Since I started riding 40 years ago, I've always worn a Schrade folder in a leather sheath, and I've three different knifes. I still have the first one but it's been retired from active duty. Recently, I purchased a Kershaw "O-so-sweet" assisted opening folder. When I'm wearing jeans, I still carry the Schradeb but the Kershaw is always with me. Either one has just enough "get off of me" to get the job done.

My concealed handgun license does not allow me to carry a knife. Lame, I know. If I could legally carry a good knife I wouldn't bother with a gun.

Before I could legally carry a gun I might have often carried a knife.

It's illegal to carry a pocket knife in Dayton, Oh.?

They are no more for defense than my car keys are. I do carry a gun all the time

I'm with Bill on that point. My knife is for opening things, peeling fruit, cutting stuff...I never think of it as a defense tool.

Carried a knife all my life, greatest tool devised by man.For 32 years in the Post Office I carried a Western 542,now that I am retired I carry a Gerber mini para as a $ clip and a Buck mantis.

I have carried a pocket knife for about 47 years now, ever since I joined Cub Scouts. I am sure that hundereds of people are happy about that because I have supplied them with hundereds of knives that I lost. I currently carry a Cold Steel El Lobo and a Buck multi-tool for EDC. The El Lobo is a record holder because I have carried it for about six years now without loosing it. It is also the cleanest knife I have ever owned due to the number of times it has gone through the wash still clipped to my jeans.

What really amazes me is how Sheeple react to a pocket knife now days. When I was growing up every adult male I new carried a pocket knife. Pull one out now to cut something and people react like you pulled out a Samuri sword!

I stated this thirty some years ago and I'm sticking to it.I'd find it difficult to shoot open a package.Everyone needs a pocket knife.tom.

+1

I've carried one every day since the 2nd grade.

Girl at the credit union 'bout had a heart atteck when I got it out to open an envelope a couple weeks ago.

Good thing she couldn't see what I had in the other pocket. :D

When in the woods, I always had my Buck 110 on my belt. At work, I use to carry a small gentleman's knife in my pocket. Now that I am an old fart and have arthritis flare ups, I have found I prefer a Benchmade Mini-Ambush plain blade clipped to my pants pocket. Never leave home without it.

carry an S&W folder in my right pocket and a Leatherman Blast multitool on my belt. The Leatherman is just so handy, it's like having a mini toolbox at your disposal, but it takes too long to get the blade out if it were ever needed as last ditch SD, hence the folder.

Thats me...But I have so many knives I'm never without. They are in every vehicle and every nook and cranny of the house.

Like many others I do carry a knife, but it's for opening boxes and other cutting-tool jobs unrelated to self-defense.

Knives for life!

I have always carried a knife with me in public. It doesn't matter if it's dinner at Ruby Tuesday's, a wedding, or going to the bar with my girl (Well... maybe I wouldn't carry my gun to a wedding). I carry my Springfield XD .45 ACP with 13 round capacity magazines and my Carson designed CRKT M21-14SFG and find them to be a perfect combination. For those of you who don't know, the M21 is a folding, double locking, fast opening, good size, combat knife with SERIOUS serrations made by Columbia River Knife & Tool. As knives go, it's the best $60.00 you'll ever spend.

Like many people who have posted here, I do regularly clean my nails, open boxes, envelopes, etc. with my knife. Having a knife on my person is definitely convenient as it is a useful tool, however; consider this: A knife is your last line of defense. It doesn't require ammunition or training and it will never jam. In the scenario that may not ever happen but could, where you're saying to yourself "Damn it! I should've brought my other mag!" while the bad guys are gaining the tactical advantage over you, you will be VERY glad that you have something as concealable, as deadly and as psychologically intimidating, as a knife with you. This train of thought pertains more to you fellow law enforcement types out there as you are more often in harm's way than the average joe. For the lay person, this applies because you are more likely to be assaulted or robbed by someone with a knife than a cop. If right now you're debating whether or not there's any validity to my opinion, just remember what your parents, grandparents or maybe a teacher, taught you growing up:

"It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

Also remember that if you don't think you need a knife to defend yourself with (because you're a bad ass... Aren't we all?? ;)), that the life you save could be someone else you care about. For the guy in the earlier post who says if he's wearing pants, he's carrying a knife, BRAVO!! Again, a knife is your last line of defense.

*IF* I have a knife with me, it's a pocket knife and more of a tool than a weapon. Any knife I might have won't be worth anything in a fight but I like having a pocket knife with other tool attachments so my answer was "No" because the context of the question led me to believe the OP was asking about a weapon class of knife. The only "weapon" I carry is my gun.

Unfortunately, I live in Michigan, where it is illegal to carry any concealed knives for self-defense. Kind of irritating, huh?

Out of old habit, I always have some sort of knife, light, firestarter, keys and wallet on me, along with whatever I am carrying for the day. It's kind of like putting socks on before your shoes.

Lol...in fact, I fill my pockets before I out my shoes on.

No Rambo gear...very small tools that I use all the time.
