I've been dating my current girl for about 4 1/2 years. For the first year or two, she didn't really seem to get it, and occasionally seemed uncomfortable. She's a smart woman though (working on her Ph.D. as I work on my J.D.) and she soon realized that guns and gun advocacy were an inextricable element of my character.
She has expressed zero interest in shooting, and I have tried to show her, but eventually I decided that if she is willing to accept me as I am, it behooves me to do the same and respect her lack of interest.
I will say, though, that one or two times things have been a little sketchy and she has been happy for my gun then.
These days, it's a non issue. It's who I am, and who she knows and loves.
As for family, well, we've been soldiers and cops for generations. Pro-gunners all.
As for friends, I only closely associate with those who respect my views. If they don't, they're not my friend.

...just because YOU think you need a gun to step outside your house doesn't mean someone is crazy for thinking otherwise. in fact, to most people, you're the crazy one.
Most people used to think illness and health were regulated by various types of bile. A popular opinion is not the same as a justified one. I have respect for your view and your right to differ with mine up until that statement.
