCW if possible, but would open carry before not carrying. After being a victim of having a firearm pulled on me, I never want to be that victim again.

Map is wrong. Oregon is an "open carry State", but local law supersedes State law on the matter. Almost all of the Portland metro area forbids OC without possession of a CHL. I do have my CHL, but am pointing out that OR isn't especially "OC friendly".

...and when I go to a mall, it's usually Clackamas Town Center. OC in the scene of a mass shooting event = freaked out locals.

Open Carry.Org updated the map last week, moving Arkansas from red to gold and upgrading Mississippi. Perhaps there are still a few flaws. It's difficult with changing laws. They try.

But the basic question, if legal, remains true.:)

I would call Arkansas "Questionably Open Carry" at this point. Our law is in flux, with the OC crowd claiming that OC is legal, our AG claiming that it is not, someone claiming that OC is only legal as part of an OC demonstration but not for individuals, and the rest of us waiting to see who's going to be the test case . . .
