plan to drink with your buddies? Or do you still have one on your body if you drink at home? I make it a point not to have one whenever I'm drinking at home even just one gulp.

NEVER!!
Any action that requires a person's full concentration and/or judgement should never be associated with alcohol, or for that matter any intoxicant(including certain prescription drugs).
First of all it would be illegal, and second
would you fly a plane after drinking?
Also us Gun 'Nuts' dont need that kinda publicity right now.
Why should an insane person, a child or a criminal not be allowed access to a firearm?
Because, all three cannot, or will not exercise proper judgement or responsibility.
Regards,
Anand.

Here in North Carolina, concealed carry is prohibited in any places that serve alcohol. And if you're carrying concealed, you're not allowed to have any alcohol in your bloodstream.

In some states, merely carrying into establishments that serve alcohol (even with a valid CCL) is prohibited. Arizona is one, I'm sure there are others. Thus, I'd recommend checking your local laws.

Pennsylvania, my home state, does not have any such law. Whether you decide to carry while drinking is up to you.

Not legal advice or a legal opinion. HTH,

Texas is a bit more lax than the others in this regard, I suppose, because here you only can't be legally intoxicated (defined here as 0.8% BAC) while carrying. Guns can be taken into places that serve alcohol, unless they derive 51% or more of their income from it. Thus, when the guys from work go out for a beer after work, since they usually go to a restaurant that is not a 51% place I don't disarm. However, when going out with a group that I think I can't get away with just one drink, or that I expect to move to a real bar later, I disarm beforehand.

From what I remember of my TX CHL course the term is just intoxicated, not legally intoxicated. My instructor made the point that to dat there is no legal definition of drunk for carry purposes. Unless there has been a change to the law recently the .08 BAC thing applies to driving and nothing else.

Guns and Booze dont mix PERIOD. If I'm carrying which is most of the time I dont drink. I rarely go to bars, but for the most part that is not a result of CHL. If my friends cant put up with my not drinking while out at a restaurant then its their tough luck. If I'm at home and decide to have a beer with dinner the gun goes to the night stand and I dint handle it unless absolutely necessary ie home invasion.... If for some strange reason I feel like getting sloshed at home the gun is made inoperable. Has yet to happen since I formly believe that my right to responsible self defense is more important than a possible hang over.

Greetings To All, Here in Alabama your CCW
permit is null and void; if you are caught
under the influence. Footnote: This also
applies if you frequent a place of business
where intoxicant's are sold. Good law, as
someone else stated guns and booz don't mix.

Yes. Yes. If your not too drunk to drive (.08BAC almost everywhere now), then carrying a firearm should be just fine and dandy. The Mad Mother fascists can flame me now.

Actually, I can't remember the last time I went out drinking. I suspect most of us that carry don't like the feeling of losing control that being drunk causes...

Yeah Geez nothing better than a bunch of drunk guys setting around at a bar with there guns. C'mon give me a break! Just don't do it. Leave it in your car under the seat or something if you dont leave it at home.

NEVER carry a gun while consuming alcohol = reciepe for disaster... If you don't feel right not carrying, don't drink.

Hear, hear Gino!
I gave up drinking ETOH a couple of years ago, and I have not looked back.
In my line of business, I see a lot of intoxicated people, and I never want to look like that again.

vega; When I was single and living in california I'd go bar hoppin' on fri and sat nights. I never kept a gun in my vehicle when I thought I would be drinking. If I got stopped it would certainly compound the issue if he found a gun! If you're going to drink and drive (and alot of us do it) don't bring the gun, even if you have a ccw. Good Luck, j.s.

I have a question on this...if any of you are in Colorado that is... The CCW paperwork sayd that I can't go into a place who's pimary purpose is to serve alcohol. Does that mean that I can't go to a "Lone Star" or similar restaurant?

Never, as I don't drink if I get behind the wheel either. First of all, I think is irresponsible to do so if you're armed, and second, here in Texas, is the law, so I would not risk getting prosecuted for "doubiously" shooting a scumbag (even if it was a good shooting) just because a liberal DA finds the equivalent of one beer in my bloodstream, thus, putting me away for twenty or thirty years.

6forsure, are you saying if you personaly think you are not over the legal limit it is alright? I have stopped many drunk drivers that tested .20+ and were convinced they were "alright to drive".
Unless you have your own personal breathalyzer/alcoanalyzer leave the gun and the car keys at home.

I still maintain that if you can legally drive, then you can legally carry. Or at least should be able to. And that a man's home is his castle.
