Do people you know hate when you carry?

Aside from my wife, nobody else knows. As it should be
i like this answer as well. but i have had a couple of decent conversations with a guy who wanted to know why i thought it was necessary. an old friend i felt comfortable with sharing this information. when he asked why. i guess it's like have car insurance, i'm not worried about my driving. it's the other people that worry me. and you never know.

Oh boy, here we go.

First of all, I don't carry - yet. What strikes me about the responses here, and has already been pointed out, is how similar the reaction to carrying is to the discovery by "reasonable, well-intentioned people" that you're not a liberal.

The astonishment displayed by liberals at the realization that anybody might not agree with them, followed almost without exception by anger and personal attacks, follows the examples cited here almost down the line.

Amazing, and discouraging. I agree that the only possible solution is to just cross those people off; the degree of their commitment to their own private world is almost impossible to realize.

I don't carry, and don't care about those who do. I'd rather have them around when something goes down than not, but just because YOU think you need a gun to step outside your house doesn't mean someone is crazy for thinking otherwise. in fact, to most people, you're the crazy one.

I've gone my whole life without ever needing a gun on me and i'm still here...crazy, huh?

Lol seriously? It's a waste to even type... five more words to you.

B.N. Real.....Trust me man, I know........I know. -___-

Crazy Fingers! A personal friend here in Miami. lol Yeah, that would ONLY work among close friends.

Agree 100% with the whole "gun ban" <-------Those words combined has our fore fathers rolling in their graves!

No one else should know unless you open carry, in which case you're making a conscious decision to risk entering into frequent debate with others.

Also, why would you put your gun in the glove box when you're driving, only to take it out when you leave the car? Why not just have it on your person all the time, then your girlfriend would be none the wiser, as the fact that you were arming yourself to go into her house wouldn't be so "in her face." State law maybe?

Yes officer, I have a permit a....

A. Printed

B. They brought it up first.

Thank you :D

No one knows if I am carrying a pistol except me, or my wife if I'm with her. She carries more often than I do, and has had her permit for much longer than I have.

I don't have any acquaintances that I am aware of who would make a big deal out of it if they knew (or cared).

You don't have to inform the officer you're carrying in Florida. If they specifically ask, yes, but you don't have to volunteer that info. Sounds like you have some testy police in Miami if they go around asking everyone if they have weapons. If they really over-reacted like that you could file a formal complaint.

I love the Miami police..I would never file a complaint. I was in the academy for Miami Dade, but suffered an injury in 2009 and underwent surgery and still haven't fully recovered.

Yes! They ask everyone. Drugs, weapons etc.

They're looking out for themselves. Can some cross the line? Most likely, not with me. Not yet.

I've had a couple instances where people have been shocked to find out i carry a firearm.

One instance there was a little bbq at my house and everyone was sitting out having drinks an me being me was tinkering on my buddies truck 5 feet away....well i was bent over under hood an my 1911 was sticking out past my shirt an my friend sees it, she says OMG what is that!!!...I say honey thats my 45...she says why the hell do you have one in your pants....I said arent you happier an safer to know that a trusted friend has one in his pants incase someone you dont know shows up with one in his? She just said Oh good point.

Another instance someone was extolling to me how evil guns are and how they kill people everyday...not knowing i'm a gun owner....I said dang i didnt realize they were so evil, now i wonder why my gun hasnt jumped out of my holster by itself with no help and killed the whole lot of us....i got a weird blank look for that and then i said Evil is a human principal and cannot be applied to objects but only to living thinking creatures!

"if I go somewhere I may need it I just won't go there"

Once upon a time that was a valid argument, as every town had its' bad section and decent people stayed out of that area. Sadly that has changed and the bad guys have come to us.

As for your anti gun friend (?) I don't argue with them. Even if I believe they are wrong they do have the right to be wrong.

discovery by "reasonable, well-intentioned people" that you're not a liberal.

What does being a liberal have to with the right to self defense? I'm a fairly liberal in much of my thinking and actions, yet owning, shooting, and carrying, a weapon is just part of who I am. Perhaps if we stopped trying to define ourselves in such narrow terms we could stop the petty spats and use our energy to get something accomplished.

I've been dating my current girl for about 4 1/2 years. For the first year or two, she didn't really seem to get it, and occasionally seemed uncomfortable. She's a smart woman though (working on her Ph.D. as I work on my J.D.) and she soon realized that guns and gun advocacy were an inextricable element of my character.

She has expressed zero interest in shooting, and I have tried to show her, but eventually I decided that if she is willing to accept me as I am, it behooves me to do the same and respect her lack of interest.

I will say, though, that one or two times things have been a little sketchy and she has been happy for my gun then.

These days, it's a non issue. It's who I am, and who she knows and loves.

As for family, well, we've been soldiers and cops for generations. Pro-gunners all.

As for friends, I only closely associate with those who respect my views. If they don't, they're not my friend.

Most people used to think illness and health were regulated by various types of bile. A popular opinion is not the same as a justified one. I have respect for your view and your right to differ with mine up until that statement.

I noticed you had to censor that. It's unfortunate that the concept of professionalism has been lost to a lot of Miami police. My grandfather is a retired Miami policeman and can't stand it sometimes.

it was 1976

I can still hear my mother: "Do you HAVE to wear that thing to church? On Christmas?"

My first wife used to get a bit upset with my regular wear until after she got raped leaving work from the Sears Tower one night; then she got it.

WESHOOT2, that is a hell of an experience to have to learn from. I'm sorry that it took that for her to get it, but at least she is alive. Many women haven't been so lucky. A terrible thing, rape. Maybe the worst thing.

It's better to be the only one who knows.
The ONLY time I let anyone know is when they can be 100% trusted to act responsibly if the firearm is needed for SD. But if someone is in our group I don't really know too well, it remains a secret.

Well, I for one, cannot stand people who freak out at the mere mention of a gun.

This convenience store got robbed not too far from my house, and this old lady who works there, who's known me for a few years, told me about how "something was off with that guy" and how she "could definitely tell he was a gun guy." This gave me a sort of bitter smirk.

I also can't stand big mouths. I showed one of my closest friends my pistol, and apparently he let the word slip out to his wife, who's got a big mouth. Now their entire church group knows I carry!
