Sitting Ducks at a Turkey Shoot

Cremon,

That is what it would be here. With 2000+ employees crammed in here it would be hard to miss. You could almost close your eyes and have at it. There is a silver lining though, I know where all the exits are wherever I am at in the building.

Nothing makes people feel safer than a public statement from a company on the morning after one of those 6 o'clock news tragedies.

"Milksop Hollowhead Industries extends its deepest sympathies to the boatload of people who had family killed in yesterday's goat%$^&."

As if THAT absolves them of the responsibility to protect their employees - extending sympaties after the fact. Most offices have strict access controls where you have to have a magnetic badge to get anywhere past security - our company is like that.

It just means that such a crime would have to be committed by a current employee. But current policues in most companies are designed to appease the sheeple and not the rest of us.

Absolutely I don't carry at work. I thought about it for a while, but then I lost my carry guns, ammo, and holsters in a tragic boating accident on the way to the office.

Oddly, my employer's policy is specifically vague. It says that weapons are not allowed, but that exceptions may apply per applicable state law, whatever that means.

Yes, but Im a contractor who owns my own business.
So I usually leave my pistol locked in the truck when Im inside, but most of the time its on me.
I often carry a truck gun as well behind the seat, usually a AR..

True, but those badges are easy to lose (or have stolen) and continue to provide access until the employee reports it lost. That can be quite a while if he thinks it's in the other car or lost under the couch and is willing to pick up a temporary daily at the front desk until he finds it.

I'm glad I work in an office with a door, although the pre-fab walls are so thin there would be no real protection against someone standing outside and blasting a mag or two through the wall. Fortunately I don't think I have any real enemies here...

I would carry at work but there is a policy that forbids it since i am a supervisor i feel i should set a standard and conform to the rules im suposed to enforce. Plus i work in a area where laws prohibit concealed carry so i not only stand to loose my job but also get in a legal nightmare as well.

I have in the past while working, driving a tractor-trailer delivering to grocery stores. On two occasions in areas where riots were a hit miss on my route, and on other occasions depending on the territory. Its against company policy but if i need a firearm then I'm willing to take the chance and fight through the union to get my job back.I've been told after getting paid large sums in stores that that's a lot of money to be carrying in this neighborhood, and my reply is that the ARMY didn't train me to be a victim. They usually size me up,at 6-1 and 230,and the fact that I'm wearing a jacket and sweating ,and leave it at that.In 28 years on the job I've never been robbed.

I carry it, and all employees are encouraged to do so.

Then again, my buddy and I own the company, and only have one employee. :)

Lots of money in the register at times though, and lots of robberies in the area lately...

Though it is 100% against the company policy that I had to sign, yes I carry depending on what I'm doing, but I always at minimal have it in my company provided vehicle which is also against the rules. A few years ago it wasn't even an issue for me, but while our production stopped at a particular area, the offices in that location still exist. It's a maintance shop in a rather rough part of town. We've been broken into in this location approx 10 times in the last 16 months, with a drive-by next door, and a delivery carrier dragged out of his truck and beaten on one occasion. Since production stopped here, often times there is one or two people here at a time at most, unless it's first thing Monday morning when all the crews are here. The 3rd generation owner also works out of this shop, as does my boss and one other individual (elec engineer) and each of us carries. I've talked it over with the owner and he simply said (I understand, I can't approve, but I sure as hell can't blame you so I didn't hear anything). The neighborhood is bad enough that none of us are comfortable being there after dark and we won't go to the back side of the property alone in the daytime. Several of our office windows have had rounds put through them at some point or another. All that being said, when I'm alone in the office or shop, my cc is on my hip. If I get called out to another plant (I'm an automation control tech) then my gun stays in my truck as I can't risk someone other than these 3 people seeing it. Long story, simple point. I carry at work because me coming home from work each night is more important than this or any job will ever be.

We are grudgingly allowed to carry concealed due to state law. However, we can't display or show a gun in any way. I carry into the office and then generally place in a secured drawer while I'm in the office.

i too work at a state run higher education institution.

the professors would flip a kitty if they found out anyone had a weapon in their vehicles.

i regularly catch crap for my pocket knife

One thing I am grateful for at the University I attend is that the some of my professors are HARDCORE gun fanatics. One shoots his M99 Barrett almost every week, and has been guiding me in my purchase of an AR15. Another one is soon to purchase a holster from me, and we talk 1911's like there is no tomorrow.

I once had a student claim that my knife was a "deadly weapon". A professor then immediately said that so were keys, pens, pencils, and even books. They are all tools until one "weaponizes" them.

I am a full time student at the moment and Idaho does allow ccw at the university but the university does not allow it, so I don't. Plus I am going to become a teacher so I would not be allowed to carry their either.

Besides schools really are one of the safest places one can be. If you think about all the children and others who are at a school on a daily basis and how many people are actually hurt, Statistically it is a very safe place to be.

Yes I know shootings have happened at schools, but how many shootings have there been since we have had public schools?

The only problem is that it only takes one wolf to kill an entire herd of sheep.

Edit: I did not intend for my post to make it seem like myself, or my professors carry on campus. We do not.

I'm self employed and work in customer's houses a lot, 2-3 a day. Unless I have some super micro pistol, there's no way I could comfortably/effectively conceal something. The last thing I need is one of my customers finding the butt of a pistol sticking out my waistband.

It stays in the truck.

Seeing as i own my own business i set my own rules. Myself and any of my employees are allowed to carry as many firearms as they like. Be aware my employees are nice, caring, law abiding and responsible citizens of the country of the United States of America.

LEO here. Always carry concealed - backup on duty- concealed carry off duty. you never know. My guys always joke that if they ever need ammo or another gun they can just go to my car. They jokingly call me things like Tackleberry or Rambo but they know if it ever hits the fan they can count on me. They know I have been in several deadly force situations and had to fire my duty weapon once so they know I am good to go. I carry an entry carbine and 2 shotguns in my car. 1 bean bag and the other is my personal 14 inch remington. Some of the old timers complain about their vests much less carry a backup. They are also the ones who never get their 50 rounds a month of upkeep ammo and go to our range. I am lucky to have a shift that enjoys going to the range and having fun, eventhough they gripe about me spanking them on the dueling tree. My shift never has to go through requalifications or remedial training. Except one of my new guys, he cannot shoot a shotgun to save his life. We will work on it and get him checked out on it.
Some of my guys not on SWAT even carry their own level 3 tac vests if they could afford them.
