Do you Carry Loaded?

Carrying is when the gun you have on your person is fully loaded;
if there is no round chambered then you are transporting, not carrying.:D

I carry an sp101 so it's always loaded. When I have my SR40 on me I have one in the chamber with the safety on. Does anyone carry with the safety off? Is the trigger safety sufficient?

I don't talk to people as described by the OP. If I have to I run them off with a "I'm having a private conservation here. - go away" I do.

The other thread on this topic said it best.

"A gun without a round in the chamber is brick"

I was trying to think of something clever here. Oh well.
My response would have been no reponse and a none of your business look.

I've recently learned the term Barney carry for those not keeping one in the pipe, after Barney Fife who used to carry his cartridge in his front pocket. Thought it was a fitting term. :)

I leave my home defense gun unchambered. This is because its a Glock and I have a 7 year old. When I carry, I keep a round in the chamber, but I prefer double action only, or at least double action guns for carry.

Acceptable Replies:

"Are you one of those know-it-alls who asks inane questions to remove all doubt that you don't know what you're talking about?"

"Do you make a habit of asking questions that fully display your ignorance?"

Of course I don't carry one in the chamber... How can I intimidate a BG into crapping his pants if he doesn't hear me "rack" the slide?.........:D:D:D:D:D

"Well I'll be damned, I guess there are stupid questions".

That's not what I'd say. I'd be thinking it though.

Basically it depends. How you carry is up to you. Considering that for the vast majority carrying a gun is more of a fashion statement than a necessity, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

As a former Sheriff in the mid 70's my department issued Colt 45ACP MK-IV as a duty weapon with Commanders issued to detectives. These were carried cocked and locked with thumb break safety strap over the hammer. Dept. regulations mandated no modifications to safety except oversize safety if preferred. Empty chamber might get you killed.

Chambered

I have been locked and loaded for about 5 years now and I do carry with one in the tube. I carry one of two Bersa Thunder 380 cal. This is a double action automatic. I carry it with hammer down and all safety's on fire mode. If a person has a concern with carrying one in the tube that person should carry a double action revolver or a double action automatic and he will find it more comfortable with one in the tube. JMHO

Posts: 612 First question I would ask myself is how does this guy know I carry?

The second question I would ask myself is what is the purpose of his question?

Third question (which supports the second question) is what motivated this person to the point they felt the need to ask me this question?
I got to agree that should cross a persons mind in that situation.

And for a awnser to the OP if its on my person its in the chamber or no in point having it for defence.

To OP: Yes, I do, but I think you should do what you're comfortable with. Your life, your call.

Only guns really unsafe with round under the hammer were the old single actions, but even they were ready to fire as soon as the hammer was cocked :-)

As far as readiness goes, it's a clear choice--chambered is quicker & simpler, but also more inherently "dangerous." Anyone worried about their own unfamiliarity with their gun needs a lot more training, but perhaps some simply feel better knowing that it would be harder for someone else to use their gun if they got their hands on it. . . .
