I was surfing the web this evening and a disturbing person sent me a message on ICQ. Out of nowhere, she started telling me that guns are stupid and should be banned. I asked her why she felt that way, as I won't be obnoxious and stoop to such a person's level. She said it is because her brother was killed by a gun. I looked at her profile and she is a 19 year old in Berwyn, IL. Seeing that she is already in a communist state, I told her that if she feels that strongly that she needs to move to a different country as we have a bill of rights that preserves my right to bear arms. Before I told her this, however, I went to the trouble of trying to explain to her the need for our firearms to preserve our freedoms. People like that won't even listen to the truth. It disturbs me that someone like this is probably a registered voter and will probably be a member of MMM some day. It gave me an idea for something we should do though. Why not make an amusement park named "gunless land" where commies like that can come in and be in a "gun free" park. Park staff can dictate to them and force them to do anything. People that abuse the place can rob them and leave them beaten and pennyless. I wonder if they would still feel the same about a "gunless" society?

You should have just said "I'm sorry for your loss, it's been good talking to you," and left it at that.

There is no way you could have an impact on this person.

A valiant effort, but unfortunatly when it comes down to a contest between flesh & blood lost and freedoms, you're never going to meet in the middle ground.

Mike, maybe not. But look at Miss Demeanors here at TFL.

She saw someone close to hey blow their brains out and is not an active hard-core pro-gunner.

It's always worth a try.

Til Ya got to the part about the dead sibling i was gonna say that your experience was further proof that they shouldn't let Sarah brady onto the computer; who knows, maybe it was still her trolling.

PreserveFreedom,
I think you took it as far as you could, any more would be like trying to teach a pig to sing.
Thanks for trying to reason with her. :)

My response to her would have been something like ... "I had a dream that all guns in our society were banned. In my dream, I saw you awoken from a restful sleep by the sound of somebody trying to break into your home. When you reached to dial '911' you discovered that the phone was dead because the line was cut. Since there were no guns in our society, I was curious how you were going to defend yourself against a disturbed intruder who was twice your size and was holding a knife from your own kitchen as a weapon. But I awoke from my dream before I could find out the answer to my question. Fortunately, it was only a dream because while guns take innocent life, in the hands of law-abidding citizens they they SAVE more lives than are taken. While you have the freedom to own a gun or not own a gun as you so choose, you do not have the right to remove an effective means of self defense from somebody else. I'm sorry about the loss of your brother."

Ummm, excuse me folks, but did you ever notice that almost every anti tells you that they lost a brother, sister, aunt, uncle, child, etc. etc. to a gun? Care to wager that many (not all, but many) are bald faced liars?

I thought I remember reading a letter from the MMM, where they actually told their members, that when writing a letter to a newspaper, or when debating a Gun Rights Activist, to claim that they had lost a loved one to gun violence, as a way to validate they're viewpoint. As soon as they claim this, we shut up, and they win.

Maybe we should use their tactics. All gun rights activists should write letters stating how a gun SAVED the life of a loved one. Wouldn't work though. We pride ourselves in truth and honesty. They believe that lies and deceit are justifiable means of promoting their cause.

Just something to think about the next time an Anti tells you this line.

FOUND IT! The following was posted by DZ back in March. This is a form letter that the MMM where to use when writing to their local news papers. Notice the bold paragraph.

Dear Editor,

I am a senior at Greenwood High School in Greenwood Indiana. Yesterday in my Civics Class we were discussing the growing problem of guns in schools. It shocks me to see that a seven-year old can get actually get hold of a gun and bring it to school.

We were talking about solutions to this growing problem and someone in my class suggested enacting Federal laws for stricter enforcement of gun regulations. These laws would make it very difficult, if not impossible for children to have guns. Kids may not understand the dangers of firearms, but Congress definitely should.

Five years ago my brother was killed in a gun-related accident. Every time I hear about accidents like the one in Flint, I think that if someone had taken a stand five years ago—none of these tragedies would be happening.

So I have chosen to take a stand. My family and I are helping to organize a Million Mom March rally in Greenwood. We hope that this event, and the hundreds of others around the country, will send a strong message to Congress that it is time to pass sensible gun laws.

No one else should have to lose a brother or sister to understand.

Sincerely,
XXX XXX
Senior, Greenwood High School

"She said it is because her brother was killed by a gun."

Must have been one of those "new" electronic guns because the gun didn't kill her brother, the criminal behind the gun killed her brother.

IMHO, emotion is a BAD human trait. Emotions lead to more crime and stupidity then anything else. "crimes of passion", getting into fights, saying really, really stupid things, etc.. are because of emotions. The guberment uses or plays on people's emotions and not their intellect to get bills passed or to end our Rights. People now days do not use their brains or intellect to run their lives; they only use emotions. Just like my job.. I know I can do better (get a better job), I'm not a stupid person, but all I can get right now is a janitor job. I dislike it and my emotions say, "Screw this, I can make more off welfare" but my intellect tells me that I need a job (for money to live and toys), that taking welfare is stealing from my fellow Americans (in my eyes), and that working is an honorable thing.

Could someone post the link to that thread? If there's really evidence that they've used that tactic as an example that people should follow even if they have to lie to do it, then we should be pushing it hard. I could probably get it onto a local radio morning show tomorrow morning. Thanks.

Well, this moronic thing sent me another ICQ message. I am too stubborn to put her on ignore mode. This time I told her that she is the most uneducated, ignorant person that I have ever had contact with. If anyone wishes to attack this obstacle, her ICQ # is {deleted by Dennis, per request}. Let me know what happens! :D

Preserve Freedom, "... her ICQ # is ...."

FUD,
Well now! There ya go, FUD! Do yore duty, son! :D :D

I find this whole issue somewhat humerous. The MMM idiots want to ban all guns. Yet, if they find themselves suddenly attacked or in the middle of a robbery, who are they going to look to for protection? Answer: The CCW holder who happens to be there, of course.

I also notice they have no problem enjoying the liberty guns helped to create in this country.

Do yore duty, son! :D :D[/quote]Okay, just because I work in the computer field and have been doing this since 1984 doesn't mean that I know everything. What's an "ICQ #" and what am I suppose to do with it?

It's obviously some way of making contact but beats me how I'm suppose to use it

icq (I seek you) is an instant messager program that runs while you are on line. It is a free service that you can enroll in at: http://www.icq.com

You can get instant messages and hold multi-party chats. If who you want to send a message to is off line, you still can send the message, not like some of the other instant messagers out there.

Don,
Here's the link to the original thread http://www.thefiringline.com:8080/forums/showthread.php?threadid=29247 The post I'm referring to is the 4th one down. DZ and others had infiltrated the Colorado MMM chapter, and where posting copies of E-Mails that where being sent out to the members. Unless someone has the original E-Mails still on their hard drive, it will be difficult to prove.

If in fact this person has had a close relative die and reacted this way any response is wasting thier time. Maybe (God forbid) they will have a life-threatening situation present itself and they will change thier mind. My sister is this way, lives in a high crime area in Fla. cops won't respond to emergencies yet because my brothers son was killed as a child refuses to look at things logically. I spent many wasted hours reasoning with her and came close to banning her e-mails. Now I just send subtle things like an mpg of my last IDPA competition!!!! Subtle like a brick!
